This topic is one that I really want to discuss. I believe Xion to be girl. Everyone refers to who are one Xigbar see's her as Ven only until later within the game, which I believe to be a sign of Sora's memory slowly coming back. In the game everyone refers to Xion as "she" and "her" so I am to believe that Xion is of female gender.

i agree she is definatly a female dispite the fact that she is just a puppet. she developed an identity and it was one of a girl, therefor she is female

I agree with you both. Also, wouldn't she have to be female anyway since she is Sora's memory of Kairi? She even looks like Kairi with black hair. It's pretty canon that Xion is female anyway.

Exactly. She does gain the personality of a girl and not just any girl, Kairi was her base. Most would say she is gender-less because of the fact that she changes body structure. However, she is human even if a puppet. She would not feel pain if she was just a gender-less Puppet. If I poked a hole into her body, wouldn't she bleed. Her anatomy is human and must have sexual organs as well, and she wouldn't function without them. Clones have organs too. Xion is a girl.

    Xion is complicated

At first glance Xion is clearly female, and even when you dig deeper we often call her such simply because this is how we see Xion almost all the time.

Then it turns out she's a puppet and doesn't really have a gender. The form she takes is representative of how that person is connected to Sora. The form Roxas sees is representative of Sora's memories of Kairi. The events of Birth by Sleep led to the famous Ven scene with Xigbar. Saix had no strong bonds so he always saw the puppet. So on and so forth. If anything this realization make Xion more male because of her destiny to take the form of Sora in absolute.

Then digging even deeper, many people think that Xion became a person aside from the replica project. Perhaps only faintly but she appears in Dream Drop Distance when she ought not exist at all. And the form given to her in this state goes back to point one, the Kairi resemblance, thus making Xion female

I agree with everyone and plus the three trios all have a girl: Terra, Ven, Aqua, Riku, Sora, Kairi, Axel, Roxas, and Xion. Even as being Sora up at the clock tower with Roxas she still had a girl voice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but
Xion is basically just a manifestation of memory, is she not? It's impossible to classify her by our perceptions of sex or gender, simply because she is not 'human,' despite the fact that we see her as a female 90% of the time. Her image is entirely subjective upon who is looking. Saïx, for example, sees her only as a doll. We use female pronouns and such when referring to her likely because the form most familiar to us is the black-haired Kairi one. I would have to agree with Mixt; she's an "it's complicated."

Xion is female. She might not have a sex, but her gender is female. Because she's a physical manifestation of memories and whatnot.

If we think that she is Sora's replica she would be cleary a Boy, as everyone sees "her" as they want (or as the heart tied to sora that they themselves are more attached), Roxas saw her as the memories of Kairi in Sora's heart... because of that "she" gained that aperance... as Roxas and Axel were her only friends she probably "chose to be this way".
So she is a transexual girl stuck in a boy's body at best.

She is clearly a girl just becuase she obviously is, hair, boobs, voice, the way she acts, way she walks. and nobodies dont bleed so niether do clones. only true humans bleed. like Lea. Also I think that the reason Xigbar saw Ven instead of Xion is because of a memory fluke while namine was working. Because if you notice, the organization still have their memories from when they were human even though they claim not to. because everyones name is their original name with an X in it.

Sora+X = Roxas, Lea+X = Axel. Xemnas clearly remembers his days as Xehanort because he is still obsessed with the X blade. But this also makes me wonder. What is Xions name supposed to be, take away the X and your are left with ions. Is that somone we know or will meet?

And dont throw any DDD explainations at me because I havent played it or read it at all. And if you spoil it for me, I will kill you.

She doesn't have another name. It's "No. i" or something similar. Meaning she's "Number 1" of the replica project. She was made before Replica Riku.

As for the question, we mostly see Xion as female but that's only because we're looking through the eyes of Roxas. To Xigbar, she's Ven. If we played as Xigbar the whole game then we'd be calling Xion male. Though the way she acts is clearly female and that's something that everyone would see regardless of what appears on the outside.

The really question is why some of them see her differently?

I see it that Xion is biologically sexually-neutral. She has no reproductive organs (which is how we classify sex) because she's a clone (and I doubt the Organization cared enough to give her some. If Sora's memories gave her some, they'd probably be male since I doubt he's seen anybody's but his own >>). Gender-wise, she seems to be female. Sex = biological and gender = psychological.

If I remember correctly, it's that everybody sees her in a different way, depending on what their connection to Sora is. Those with no connection to Sora see a doll, those who build a connection to her specifically see the black-haired girl (though I think this is her "true" self built from how she sees herself), those with a connection depends on what that connection sees. Xigbar had no contact with Sora beforehand, but he met and fought Ven. Since Xion is made from Sora's memories, which are stored in hearts, which houses Ven's heart, Xigbar saw Ven.

    ...or something.
