The same thing happened with part 25 of my Dragon Quest VIII walkthrough, and I had to create custom art for it with the part number. The thumbnails are completely missing in the video editor as well.
a) Youtube sucks. b) This happens to me all the time. You just have to deal with it, because as far as I know there's no way to fix it beyond re-uploading the video. c) You have reminded me that I need to fix my custom thumbnails.
Is this something only happening to you today because I have a hellalotta friends on youtube having this happen especially today and it is pissing them off.
Haven't uploaded today yet, but the last time it happened before yesterday was May 21. As long as the video is viewable, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but still annoying. What's weird, though, is that when I published them, they all showed fine, except for the last one, which somehow got broken because I think I selected a different thumbnail and immediately published it.[DOUBLEPOST=1413337424][/DOUBLEPOST]@Lil' Mac: Yes. By default the thumbnail is the middle one, though it doesn't show as selected because you haven't actually selected it. However, the problem crops up when you choose a different thumbnail. I hope they're aware of the problem. I don't really do custom thumbnails, and I only use them when issues like these come up.
Yeah, youtube goes in and out of this phase, and it especially likes to do this with my videos for whatever reason. The only way around it I ever found was to wait until the video fully uploaded and stay on the same page you uploaded it from, and select the thumbnail there. I don't know what to do with custom thumbnails, as I have never gotten the chance to use them. If you can upload thumbnails from the original upload page then I suggest trying that.
No no, not how you make them, where you upload them. When you upload the video, on the same page you uploaded it, can you upload a thumbnail? Or do you usually go in after the video has been uploaded and add in the thumbnail? If the latter, I recommend trying to upload it with the video rather than wait a bit and add one.
I go in the video editor. Didn't know you can upload a custom thumbnail on the upload page, but you're saying that won't cause the in-video thumbnails to disappear?
@Lil' Mac: Appears to be fixed now, though of course it's not retroactive: As can be seen, I chose a different thumbnail for the video.
You have to have a verified account, which is also the thing you need to have videos longer than 15 minutes/over a certain file size.
Well I know how to get it, I just legally cannot. I was just saying that I personally do not know how a person who is verified uploads thumbnails.
You can either upload it with the video (by which I mean, when your video has finished uploading, you can put in a custom thumbnail from the same page), or you can do it through the editor later.
I would assume then to avoid the thumbnail glitch that he should upload the thumbnails with the videos. He'll probably have to suffer for now when it comes to adding thumbnails to older videos. Either way, he said it was "fixed now"
It's interesting he's had this problem, and even other people, because I've never had this problem myself. Sometimes if I cancel a video uploading or something along the lines, the video won't be there, so I'll have a blank thumbnail, but that's just because it's not fully uploaded. All of my uploaded videos have never had this. I wonder what causes some people to get this issue
