Kingdom Hearts II Why everybody loves Roxas?

I think people like Roxas for the obivious reasons that he's 'cooler' or 'more badass' but I think also that it's because people can connect with Roxas more than with Sora.

I only like him over sora because roxas worse a checkered wristlet :P

Black and white are such nice colours...I still honestly want to thieve that wristlet and his rings 9sora's chain is too MEH for me to like).

Werd. I was just reminded of that... I don't care much for Roxas. A lot of people like him probably 'cause he's done with a more realistic personality. Me? Personally, I hate him. He confused me greatly. ​

 

I've always prefered Roxas over Sora when kh2 came out because:
a) Roxas is in organization XIII
b) he's not a ****** who goes around on killing sprees, killing people who really didn't do anything in my eyes
c) his hair is cooler and he's hotter
d) voiced my Jesse McCartney

and simply cause i don't like Sora

I thought everyone knew that Sora was overly happy.

I mean, hes one of those peoples who is so happy its repelling. Its difficult to be that happy, but Sora manages to pull it off.

Its unrealistic, and I could never connect with someone like that. Its unreal.

 

When I first played the game, I didn't actually like Roxas much.
Mostly because he always seemed angry and selfish.
Of course, he had some pretty good reasons, but it still turned me off to him at first.

Then, DiZ was so cruel to him. I mean, I didn't even really like Roxas, but Christ! What did Roxas do him? What warrented DiZ being so... Just, evil to him. And torturing him like he did. Anyway, that made me start to like Roxas a little more. (And start to hate DiZ.)

By the end of the game, I throughly hated DiZ didn't dislike Roxas anymore, but I didn't particularly like him, either. Was kinda indifferent to him, and still am. Maybe Days will change my mind about him.

But I seriously liked him better than Sora. =/ I really didn't like Sora in KH2. Roxas seemed more intelligent and more willing to talk and figure out what was happening instead of fight; Roxas also seemed more mature. Sora immediately decided to fight instead of ask questions, he didn't want to avoid fights. And I shouldn't have to point out Sora's maturity level.

But, mostly, I liked Roxas better because he was realistic.

Yes. Perfect. Exactly.

In KH2, Sora pukes happiness and candy and sunshine and joy and joyness. =/ "Hey guys, lets go save the univarse LOL!!!!1 =D" He only had two emotions: happy and not happy (rarely). At one point, I think he spent a total of 10 seconds sad.

Roxas reacted realistically to things. He got angry, he got depressed, he had his issues and he dealt with them the way any normal person would.

That really makes Roxas easier to empathize with than Sora, which makes him a better character, IMO.

 

Sora got mad once... when he killed Demyx. But that was a "Whats going on? Sora is mad?!?" moment... total shock... and he was mad for apparently no reason.

 

Sora wasn't mad, he was desperate. Demyx stood between him and information on Riku. After that shounen-ai scene later in the game, it's easy to see why he murdered Demyx. It was a bit justified, but only justified enough to make overkill acceptable.

And I like Roxas because he lacked everything that Sora had, and still made himself more powerful than Sora was at the time by his own two hands. Sora had LOADS of help along the way. Roxas had exactly 12. And it's pretty much a given that 11 of those didn't help unless they got sent out on a mission together, and 5 of those 11 were stationed somewhere else. Also, Roxas, is, like ICSP said, the least naive out of the bunch. Riku was really angsty at some points, and made me want to stab him a few times. He's still cool though.

 

I think is quite dumb to differentiate Sora and Roxas with dual-wielding, better clothes, etc. First off, both Sora and him dual-wield to a experienced extent (though Roxas's looks more graceful, perhaps because of the black cloak fluttering), and is been proven that Sora can kick a** just as good, considering Roxas is him. And as we've seen from 358/2 Days, Roxas also only has the Kingdom Key. While Roxas's clothes are more to normal standards, Sora's black duds are cool in themselves (and in personal opinion, I like Sora's. Just because is less plain). As for who's hot:

Do not let me bring the CGI KH2 Ending pictures and his close up while reading Kairi's letter as the light appeared. I don't care about it much since Roxas and Sora aren't my style (well, now anyway. I just to be crazy for them), though I think Sora can just as easily step up depending on looks, instead of lowering him down from Roxas. The attraction I think, comes from both their attitudes, and Roxas's is more magnetic.

Doesn't mean I still like Sora that much though :/. I honestly think he got dumber in KH2 compared to how he was in KH1. That's why when it comes to personality, Roxas is my preferred candidate (just like Naminé is compared to Kairi), and not to repeat someone else's words, I'll just requote Kiwise because we share the same thoughts and explains it perfectly:

Anyone who played KH2 could've told it that. But it's definitive fact that, by the time he left the Organization, he was extremely powerful. And could dual-wield to boot. And don't bring Days into this, because Roxas starting with only a Kingdom Key is a plot-related gameplay gimmick.

... You can't judge Sora and Roxas on looks. Hairstyles maybe, but looks, no.

... Also, for the record, liking someone for being realistic in a fantasy game is kinda... weird.

 

Sora didn't need magical clothes to dual wield. He needed -two Keyblades-. He used Riku's Keyblade at the end just fine without any Drive Form. Roxas had two Keyblades only because of his connection to Sora, Riku and Kairi. Seriously. Why do people ride that?

Roxas has the Kingdom Key probably when he appears not just for the new beginning of a game reason but also possibly because he had nothing to recount on in memories. Axel even commented when he fought Roxas that Roxas had two Keyblades. They might have appeared when he fought Riku or just prior to that because the dreams were happening to Roxas as Sora was asleep and Namine was attempting to help him. So we may see him double wielding in 358/2 Days but it makes sense it's at the end.

 

Since Repliku got here before me and answered that tidbit, I won't repeat it.

That was my shallow view of the two characters. It didn't even have to be nitpicked, honestly.

So is wrong to find some relation and understanding in a fictional character that has some realistic attributes that you find to your liking? A character that you can find a connection with? Might as well drop the development and personality altogether since is a "fantasy game".

 

Heh, I like the sarcasm at the end but I agree with this. Part of the reason I like Riku more than Sora and Roxas, but like Sora second is because of their personalities. I like all 3 but I would not if I could not find something admirable in them. We tend to attach to characters we can most feel sympathetic to or relate to in some way or another. This is also why, since we are all different, we will like some characters more than others. It is a valid point or else we would all probably not bother with RPG sorts of games and instead just play smash up games where we have nothing to care about as far as personalities and character development go. We'd also not read books etc. I.e. Harry Potter wouldn't be so popular if people could not relate to any of the characters in that either, even though both KH and HP are fantastical stories with extra things we won't see in real life.

 

Forgot about that. "SORA ANGRY! SORA KILL!" At least Roxas smashed the computer instead of killing someone. =/ Another reason why I like Roxas better than Sora.

Personally, I can't bring myself to like any character unless I can relate to them in one way or another. I really can't do that with Sora in the second game, so I don't like him much. But, that's just me, that's probably unnecessary to this discussion.

I actually like KH1/CoM Sora than the second. He might've been idealistic and naïve, but I found him much more likeable and admirable in the first ones. I don't know why, but he appeared so strong to me in mentality and in his beliefs.

 

I never really liked him much, but I liked him a lot better in KH1/CoM than in KH2. (Was pretty much indifferent to him in the first game. And I haven't actually played CoM.) For the exact same reason. How funny....

 

Why is it bad to be realistic?

Roxas is realistically written... realistic characters are better then unrealistically happy ones...

I mean, Cloud is one of the most popular video games characters of all time... and he is hardly happy go lucky...
