You can't call yourself a gamer is havn't played a Final Fantasy game

Well I agree. I love the FF series. I played FF's VII, XII, III on DS and XII RW on Ds. They are the best games EVEr!

If you ask me, people who dont like/play final fantasy games are stupid because more than a third of Kingdom Hearts is Final Fantasy stuff. So If you hate final fantasy, why are you a member of this forum!

 

Wow, I find this hilarious, not just because of the statement, but because I saw the exact same thread on another forum, and here's my take on this.

A gamer by definition, is someone who spends most of their time learning about or playing games.
Sure, there are many type of gamers, Hardcore ones, casual ones, regular ones, average ones....But it's not what you play that makes you a gamer.

The FF series is a famous one indeed, but hardly 1/4 of the gamer population has played one of the FF games..So you'd say that the other 3/4, which some spend 70 hours a week playing games, aren't gamers, just because they haven't touched the FF series?

 

i disagree with you a gamer is a person that knows verities of games and never restricting there self
i know a few gamers that never even heard of FF ,FF is one of the most poplar games that have been created in this world ,when it came out it left such an impact on people that gaming can be an art and a challenge that goes beyond your imagination ^^
i've played FFX,FFX-2,FFVII,FFXII and i hardly call my self a gamer yet :3

 

That's entirely inaccurate. I dislike all the FF games besides VII and XII. I mostly dislike turn-based RPG's, but I do like the FF stories. Also, KH has far different gameplay than the FF series. So combining FF story elements with non-FF gameplay seems like a good idea for gamers like me who like the story but dislike the turn-based RPG elements.

 

In my opinion, if you haven't played the original Donkey Kong, then you can't call yourself a gamer.

 

Just because it's a good game, doesn't mean you have to play it to be a "gamer."

There are people who say this about any game that's been around a while. I.e. You can't say you are a real gamer if you haven't played Mario games' etc. It's ridiculous to say and people have different tastes and aren't going to like the same stuff. I would say you can call yourself a 'gamer' if you play 'games'. Obviously, you can call yourself an FF Gamer if you play FF games...etc.

 

Disagreed. Your not a gamer if you haven't played the original Mario.That is the only game you need to play to officially be a hardcore gamer.

 

Donkey Kong singlehandedly saved the gaming industry from the Video Game Crash of 1983. It may be the single most important game ever invented. Its importance transcends petty genre classifications such as platforming, RPGs, etc. Just because its not your genre doesn't mean you shouldn't play it.

 

I don't agree. Some people don't like the RPG type games more like the shooting in one person point of view like Halo and Gears and DMC4. They can be the gunner gamers not the RPG type.

 

Not single-handedly. It had help from the still popular Pac Man. But that doesn't matter at all. That's like saying if you haven't played Final Fantasy I you aren't a fan of Square, because Final Fantasy I truly single-handedly saved Square from ruin. I know people who hate the original Donkey Kong and Mario, but they're hardcore gamers.

 

This is a sweeping decision, so I can find many who disagree, but I do believe there are like a handful of games that need to be played or at least heard about. Final Fantasy in my opinion is one of them.

 

What is it with you people and games you "need to play?" This isn't only directed to you, Lightning, but to many users in this thread. I honestly don't get it. A gamer is someone who invests considerable time and money into the video gaming hobby. Suddenly a few of you think that someone like the infamous "Fatal1ty", a hardcore FPS gamer and one of the greatest gamers in the world isn't a gamer because he didn't play a Final Fantasy game. Your logic is flawed.

Playing a certain franchise doesn't make you a gamer. Just the experience and the fun of getting yourself involved and interested in stories or gameplay should be enough.

 

I'd say you can't call yourself a gamer if you haven't heard of the Final Fantasy games. Seriously.

disagree. Being a gamer means you enjoying gaming. It isn't selective to genre, series, or platform.

To be called a true hardcore gamer imo means that you can enjoy playing everything, not just FPS or RPG.

Therefore, I am a gamer.
