    The Walking Dead became popular (both the show and the game... not Survival Instinct btw), Capcom likely saw that and thought "people would like this series a lot more if we made it darker then its predecessors." This is evident with how DR3 is less colorful then the first two games, even the blood is less colorful. And if hatok is to be believed then its overall feel will be darker too.
