Eh I don't know how I feel about the Twilight Princess/Windwaker graphics.
I love them both, but together? I'm not sure.

But I am looking forward to this. I wonder if it'll follow any other Zelda games (Windwaker - Phantom Hourglass - Spirit Tracks, etc)

I kinda like how the game looks like at the moment. I'm also curious as to which timeline this game will be set on in the Zelda Universe. Looks like it will be in the same universe as Twilight Princess since I'm not seeing vast amounts of water.

It takes place before Ocarina of Time. Link lives in the skyloft with the oocoos, finds the sentient skyward sword, it takes him to a world below the clouds, which is filled with evil. That girl in the concept art we've all seen? that's the form the sword takes when it's giving you advice.

Wow. That's something they've never done before. And judging by what you've said I'm guessing Twilight Princess took place b4 OOT?

EDIT: Also looks like they're adding a whip. Also looks like there is a hookshot in the shape of a turtleshell?

Twilight Princess takes place after OoT, in the Child Link timeline.

Sounds interesting. I always thought that the girl was related to the sword in some way since her clothing gave her the appearance of a sword kinda. I assume Ganon won't be the main villain since he doesn't appear until OoT or will he? I don't know.

This

Ocarina of Time is basically where the whole Zelda universe starts and after that it gets complicated.

.: General Information :.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is an action-adventure game currently in development by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development, and the sixteenth installment in the Legend of Zelda series. Scheduled for 2011, it is planned to be released for the Wii console and will heavily utilize the Wii MotionPlus peripheral for sword-fighting, with a revised Wii Remote pointing system used for targeting. The director is Eiji Aonuma and the producer is Shigeru Miyamoto.

.: Development :.

In April 2008, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the Zelda team to be "forming again to work on new games", and later clarified at E3 2008 that the development team has been working on a new Zelda title for the Wii. However, the November issue of Official Nintendo Magazine pointed out that the developers were still in the planning stages at that time, and considered a first screening at E3 2009 an optimistic prediction.

While the implementation of the plot and graphics was not advanced enough to present actual footage at the show, a single piece of concept art was revealed to a select group of journalists. Released to the public a few days later, the picture showed a near-adult Link with a shield in his left hand, a mysterious female figure standing at his back. During an interview, Shigeru Miyamoto gave a hint on the story by pointing out that Link doesn't hold a sword in the illustration, which raised speculation about the mysterious female actually being a personification of the Master Sword.

He also announced employ of the Wii MotionPlus for integral parts of the gameplay, such as sword-fighting. Eiji Aonuma, who will not assume directorial duties, later confirmed the peripheral to be mandatory for the title and described aforementioned swordplay as feeling very natural, as if Link's sword and the player's controller became one. In addition to the new and more accessible controls, the game system will change the traditional flow found in previous Zelda installments and was developed first, in favor of building the game around cutscenes. Miyamoto stated that they are preparing "gorgeous" graphics for the title, which will focus on conveying the atmosphere of a real adventure again, and will try to correct the flaws of Twilight Princess while maintaining and improving on the realism it portrayed

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed plans to release the game by the end of 2010, and mentioned that it would debut at E3 2010. At the event, it was announced that the subtitle was Skyward Sword, and that the game would be delayed until 2011.

June 15, 2010 (E3) - E3 2010: Playing With Link's Skyward Sword - Wii Preview at IGN

Rising out of the stage, like King Arthur's mythical sword in the stone, Zelda Skyward Sword units arose from the front of the stage immediately after the Nintendo E3 2010 Press Conference and we were first in line. We're very relieved to report that the Motion Plus controls work sensationally accurately with Link's Sword. The in-game sword followed our arm's movements precisely as we waved it about. Better yet, directional slashes are recorded accurately on enemies and scenery. For example, running up to a giant mushroom and slashing at it left a range of cut marks in precisely the same path our sword passed through it.

We also fought a couple of giant, armoured flowers with jaws that snapped open and shut. The only way you can kill them is by slashing the sword so that it cuts through the open mouth, rather than bouncing harmlessly off the armoured jaws. To mix things up the mouths open either vertically or horizontally, and you must match your sword swing accordingly.

We were only allowed to play very briefly with Zelda Skyward Sword so Link's sword was the only weapon we got to try out but keep an eye on IGN for in-depth gameplay impressions very soon. Although the game is in very early shape we came away really impressed with the precision of the new swordplay. Having a crazily accurate sword is the sort of thing the Wii was built for and we couldn't be more excited to play more. Rest assured Zelda's gameplay absolutely cuts Red Steel 2's swordplay to pieces!

Please note that nothing in this section is confirmed.

Leaked information (from ZeldaInformer):

- Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
- Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
- There will be a playable demo at E3.
- Time travel does occur and it happens through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
- Link's hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
- There will be several "Majora's Mask" esque sidequests.
- Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
- The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
- The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
- Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it's unique style.
- The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
- There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
- There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
- The game will feature significant portions of flight.

"So everyone by now has heard so many rumors about Zelda Wii that it makes us sick to our stomach just imagining the possibilities of truth. As always, the first and second batch really fit well together, but there is no way to really prove the truthfulness of them until E3. Same goes for this new batch, which just came fresh off the email press... oh a good 30 minutes ago. We do have an in-house translator working some angles to get the truth, but as of right now we have no official word on the "validity" of the source. The big thing with these rumors is some of them directly conflict with previous rumors, while at the same time still seeming highly plausible.

- Zelda Wii's official title is "The Legend of Zelda". There will be no subtitle.

- The game tells a story several hundred years before Ocarina of Time.It also answers the question of how the Mastersword came into being.

- The fairy-like girl plays is a very important character in the game. Her Name is Zordiana.

- The Hookshot is also in the game and it has new abilities. It will not pull you immediately to the target you aimed. Now it is possible to swing with the Hookshot, like with the Grappling Hook from WW. The Hookshot makes no use of Wii Motion Plus.

- Sometimes you have to "draw" a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.

- The Bow-Control is very similar to the Bow-Control in Wii Sports Resort, as the script shows.

- There are two levels of difficulty. Aonuma put it through. Miyamoto didn't want to include it.The Normal-Mode for amateurs. The Hero-Mode has no "Super Guide" included and the enemies tougher.

- The On-Stage Dungeon, which is also playable at E3, isn't a Dungeon as we know it from the Zelda series. When entering a Dungeon, you will not notice you are in one. It will be a smooth gradation. There will be Dungeons with no Bosses and Bosses with no Dungeon. The "Dungeon" you are able to play at E3 will be an Ice-Level. It will be the frist "Dungeon" in the Game.

While we have not yet verified these rumors, rest assured we are working on it. What I will tell you is they come from a German forum, and yes the rumors do actually exist there. We are in the process of contacting the poster of the rumors to get a further source, so we'll let you know what we find as soon as we know. If it turns up nothing, we WILL release the source site later today. If it turns into something, hopefully we can add some real value to these words. For now, just imagine the possibilities... and remember, we'll know everything we want to know in just 3 days."

Well actually no it hasn't.

In a roundtable Miyamoto said that after Galaxy 2 they "couldn't not do the same for Zelda" in terms of the music, but in a later interview with Aonuma he said they hadn't really decided on anything yet.

So it's up in the air at this point.

I'm not really a big Zelda fan or anything, but I have seen this game getting a lot of crap for the way it looks. I'm glad to see you guys are of similar opinion, though -- I think the graphics are quite colorful and endearing, even if they're a bit dated. c:

But yeah, probably not going to play, haha.

That's a double negative.

I too enjoy the graphics quite well.

I'm sure lots of people may put it down for it's graphics though :v

New information from GameInformer

• Developers trying to take the franchises into new places. Make Skyward Sword the template for future Zelda games in the way that Ocarina of Time has been used as a template for games after it.
• Forest Temple is first dungeon. Then Fire temple.
• New species: Mogma. "A race of mole people" that pop only their torso out of the ground when talking to Link.
• Mogma warns Link of "shady guys in red."
• The Skyward Sword/Fi is used to "douse," a new power of the sword. Link holds the sword straight out and the game goes into first-person. The sword emits a loud noise when Link points in the direction he must go. Dousing is used for finding keys to hearts to even Zelda. Dousing replaces the compass in dungeons.
• The overworld is treated as a dungeon itself. Rather than exploring giant, open areas, between-dungeon segments feature a mixture of combat and puzzle solving, similar to dungeons. (Tiny seal like enemies called pyrup hide beneath rocks and inside walls and shoot fire to block Link's trek. Must blow them up with bomb flowers. Using the Wii Motion Plus Control, bombs can be thrown or rolled "like a bowling ball.")
• Skyward Sword features a new upgrade system: Items grow more powerful so "you won't stop using them" and it costs money. "In most games, by the time you hit the second half, you have the largest wallet in the game and it's constantly overflowing with rupees. Now you have something to spend all that wealth on." Upgrade system not fully developed. Using a mix of materials collected from enemies and rupees, the slingshot could be upgrade to a spread shot with greater firepower against larger groups of enemies. Each item has multiple levels of upgrade.
• Statues around Hyrule serve two purposes: save points and allow Link to call his bird to fly to Skyloft.
• Flying around Skyloft is reminiscent of sailing in The Wind Waker, but the bird flies much faster than the boat sails. Enemies and tornadoes provide obstacles, but no need to control the wind.
• Confirmed items: Slingshot, Bomb Bag, Bow and Arrow, Digging Mitts (unearth rupees, hearts, and other secrets hidden in the ground), Beetle (control it to collect out-of-reach items and cut through ropes or webs to help solves puzzles), Whip (grab certain things, suggested to swing from ledges.), Mystery Musical Item (Link is confirmed to master a new instrument using the Wii Motion Plus to control music, but Nintendo won't reveal what the instrument is).
• Instead of buying bombs, Link can refill his his Bomb Bag by picking up Bomb Flowers from around the environment.
• Hidden, rune-encrusted boxes can be activated on the ground. They teleport to the clouds and allow Link to locate them on his bird to treasure hunt
• Link can jump of the bird to sky dive toward the ground. Players can control and his angle his fall. Must press B shorly before hitting the ground to whip out a parachute and avoid being hurt.
• Only required to return to Skyloft between dungeons and at certain plot points, but Link can return to it almost at any time.
• Inside Fire Temple: Must use dowsing mechanic to find pieces of a key (I'm not sure if this is needed for all keys in dungeons or just this one).
• New stamina meter that depletes when Link uses special attacks or dashes or climbs quickly. If it empties entirely, Link is immobilized for a few seconds.
• Enemies may require 'unique interaction.' Example: When hanging from a ledge, a Bokoblin stomps on Link's hand and makes him fall before the player has a chance to lift himself up.
• Directing team is fairly young to Zelda.
• Bomb Bag is gained when a Mogma asks Link to retrieve it from a room full of monsters. He then gives it to Link as thanks.
• Can't use a Bomb while on fire. It blows up immediately and harms you (lol logic).
• Layout of Fire Temple is "true to Zelda."
• Zelda is referred to as a "precious oracle" and "female servant of the Goddess" by Ghirahim.
• The "other realm" of the game is the Silent Realm described as "spiritual that Link must go through."
• Silent Realm is composed of twisted versions of areas you've already explored.
• No weapons in Silent Realm so Link must avoid conflicts.
• Link carries a spiritual vessel that must be filled with tears before giant guardians cut the player down.
• Each tear gained will offer the player 90 seconds of Guardian-free gameplay.
• Tiny ghosts wield lanterns and patrol the Silent Realm. If Link is exposed to their light, the guardians reawaken, regardless of how much time has passed since the last tear Link gained.
• Light Seeds in the Silent Realm will make all tears shoot a beacon of light into the sky for 30 seconds, revealing their location.

The graphics were weird at first, but the more I saw of the game the more I liked it.

I've pre-ordered the special edition (with the wii remote and all) which is a first for me with a wii game. To be honest, I haven't been following news about the game for sometime so it should all be a surprise for me. Can't wait till next month!

I saw in a trailer that the musical instrument in this game is a harp.
How that'll work using the Wiimotes will be interesting.

I read somewhere that it's the same lyre that Sheik uses in Ocarina of Time.
This game will also supposedly explain why Ganondorf went to Hyrule in OoT without him actually being in this game.

Ganon always makes some type of cameo though. Maybe that tid bit of information is all that it will be.

So it is a prequel to OoT?
