Only stand alone anime movies I've seen are the Vampire Hunter D movies. Bloodlust has some wonderful animation. The original is a classic.

for me it's kinda just anime. i don't understand.
I watched American Psycho again last night and only paused it once, whereas with anime I pause like every five minutes, which makes watching a movie take much longer than it should. but yeah, I'm p. excited for both of those.

The Rebuild of Evangelion movies are really good, but it's still up in the air whether or not they're a remake of or a sequel to the original series.

I got roped into watching the third Bleach movie three years ago and from what I recall it's basically Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories: The Movie but with lots of Spanish guitar. I don't know how or if it's related to the main series.

Captain Earth is paced well enough that if you binge it, it's just like watching a movie. Same for No Game No Life.

That's pretty much all the non-Ghibli anime movies that aren't on your list of stuff you've watched that I know of and have seen. From Up on Poppy Hill is Ghibli, but from what I've seen it's rather obscure and hasn't really gotten a lot of recognition. It's okay.

And yes, I'm aware that none of this is what you're asking for.

Part of me, the very small part of me that wants to not hate Evangelion, wants to watch the Evangelion movies just to experience it again and see if I like those better. Not any time soon though.

I'm going to pretend like you didn't just recommend Bleach. I've seen it.

I looked up Captain Earth after you posted about it a couple threads ago and saw that it got unfavorable reviews. Care to rebut? I'm trying to watch good things here. I've seen NGNL.

I'm assuming the thread you mean is this one.

Aside from what I said there, the best thing that I can say about it is that it makes me feel optimistic when I watch it. The reviews do point out valid flaws, but they aren't nearly as prominent as they seem in the reviews. I compared it to both Evangelion and Eureka 7 in the other thread and it delivers on what makes both of them great.

The main thing from Evangelion that I see in Captain Earth is the grand plot carried out by the relatively small main cast. All of the characters are involved in something much bigger than themselves and the mysteries behind it are what drive me to keep watching. It's also not as overt with it as Eva is and that makes for a much better experience. It also takes a few smaller elements from Eva, particularly the "stock situations" that are used to get the characters to interact. Unlike Eva, however, it always feels organic and, like I touched on in the other thread, they interact like real adolescents who have grown up like they have. Hana, for example, grew up extremely sheltered with next to nothing in terms of human interaction, leading her to be adorably unaware of her sexuality even while she experiences and acts on urges that are related to it. Where Eva stuck each character with an archetype and then deconstructed it, Captain Earth uses archetypes as a starting point and depicts the characters growing out of them into real people that actually seem human. In short, everything that Evangelion did wrong, Captain Earth does right. Everything that Evangelion did right, Captain Earth does just as well and, in some cases, better.

From Eureka 7, the biggest thing I've noticed is that Daichi and Hana feels like they were meant to be expies of Renton and Eureka, but somewhere along the line it just didn't work and the writers went in a different direction that maintained the basic dynamic. Their relationship depicts the pure and simple love that we all feel before we realize that nothing can be that simple. I know that the love I see between them would never work for long in real life, but at the same time I can't help feeling like it could because they truly are perfect for each other.
