For people who don't know what Natural Selection is, it is when the weak of a species dies out, and the strong of the species thrive and evolve, to better stand the conditions of being killed, by nature or other animals.

With all the vaccines and medicines I think Natural Selection can not occur in the human race, if people save the weak of the species how will the human race continue to live in the long run.

Can you explain more clearly what you are trying to say?

Natural Selection will continue to occur as long as there are causes and effects to everything.

Vaccines and medication have indeed extended the human lifespan by a great deal, but this still doesn't change the fact that some people die and others live because of inherited traits that by chance, prove more advantageous to the organism's survival, be that human or beast.

However, it's important to note that natural selection is not entirely applicable to the human race as it is to species in the wild. Natural selection is very rarely applied to humans when discussed in scientific context.

Hmmm......questions like that kind of take a little human anatomy research....which I don't like....much more interested in just watching the animals and keepin' myself healthy - hey, maybe we need to stress eating right much more...I've been thinking about becoming vegetarian.

    Natural selection will always continue.

Maybe not in humans, but in other organisms, like flies, frogs, wasps, beetles, wolves, and other animals. No matter how much you don't see it it will always be there.

Unless we can find a way to COMPLETELY counter act all foreign threats to our body, it's impossible to stop it, in my opinion.

Not all parts of the world have modern medicine.
There will always be natural selection. You are right about it: definately alot less so than it used to be, but it wont ever go away entirely.

I mean only the human race. By keeping the weak alive then the human race will die out and not have a chance to evolve.

actually bacteria and dieases are mutating now and becoming resistant to medicines and vaccines. within 100 years, medicine and vaccines will be useless so i'm sure natural selection will continue when that time comes.

Not really. There are very little 'cures' out there for diseases and illness. Most of today's modern medicine is simply a way to help prolong or increase chances of recovery.

Again, I reiterate that natural selection doesn't really apply to humans. Firstly, there's nothing wrong with wanting to keep the 'weak' alive because we as human beings (as a whole) cherish the value of human life. Secondly, saying that keeping the weak alive will not give us a chance to evolve? That's not particularly true as we human beings are becoming more and more intelligent. At first it was the discovery of fire, then someone invented the wheel. Later on, we invented the automobile, then the rocket ship--we are inventing things that constantly advance our way of living. This also pertains to medicine. Keeping the 'weak' alive isn't a big deal if our medicine is also improving as the years go by.

Your claims are a little off the mark.

well....it CAN apply to humans and it WILL once again when medicine has no effect.

True, but that will most likely never happen since medicine is always evolving like the world is.

There is no place for the 'value of human life' in the natural selection model, and thus is never applied to humans because it would make a sociopolitical statement about humanity.

Though you think that all human life is important, (I respect that) but it is a problem. As keeping the weak who take down the stronger of the species will ruin natural selection by the strong not evolving and the human race not living on for more generations.

Though the human race is unique, it can not escape nature or time as hard as it tries to.

We're doing a bloody good job so far. Death is inevitable, as all things in this universe are contingent. keep in mind that just because someone has a disease or is prone more to infection doesn't make them weak. Hell they could spawn a genius that cures all disease, or even an amazing athlete. Terry Fox had bone cancer but managed to run all across Canada. Natural selection works at minimal variables, which is why it still applies to the Animal Kingdom-- every day is kill or be killed. Because we are the highest of cognitive beings on this planet, and understand concepts and ideas we have surpassed the "kill or be killed" way of life, and moved away from genetic superiority. We work together as opposed to every man for themselves. Yes cynics will not see the world in such a way, but that just because they had their Corn Flakes with piss.

I disagree. Those who are 'stronger' won't be held back by the 'weak', as 'stronger' people won't need to seek medical help as often as those who are more susceptible to disease and illness. What you're proposing is simply letting the weak die. The only thing that will do is severely cut down the human population. Sure, that may allow us to have more natural resources per capita, but I find that entire philosophy ridiculous. I don't mean to assume, but I didn't think believers of eugenics still existed today. I find that scary.
Yes, but the natural selection model doesn't take into account medicine. It's a confounding variable that makes it redundant to apply to humans.

When I Put stronger and weaker I do mean the less resistant to factors such the elements, disease, etc. And by held back I mean breeding with people who have low resistants and will pass it on to the next generation.

The Human race could start to lose a few thousand people once in awhile, but then again Wars have been doing that for ages.

I am not a Eugenic and don't think the human race can become perfect if we design it, truthfully I don't care what happens to it, I would just like to see if it can accept if others die than its race can live on.

Evolution is much tougher than you think, my friend. Medicine only makes people more resistant to problems humans have in or out of the body body but natural selection has beat you their. Though we keep resisting normal disease, bacteria, etc, it does help bacteria evolve, when we treat an illness the body never completly destroys the problem, so the problem adapts to the 'cure' and evolves becoming resitant to that medicine and the process will repeat till the human race is destroyed unless we adapt as well, which we cant do if people breed with people who are less resistant.

And what's so wrong about that? This is one of the most eugenic statements I've read from anyone lately.
Very scary. I'll pretend you never said that.
Humans will live on anyway. I don't see the problem with this.
Yeah, that's why our medicine evolves too.
For someone who claims not to be eugenic, you sure care a great deal about which kinds of humans should procreate.

You're forgetting something. The key word is natural selection. You're talking about selective breeding of human beings, and quite frankly, I'll repeat: eugenics. Do you think wolves, beetles, toucans, etc, care at all about who they breed with? Sure, they're not intelligent enough to really isolate such criteria, but the fact is that these occurrences are natural and happen because it's how these animals behave undeniably in nature.

Is it not natural for us to try to help the weak because we can? Medicine is there because we human beings have the power and intelligence to create such things. The very concept of inventing medicine is rooted in the very same altruistic thought that instinctively goes through an animal's mind when it jumps in front of a pack of predators (outnumbered) with the intention of buying time for its herd/pack to escape harm.

The moment we humans follow this idea you profess, we're no longer dealing with natural selection. We're dealing with eugenics.

Ok, you guys do know the real reason why Adolf Hitler attacked and abused the Jews? Because he believed in Natural Selection.

Because committing genocide on a whole race of people is natural? I'm sorry, there is nothing naturally selective about that at all.

    Please stop slandering Darwin's work.

And no. Hitler believed that blonde-haired, blue-eyed people were the superior race of the world. There is absolutely no scientific basis for this claim. How is that natural selection?

    Darky, where are you!?

Trust me. There are books on this subject.

Exactly. Hitler believed that is race was better than others, almost like him thinking one species is better than another.
