So I got one of my AMV's removed from Youtube the other day due to copyright infringement. I'm not that upset over it but perhaps some of you out there are and I'd like to give you a chance to say it. But let's keep it Intelligent as the group states.

Should Internet sites like Youtube protect the right of Free Speech or are the Movie companies in the right?

My opinion is this: I can understand the concern of entire movies/shows/etc being posted on Youtube and other such sites. But if it's an AMV I think it should be able to be posted. I mean for example the KH parodies we all know and love. It's not like we're posting them to make money off of them but more for entertainment purposes.

There has always been copyright problems with AMV's in the past, since you are using footage and music that you didn't write or own. But i'm yet to find someone who sells there AMV's and make money. They are a hobby and for entertainment.

While Parodies on the other hand is like a form of machinima, which is more like a TV show. This will more likely require copyrights. Look at Red vs Blue that uses the Halo game and is currently making $200,000 a year. So you can see why they are being careful.

I say the free speech on youtube is like anywhere else in the western world. You have a good amount of rights, but there are things that shouldn't be said, and in this case posted.

The idea of AMV's and parodies is contraversal since there are strong arguments on both sides. But since amv.org is popular and well known, and it not taken down. AMV's aren't illegal unlike uploading anime. So I think they shouldn't be deleted.

It depends on who has the money. Before, Youtube was run by two kids, with no money, and did it in their free time. Because of this no one really cared about suing them or charging copyright infringement charges because they have no money--companies who are concerned would walk away penny-less if they sued them. However, now that Google owns YouTube, you have a bit of a problem because Google is a very, very, very rich organization. So because Google runs youtube, they have to beware of copyright laws.

So technically they are not in the wrong at all. They really have no choice. And it's not blocking your freedom of speech as much as it is causing problems with Google. They want to remain safe and secure without the fear of charges. But now it's really hard to determine with all the deleted video's. People have been remixing songs, video's, anime's, etc., like you yourself were doing, Saix. But you're using files that will make Google lose money. So yeah, it would only really be blocking your 'freedom of speech' if it were you, the actual person making video's from music files or something.

    I dunno, hard to say.

I know, but still, I had all of my videos removed, and most of my friends' accounts are now "suspended".
So, I'm trying again using different materials, but I think that users should have a little more freedom. I don't see why those two had to sell it, anyway.

There is tech that you can use to download videos. I think that's wrong.

However, YouTube doesn't even give you a warning. It's just BOOM! Gone. That's what I don't like about it.

AMVs are good and all, but just like Darky said, depends on who's got the money, my cousin works in google and they bought youtube, he told me, once the company sues and wins, all copyright material under their company will be removed from the site but i mean, come on, it's just an AMV, an AMV never hurt anyone, not unless like Viacom Inc. did and removed all TV show episodes like Spongebob, etc. and pretty soon, anime will come in, except for disney of course, i asked my cousin, he said they haven't heard from disney yet sueing.....and pretty much soon, if this copyright issue spreads in Japan then surely all of KH in youtube is a sure "bye bye".

They sold it because they wanted money. Because google wanted it so bad, they could pretty much sell it at any price--just not like fifty billion dollars.

Anyway, wouldn't you like to sell something like that for 1.6 billion dollars? I sure as hell would. Lol.

Wrong. As long as you have your embed code enabled, someone can easily rip and download your video off YouTube. Anyways, I agree with DA.

First things first, I agree with DA.

Also, when you agree to the ToS's on sites liek thta free speech does not exist you follow there rules. Sites like youtube are worldwide and not every nation has free speech.
