Why would you complain if you were given the villain? Being able to be evil and make the audience love you for it is so satisfying.

It's lulzy how you exaggerated it by saying the Devil and Hitler.

But no. That's the job of an actor. To portray the villian. If there was no villian, alot of the time, there'd be no motivation for the characters, so the plot wouldn't be able to move forward.

Not all villians "look" evil. Villany and evil are psychological, not physical. It is society that created the idea that somebody can "look" evil, when in fact, there is no such thing.

There would be no reason to feel offened or something if you were cast as an antagonist... It's all about preception and once you figure out that you can shape and mould the villan into a more pleasing character to play, but still be a villain, that makes the part so much easier to play... I've been doing a drama course for four years now and I can tell you that it's really interesting the way some people can take a character and create another form of that character that makes everyone think "Wow, I didnt think you could do that with that character." and in the end, it's not about who you play in a performance, it's how you play it...

I highly doubt that I would feel offended. They aren't judging me on my character, but on how well I can act. (Plus that would be a big role, so I might be happy that they think so fondly of my acting)
But if I was asked to play the role of a villain who was known for how they look, as in Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter, then I would get a little offended (I think there was an article about that I think, but I can't remember the date or the newspaper)

I guess in the end it would be an honor to be even casted.
I would hate to play as one, but at the same time it really woudn't bother me as much.

I'd be more happy than mad. Sure those acts could be bad, but I'm honored to be casted.

Not at all. I've never gotten the chance to play a villan before, but if I continue my theatre carrier, I really want to play Ursula. ^^

I wouldn't be sure if I would be offended in any way. It would feel a little awkward, but then again, most actors would tell you it's more fun to play the villain.

I'd accept it as a compliment on my acting abilities. So no, I wouldn't take offense at all.

Hardly offended. It's always cool to play the villain. In some plays and movies, the villain is a lot more remembered than the hero.

I'd not mind at all. As a matter of fact, I'll be more inclined to play an "evil" character over a leading role. It takes a lot of skill to portray an antagonistic character since there is more to being bad and trying to kill the hero while doing the evil laugh. It's also the antagonists who make a movie a movie and leave a lasting impression [i.e. Darth Vader, Dracula, Organization XIII, etc.]. Without the antagonist, you don't really have a movie at all, and when the antagonist really starts to get on your nerves because he's always infiltrating the success of the hero, you know that the character of the antagonist was built well.

As an actor/actress, one should be open to both roles, being the hero or the antagonist. In most movies, the hero role is easy as after 10-15 issues, the hero will still get his/her way, and the antagonist is always doomed to fail. So, you gotta make that loss seem worth the cause and act.

Besides...playing the evil character is also uber fun. Mwahahaha!

Why be offended at something you would take pride in doing?? If you are serious and you are looking at acting as your professional coureer, I wouldn't be offended. It'd be a whole lot of fun actually to play the villan. I'm in a school play at the moment, and I didn't get the role of the villan, but the mother of the main character who acts like a worry-ward all the time. I understood why the teacher placed me as that because she knows I can act out the part and perform it well. Same would go for anyone who is selected as a villan.

I'd take it as a compliment, embrace the role and perform my best xD.

    Not at all.

A good actor shouldn't whine about the part they get, unless it is necessary, and plus, why'd they audition for the part in the first place? Also, to be a character like the Devil or Hitler, etc. requires some pretty good acting skills to make you act like that thing/person, so that person would probably be remembered more and then casted to other movies.

I would not be offended in the slightest.

If you audition for a part in a movie, you should be grateful that you actually got a part in the film rather than complaining about what role you are paid to play.

No I wouldn't be offended because it is simply a role and I know in my heart that I'm nothing like that. It would be an alias so to speak, just who I would be during the shoot and then when it was over I would be me again.

I can relate for when I was a freshman in highschool I was cast as Lucifer in the play "Cherry Orchard Burning". It was a difficult role being evil and all something I'm the completly opposite to, but I was proud of my performance and saw another side of myself I didn't know existed.

Simply, what ever role a person gets, why would anyone be offended knowing he or she is nothing like that notorious figure in history?
