LOOK! SOMETHING TRADITIONAL! =O AND A FEW DAYS LATE! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/Akachounin/KHR/YearoftheRat.jpg So...I tried something a bit more on the Asian-ish style. First time I've ever done that. ...And it's the first time I've ever written Chinese characters, even though I am Chinese. I know, I know, I'm a failure of an Asian. xDD I used an H pencil for sketching it and then 6B and red and yellow colored pencils. CnC please? :33 PS: Happy New Year to all fellow Asians. 83
lol, it's a creative topic. Since it's simple and straight forward, I have no suggestions. Happy "new" year.
I really like the simplistic style of the rat drawing, however I personally wouldn't have used the technique you used to do this. To keep it in the same "Asian style" thing, (very loose wording, I'll admit) why didn't you use those black Chinese inks? Or a sort of paint. I think a more flowy, natural paintbrushy technique would've fit better, not only for the sake of making the simple design look cleaner, but also the fact that it's very common in Chinese calligraphy to use paints. Doing it colored pencils doesn't do the design justice, but it's still good nontheless. :]
Thanks, everyone. And to answer your questions...Uh...Flowers, I suppose I'll call you, it's because I don't have any calligraphy things in my house. xDD I tried to make the flow-ish sort of effect with the pencils, but it didn't come out the way I had hoped. And the reason for colored pencils is simply because when it was finished, it looked really plain and sad looking. So I used the New Year colors. Now that I think about it, I should've added something like oranges. I'll have to try that next year. ^^"
No prob! You've inspired me to draw something similar I'll do it later tonight maybe. I don't have a scanner, though. Well, I do, but it's not hooked up.
Wanna buy you Flowers is SA, also known as GIIIIIIIRLZ. :3 I agree wholeheartly with her suggestion of the use of tools. Doesn't have to be a calligraphic brush or ink, something like for example watercolours or guache paint would work just as good. Or acrylic which is a fav of mine, it is closer to how oil paint works but perhaps easier to use. Maybe there's some in your school? *I dunno if you go to school or not, I can only asume that you do* It's a very nice design, simple lines and few colours - but it looks more like a preview sketch than a finished piece when you want it to have the Asian feel to it. Should you have the time and effort to do so, make another version that you paint instead. :>
Thanks. :3 Ahaha. Time. xDD Yeah, I knew that she was formerly SA, but...meh. I do go to school, but I'm not so sure where the paint is. I'm new this year...and I did this sitting in front of my computer waiting for videos to buffer. >_> I may go back and work on it, since it's the first time I've tried something like this, and if I do I'll post it. Thanks again for the suggestions. =D
