You....you don't like Mexicans?????

i'm Mexican. one day my friend (let's call her Melissa) told me and my other friend (let's call HER Brittany) that she doesn't like Mexicans. she said "no offense" but that's when i get most offended. she said they're all "gang-bangers". "....no, no they're not" Brittany told Melissa.
"Well, most of them. Except for you guys cuz you're Mexican"
........Mexicans aren't gang bangers. that's only some. she acts like there's no American gang-bangers. And Mexico is a poor country.
This really hurt both our feelings. Brittany told me, "that's not even a fair reason to dislike Mexican. and the worst part is the fact that she said it in front of TWO Mexicans (us)"
i know, i know. she has the right to like and dislike what she wants. but it really hurt. we told her but she NEVER said sorry. it's still bugging me. what do you think i should tell her????????

 

I suggest to explain to her how you felt when she told you that. IF she's a great friend then she'll respect and apologize. You can't do much but just talk to her about it.

Yea, that seems pretty racist on your friend's part. If she doesn't straighten out, someones going to - hard. Not me, of course, but one day, she's gonna be in trouble with that attitude.

 

I don't have any problems with mexicans. In fact I have quite a few mexican friends at school. lol

 

She is marginalizing and spotlighting the Mexican Culture. Explain to her how you did take offense and show her "well you are X so you are all X, no offense." Show her that it is offensive even if she thinks that saying no offense is justification enough to go ahead and keep saying it.

 

I feel kinda different. I am also Mexican and people joke about me liking taco bell (i know it doesn't help the stereotype, but i really love taco bell). Usually it's my friends who say it, and they just joke around. Ask her if she was just joking like my friends do. If she wasn't...

I just went through the same thing with another friend of mine who just hated Hispanics in general. If you read my thread in Help With Life, you'd see she liked "joking" around about them being shot, among other things, and when I called her out about it and told her that wasn't right (because I'm a quarter Mexican myself, and I'm studying to be an ESL teacher), she just told me to f*cking grow up. So I parted ways.

So ask her if she really was joking around, and if she wasn't tell her to pull her act together or you just might not be friends with her anymore. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be friends with someone who was that racist and constantly took jabs at my heritage. She needs to know that those jokes aren't funny and actually can hurt people.

That sistem Does not always come through. And some illegal immigrants are hard working people, they don't sloth around like most americans do. In fact, most americans walk as if the own the place, when in reality, they just imposed themselves on it, and its just land. I detest hearing people bothering others with "fence jumped" Jokes. Or say use such a strong word as "hate" to classify most of the mexicans, even when they are just trying to get a living. Its easy when your accomodated to say "oh! I hate that people come illegally" When the immigration system denies them, most of them have to resort to extreme measures, just to survive. I don't think anyone in this site needs to because, at least we have a roof and daily bread.

As for your friend. You should try to reason with her. and tell her its not nice to say that, when she's being racist and prejudist.

 

But she really wasn't joking around. She said it like really seriously and you could tell she wasn't joking around cuz when she DOES joke around she wouldn't say it twice or more than once. she's said her whole family is against Mexicans about 5 times.
And yes, i sgree that she was being racist and very prejudice.

You think being Mexican is bad? Let me tell you about my country, then. People from outside think that this country is all about jungles, beaches, and hot babes. They think that the streets are always infested with monkeys and other passing animals. Not only that, their general image of men from this country are just delinquents and vagabonds or other things like that, and even worse is that women are always just seen as whores or prostitutes. If they receive a woman from here in an international airport, they already go assuming that she's going to a brothel or other kinds of prostitution houses, if what I've heard is right. Not to mention that Mexico is probably a much more developed country than this one, so yeah, your situation could have been a lot worse.

 

That's weird. A couple of my friends are like that with my race. I think it's stupid and ignorant.

If it was really offensive, you should maybe sit down with her and a counseler and vent. Tell her how it made you feel. Then listen to her response.​

 

Tell her to apologize and say to her not to think an entire culture is like that.

Theres this guy at this school who insulted his "best friend" a Mexican, and made up a story, oh this guy said that Mexicans were this and were that, just so the Mexican could beat them up. Unfortunately, that was a lost case, the two friends are still friends and they still both are very evil.
So, the guy that was racist, is the most worst guy of all. Nobody likes him.
The girl, Melissa, don't talk to her. She's bad. Anyone whos a discriminator is pure evil.
