Dude, learn TOLERANCE, or get the FUCK off the discussion Forum! This is a place for InTELLIGENT, well informed discussion! Your arguments have proven to be amateurish, ignorant, and lacking in supportive evidence. God, I wish there were a test to post in the discussion forum!

Rainbow~Monkey I'd recommend you either get with the program of posting valid responses to arguments or shut the **** up. The rest of you stop getting off topic, this is about how you chose your religion, let's keep the debates in the debate corner.

On topic, I was born to a highly Catholic family but never actually bought into it even at a young age. My dad loves telling his friends this story of me when I was like 5 or 6 when at catholic school a priest was in the class telling stories and I asked him if he was stupid for believing in that stuff. I lol'd. Eventually I grew up reading about other religions and decided they were all rubbish and settled on being an Atheist since that's where it's at.

It's funny because I'm pretty sure my grandmother still think I'm Catholic. I don't think I'd have the heart to tell them the truth since they would seriously get depressed and probably get a heart attack or something and I don't want them to die until I know I'm mentioned in her will.

Ell Oh Ell. More seriously, though, that is a pretty brave thing, asking that priest that.

Yet you talk about freedom of speech and try to disprove God :\

I was raised Catholic and converted to the Evangelical denomination for a couple years in high school. Now, however, I consider myself agnostic. I don't know if there is a god, I don't care if there is a god, I don't think its important to know if there is a god and I don't think its possible to know if there is a god.

I'm pretty much Atheist, although in tough times I guess I'd pray to anyone that'd listen...so Agnostic as well I suppose.

Atheist, because I don't give in to any desires to believe in a great force of good. Religions are interesting and helpful enough and I like the Wiccan religion, but I can't allow myself to choose faith over reason.

A valid hypothesis is one that can be disproven.
A neutral statement can always be written in two ways: the "zero hypothesis" (untruth, no connection, etc.) and the "alternative hypothesis".

    For example:
Zero hypothesis: There are no wild gorillas in Belgium.
Alternative: There are wild gorillas in Belgium.

The only usable one is the zero hypothesis since it can be disproven. It is refuted the moment we spot a wild gorilla in Belgium. The alternative cannot be disproven because just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean that it's not there. You may have checked at the wrong place and/or at the wrong time.

Choosing to lean towards the alternative hypothesis is of course scientifically irresponsible (Bunterx' "intellectual suicide" slogan was the subject of somewhat of a shitstorm but he had a point).
Thus, religious folks advocating "openness" are of course endlessly hypocritical seeing as they support a statement that will never be disproven (nor proven, I'm guessing, but they don't seem to care much). And if you have such an impregnable "argument", then why would you go into the danger zone and try to see things the other way?

This is one of the many reasons why I prefer atheism. The way I see it it's the only point of view that is fair game.
Also note that while I admit that atheism's "zero hypothesis" can be disproven, I sincerely doubt that it ever will. ;)

I wonder if someone else here has ever seen it this way.

I agree. It seems to me in at least the Christian religion [I've only learned the specifics of this one and I don't want to speak for ones I don't know about] that the Bible basically tells you that if you don't live the way God wants you to, you're going to hell. I don't like that. I wasn't really brought up having a religion -- yes, I made my conformation, and if you asked most of my family they'd say they're Christians, but it was never really a big thing in my house.

I believe what seems right at the time. If something unbearably ****** happens, I can't help but believe that if there was a God that this wouldn't happen. I don't think people should be lead around or base their lives around some spiritual being that may or may not exist.

I am agnostic, for the simple reason that there is no evidence for any religion nor is there evidence for the non-existence of a spiritual being. Of course, my reasons go deeper than that, but let's keep it at that.

Also, to the people arguing with Rainbow~Monkey, COME ON!! Obvious troll is obvious!

I am also seeing some misconceptions about atheism, and, ironically, some of these are being SAID by the atheists themselves!

    1) Atheism has NOTHING to do with science. Atheism is merely the belief that there is no God.
    2) Atheists, generally, do not wish to disprove, as they believe that it is already done. Why must you disprove what you don't think is there?

Atheism can take many forms. I believe that, in the absence of God(gods), science HAS to step up and make things understood. My greatest passion in life is the pursuit of knowledge, and the spreading of knowledge. In my mind, knowledge takes precedence over everything. Therefore, if there is a proof against religious thought, I must know it. If there is a proof FOR religious thought, even though none has ever even been hinted at, I must know it, as well.

In my ideal world, I envision a society of learners and thinkers, with none of the shallowness that infects our current society (celebrity doings, fashions that change daily, vastly overpaid athletes, etc). I realize that all of you might not think this way, but I do, and that single ideal shapes everything I say. Therefore, my ideology and beliefs are shaped by that vision, also.

i chose to be mormon a year ago... my ENTIRE family is catholic. they didnt speak to me for months when i told them i wanted to be baptized in the LDS church. theyre better now but they dont want to understand nor will they ever try to accept the faith for what it is... its just the close-mindedness of the catholic church in general in that situation.

i chose to convert to the LDS church because i believe it is the one true church with all the right teachings on the earth at this point. sure, i dont 100% agree with everything said by everyone, but its as good as i can get here in this life. :D

p.s. and im very happy with my decision

I am not gonna give up. I am still gonna tell you God is real.

Which lies? Give me one example and a logical explanation why it is a lie. For someone who hasn't been "desensitized" you make an awful lot of accusations that you don't bother explaining. ;)

Take your "God exists. Period." attitude to kindergarten where the folks are content with your non-arguments for ages 3 and below. :)
You are gonna need more than that if you want to be taken seriously here.

As an Athiest i must say what makes you rite and us wrong. You say that we are "proof" but that is not solid evidence for all we know we actually could have decended from the apes! You say look around? But all i see are cells, particals, bacteria .ect

The one thing that i dislike about most religions is that they think that their way is the "only" way and i find it quite odd since there are so many.

Personally, I'm agnostic. I hold the belief it's probably not possible to prove or disprove anything supernatural, but being unfalsifiable as such, it is a bit implausible, and I'm naturally skeptical and uniclined to believe it.

My general views are pretty liberal. I'm against the illegality of abortion, am for secularism, see nothing wrong with sex before marriage, etc.

also lol arguing with twelve year old christian kids on the internet
