You cant hide forever

"That bad or worse?"Lyra asked

"Fine,But dont open your mouth to anyone."he muttered"Yeah....I dont need to see Ocean tell them what a Jacka** i was for leaving."

 

"Worse." Ocean nodded. "She was like how Mum was for about a year or so, it was pretty rare to see her as a human actually around then. To the point we were debating if getting a dog basket might be good idea so she didn't always get fur all over the bedsheets in River's room. Then it started to change."

"Good, good." Jacob nodded as he headed outside and down off the patio to the swings that were still up at the bottom of the garden despite the fact all the grandchildren were pretty grown up already. He sat down one one of them and let it swing gently under him.

 

"Changed?"she asked

River sat down on the other swing,his knees almost at his chin"well?what do you want to know?"

 

"She's become really self-destructive. I haven't actually told River most of this because it'd just make him feel terrible. She'd disappear off the face of the earth for up to two months at a time and come back half-dead from exhaustion and injuries from fights with vampires. She'd drink herself into oblivion every chance she got. Once I even caught her trying to hook up with some random guy, thing is because of the imprinting it didn't really work. The guy could tell she wasn't being completely serious so obviously nothing happened. It was the most bizarre flirting I've ever seen. But yeah, you get the picture." Ocean said, her brow furrowing with worry. You could tell she'd been quite disturbed by it all.

"Firstly: What is this organisation army thing? and secondly: Who's gotten you so worried? I can smell the tension around you." Jacob asked, once again the level of maturity in him being slightly more then just a tad unnerving.

 

"We-...They are a special unit...they're called in when someone highly dangerous or just stupid is out and about...thats what I trained for ok? taking people out of the world who shouldnt be in it.....rogue vampire's and werewolves...witches and wizards who threatened exposure more than three times and sometimes...Humans....at first I thought I was doing good...helping people y'know? Did you know they do this thing-lets all it a operation- to take most of your emotions away? so when you.....Kill you feel no remorse.....no sorrow for what you've done....your not supposed to wake up during the operation....I did....so...It didnt work as good,thats why Im a little....weird....they also make you stronger....smarter...faster....or they try to...they got two out of three for me...after I was assigned to get rid of a friend who'd left...I....couldnt take it anymore....the killing ....the training...the fighting...so I left....and Im worried.....no scared that they'll find me and im Terrified of what everyone will think of me one they know what I've done...."


"Has River spoke to her? like really spoke to her?"

 

Jacob's jaw dropped, he was in shock from what he'd just heard. He knew there were factions in the world that would do anything to prevent exposure of the magical world and their little sub-worlds of werewolves and vampires and banshees and such. But he had no idea they were this big, or this dangerous. Or had these abilities.
"Everyone's your family though. They'll love you no matter what, and it's not like we'll let you get thrown to the wolves, as it were. Or at least I know I wouldn't. It took a lot of balls to just up and leave like you did, so you have my respect for that." He said, bowing his head slightly as a sign of respect.

"No." She said shaking her head. "They've barely spoken two words to each other. He's tried apologising, but that's not going to be enough to repair all that damage... I keep telling him to talk to her, but he won't listen. It's almost seems as though he doesn't really care... And I think Hermia's picked up on that vibe too."

 

He laughed darkly "Thanks Jake....but if they find me....im pretty much a dead man walkin' and theres nothing anyone could do...but it might take them awhile to do so...I took out my traker,see?"he shoved his sleeve up,showing a long cut that couldnt've been more than a week old,"Im pretty much scott-free without it...but they have other ways....they always do."


"Im sure he does Care.....He's been gone so long he may not know how to react around her anymore....or anyone else...He seemed uncomfortable...do you know what he's been doing?"

 

"I think you under-estimate the power of Team Werewolf here River." Jacob chuckled. "I'm pretty certain we've got more than enough power to take down a few soldiers. I mean there's me, your Dad, you, your Mum, Hermia, Uncle Ben and his pack of about ten other wolves. That's already sixteen without even stretching it." He smirked.

"I have no idea." She said leaning against a counter and hanging her head. "He refused to talk to anyone about it."

 

He grinned"Thanks Jacob again but I dont want you lot getting into...anyway...the way I see it...I die....I die some sort of hero or something right? and I wont go down alone...Im taking alot with me...this might sound....bad...but now,Im the type of guy that if I want you dead,or someone wants you dead.....you usualy turn up dead..."he grinned weakly

"Nothing? at all?"she said"Do you think he's in trouble?"

 

"Aren't you Mr. Tough Talk." Jacob laughed, swinging backwards on the swing slightly. "And you're not getting an option with me joining in, I'm fed up of wasting my abilities. I have the ability to fight, I just can't because I'm too young and sh*t like that." He said rolling his eyes.

"Oh, I know he's in trouble. It's River after all." Ocean giggled weakly, unsure if she should mention how he's gone AWOL or not.

 

He laughed "You actually want to fight?"


"I hope its not serious..."she muttered

 

"Yeah, what's so funny about that?" Jacob asked, scowling slightly. "I want to take down a few vampires, it's what we do after all. Protect the humans, right?"

"Same here..." Ocean sighed, looking out of the window and down towards the boys on the swings.

Casey looked to see what Ocean was looking at. "You know... It doesn't seem five minutes ago River was teaching Jacob how to swing on those things..." He said, a slightly melancholy tone in his voice as the long past memories came forwards.

 

He smiled,"Your forgetting its nots just vampires..."

"seems like only 5 minutes ago River was here,where he was meant to be with everyone,happy and fine,with no intentions of ever leaving ..."

 

"I don't care, I'll take on whatever comes my way." He grinned smugly. "I can handle it."

"It seems five minutes ago him and Hermia were all set to spend the rest of their lives together. Now it seems unlikely they'll see through the rest of the year..."

 

"He grinned"How's your mum by the way?"

"Things change...people change"

 

"Same as always." Jacob sighed. "Quiet and depressed..."

"Imprinting doesn't change... That's eternal. So why are they drifting apart...?"

 

"so...you like school?"


"I dont know..."

 

"I spent the last two years being picked on for being small, so not so far. Next year however is looking good." He said, grinning slightly with the thought of revenge glimmering in his eyes.

"I don't understand imprinting..."

 

"who picked on you?"he said obviously annoyed someone had dare pick on his cousin

"You'd have to ask your parents about it."

"ask your parents what? if its the babies thing im sure you know that answer by now...or I'd hope you did"Mickey said letting himself in,his youngest daughter trailing behind him

 

"Couple of twats in Slytherin." Jacob shrugged. "They'll get what's coming to them next year though." He grinned deviously.

Ocean opened her mouth to give a quick comeback. But she quickly thought better of it, considering it was her Dad she was talking to. "Haha Dad. Very funny, you should so do stand up."
