There are so many games I've enjoyed on this marvellous console and I would probably answer differently to everyone who asked me this question. Kingdom Hearts, FFX, Persona 4, Jak & Daxter, I-Ninja, the list would go on but there's one game which stays in my mind mind forever and that would be Ape Escape 2.

It had a special charm that just hooked me from the moment I started playing. Loveable characters, intense story, great gameplay mechanics and amazing level designs. I enjoyed Ape Escape 3 just as much and it improved on everything from it's predecessor and more but I can say without a doubt, my all time favourite game on the PS2 is Ape Escape 2.

Besides the obvious Kingdom Hearts I have to say that Dark Cloud was one of my Favourite playstation games. I never found it difficult to follow the story lines of either the first or second game. (unlike some games*cough cough*) And I actually enjoy the dungeon system for going in and fighting enemies and such. I also enjoyed rebuilding the towns and finding out who wants what and where to put things trying to make people as happy as possible. And in my personal opinion it has good replay value.

Armored Core 3. Now there's a game that stuck with me. In fact I think it was one of the very first I played on the system, and to this day I still love to retread old ground from time to time. Impeccable style, rigorous yet ultimately rewarding mechanics, more customization than any other series could dream of, the interface in and out of combat is completely and seamlessly integrated into the atmosphere of the game, and some of my favorite music of all time resides in this soundtrack. Climbing to the top of the Arena, getting S-ranks in all missions, and defeating Exile are some of my proudest achievements and fondest memories as a gamer. Again, with so many games to choose from it seems like it'd take me longer to decide, but I can't lie to myself. This is the one that's always been there with me.

Definitely Persona 4. I could play it over and over and never get bored. The story line, the characters, the mechanics, even the soundtrack-- it's all so amazing! And with things like social links and alternate endings, it definitely keeps itself fresh.

Honorable mentions to the .hack//G.U. trilogy, Jak and Daxter, and Psychonauts, though.

Man, it's difficult for me to even choose a few favourites. My greatest gaming days were spent on the PS2.

If I had to choose one, it would be Persona 3 FES. I felt like I could really connect with all of the characters, and the game did well to flesh them out and make you actually care about them. I got the ending spoiled for me before I even played it and it still hit me hard. I thought they did a stellar job with the localistation and it had some of my favourite voice actors in it. The soundtrack is awesome too.

Honorable mentions to Kingdom Hearts I & II, Persona 4, Tales of... the Abyss/Destiny DC/Legendia/Rebirth, Silent Hill 2 & 3, RE4, Dark Cloud, Dark Chronicle, Rule of Rose, DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

Oh man. So many good memories with my PS2. It's impossible to choose my FAVORITE out of all my games. I can list the most favorites out of all of them.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 - Clocked probably at least a thousand hours into that game. I kid you not
    Jak 3 - Nuff said
    KH2 - Duh
    007 Nightfire - Oddjob OP
    Final Fantasy X - HAWHAWHAWHAW
Medal of Honor: Frontline - Best WWII game IMO

From afar, Jay spies this thread full of inferior ports and fun timesinks.

GUYS GUYS GUYS YOU'RE ALL WRONG

I'm sorry, I know it happens, but you forgot the one true PS2 classic

    GOD HAAAAAAAND

God Hand is single handedly one of the best games on the PS2. The magic here is it's also probably one of the worst. The game is cheaply made, it reuses assets, its mechanics are simple, its art isn't exactly Okami or Resi 4, and the cutscenes are atrociously bad. BUT THAT'S THE FUN OF GOD HAND. It's a definitive 3D beat 'em up title where your main focus isn't on its bombastic characters, the cheesey one liners, or the out of this world enemies and situations. It's a game about punching things. That's all it is. Everything else is just gravy. And man, they got the punching right. Allowing customizable combos and rewards for doing well such as lightning speed or crazy moves and just advancing to even better places with more gravy.

God Hand is great. I can't do it justice without dissecting it to pieces. I'm just going to say one thing:

Play God Hand. It's actually better than what you're playing right now

Seeing as how the answer has already been said, I might as well say.

Yeah I know it was ported to the Wii but that's besides the point.

    Um, really?

    And my personal favorite,

The second one is obviously not a classic by anyone's standards except mine but is still a good game nonetheless.

The Wii version is super inferior. As far as the pointer controls seeming ideal, I've heard an argument from Kamiya for the analog controls and I can't say it didn't make sense to me.

I'd say kingdom hearts but personally it'd be Persona 3 or 4 because of how fun they were to play I played them a whole lot more than kingdom hearts personally back when I was younger but it's hard to choose between them :C

I'm not including games I played on other systems (like Shadow of the Colossus on the PS3):

One of the best character action games ever. Choc-full of personality, amazingly implemented mechanics, interesting character/weapon/enemy designs, a solid story, good voice-acting, good music, etc. Only gripe is the platforming bits and the kinda boring level design in some spots. Vergil boss fights are my life.

The best Dragon Ball Z game ever made. I say that with no regrets. Solid fighting game action where the characters actually feel pretty unique from each other instead of being essentially different skins, a decent story mode, an awesome tournament mode, great graphics, and fun ways to customize characters via items and move sets.

Probably the most polarizing titles in the series, but I still love it. A great story that amazingly connects its themes to the plot and gameplay in ways people still aren't realizing, and tons of memorable moments.

I'd definitely call Metal Gear Solid 3 a classic (YEAH ATLAS THAT'S RIGHT.)

Like Hayabusa, I will not add any PS2 ports to other systems (Like Tales of the Abyss and MGS3, even though I am very tempted to add it.)

Tekken 5 - This is the game that got me hooked to fighting games.

Need for Speed Most Wanted - Racing game that I used to play a lot when I was a kid.

Gran Turismo 4 - One of the first games that support HD, which increases the experience.

Kingdom Hearts - Of course I'm going to add this...

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas - I recently played this on the PC, but it's the PS2 version that got me hooked to the GTA series.

The second MGS is actually very highly regarded. It just wasn't at launch. It's not only considered a classic, it's considered one of the greatest games of all time.

    Well, for starters:

    • I've never liked Raiden. Since MGS2, the only thing that has somewhat given me some respect for him was Reveangance. And I didn't even like that.
    • Too much time took place at Big Shell.
    • Solid Snake is great, but I honestly like playing as Big Boss more. There's something about playing the villain that adds more to the story, and gives another angle that is MUCH needed. Compare Solid to Ezio.
    • The whole concept of Solidus was so ****ing stupid.
    I don't know. I just like MGS3 a bit more.

No one questioned your like or your opinion towards MGS2. You said it's not a classic by anyone's standards. That's factually incorrect- that game has been given much praise over the years now that the Raiden secret is out and is widely complimented for its meta-narrative. The game is very popular nowadays and has appeared on many publications' greatest games of all time list.

    Wait, what?

If by saying "the second one" you thought I meant MGS2, I was talking about the second game I listed as a classic: MGS3.

A lot of people don't consider MGS3 a classic. I know MGS2 has gotten a lot of praise; I still have it, even though I didn't like it all that much.

    No worries, buddy.
