I'm actually considering upgrading to this.

I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7, but my mom has that, and it can only be on one computer.
She doesn't use Vista anymore, so that can be used.

It's an upgrade disc, which can be used two ways: Complete reformat or upgrading without having to back files up since nothing is lost, as it's just an upgrade.

We're planning on doing it on Friday after school sometime, as my mom has the day off because of an eye appointment.
It will be done the second way, but is there anything I should know about Vista?

Part of the reason I'm doing this is because I am hoping it will fix my clock's synchronization issue.

Windows 7 can only be on one computer? Why did she come up with that rule?

Wait let me get this straight, you wanted to upgrade to 7 but you are upgraded to vista? Does that mean you are currently running XP?

Lol, no, it's not her rule.
I believe it's on the box or something.

    That is correct.

I've been using Windows XP, because it still seems to be the best one, but I don't know what else to try to fix that clock synchronization issue.

    It's Windows XP Home Edition.

EDIT: It should be noted that my mom also had Windows XP, but she decided to try Windows Vista, which led to Windows 7.

Well firstly... I would not upgrade to Vista because of a clock issue, that might be something completely unrelated to your OS. Secondly I'll tell you this, Vista isn't as bad as everyone say it is (except when it first came out) but it still has a lot of problems that are fixed in 7. So to say, 7 is what Vista should have been if Microsoft didn't rush to release it. The nice thing about the home edition like you have is that it's fairly straight forward on how to do the upgrade, just remember to back up any important files before you do.

What are your computer's specs as far as Ram/hard drive space/processor etc go? Because if they aren't remotely close to what I recommend then vista will actually run slower than XP on your machine, which I'm sure you won't want. Vista uses more memory then it should, one of the many downsides of using it. Also it's one of the things fixed in 7. If you have the option to upgrade to 7 instead then that is a good choice, but upgrading to Vista from XP probably won't do a whole lot for you whole lot performance-wise. An upgrade from XP you'll probably only notice the better file organization, search features etc. On the inside vista is technically more secure, but other than that unless if you really want the new interface or Direct X 10, then there's really no sense in upgrading UNLESS if you think you'll soon upgrade to 7 anyways. Because then the upgrade from Vista to 7 is stupidly simple.

    Hope that helps.

I see lots of typos, lol.

Anyway, I'm not sure how to check the RAM and Processor, but for hard drive space, there's currently 195 GB of space used out of the 232 GB available.

It's actually a 250 GB hard drive, so I'm not sure why it says 232 GB.

As for the clock issue, check my other thread in this forum.
Maybe you can help, because I'm stumped.

Start --> Control Panel --> System --> System Properties --> General tab

And I'll look at your other thread. Also it probably is a 250 gig HD it's just that the os takes up that much space for it to function properly.

Actually the missing space is due to two different ways that they determine a kilobyte and by extension a gigabyte. By pure metric system a kilobyte would be 1000 bytes. by computer logic a kilobyte is 2^10 (1024) bytes. So when they sell you a 250 GB hard drive they sell you the metric 250,000,000,000 bytes. When your computer reads it, it is done logically where a GB is 2^30 (1,073,741,824). When you divide that down you've got 232.83 GB as the OS reads it. Stupid I know, but that is just the way it is.

I'm not sure what your clock issue is exactly, but if you are referring to the system clock you could change it manually. They probably did some update to the online clock and since XP isn't supported anymore they didn't release an update to match.

EDIT: I'm looking at the clock issue and I doubt an upgrade would help. Be sure you want Vista outside of that because this is effectively a one way deal. It might not fix your issue and then you would be in Vista, which you may prefer. Like RvR said, it isn't the demon operating system that many people make it out to be. Just don't want you to be disappointed if you change it just for that and it doesn't help.
