Another reason could be Marluxia thought he was a better leader, so he decided to take ownership of the Organization.

 

Well his main objective was to take control of Sora and the Keyblade. What could he have accomplished with that:
1. The same plan of Xemnas a.k.a.Kingdom Hearts.
2. Overthrow and eliminate the Organization.

 

He didn't exactly choose to overthrow the Organization, he wanted to take leadership of the Org and get control over the keyblade.

 

I've got an idea, but It'll just add to the pile of other ideas you guys have made.

Marluxia probably was just full of himself and saw him better as a leader and not a follower; going after Xemnas' power (like what Reppy said) was probably also a goal of his.

 

It's basically what everyone else has said. Marluxia was ambitous and wanted leadership of the Organization, which he wouldn't really hesitate to pick off a few of his fellow members to reach his goal. He wasn't going to have the whole Organization "eliminated", though, because then he wouldn't have an Org. to lead.

Marluxia mentions several times that he wants control of the Keyblade, which he believes will make him even more powerful then he already was. He thought the Keyblade would make him invincible.​

 

Well, you have to admit.

Anyone who has another different sort of weapon has yet to lose to that thing.

What I'm wondering, is what was Marluxia's full scale of the plan. It had many flaws. Considering that Roxas was there, unless he thought he could rally enough people to fight him if Roxas would not agree, and then take care of Xemnas himself with other people, I definitely don't know how he was going to do this. His plans weren't as good as he believed. Larxene alone isn't enough to help. I still wonder why the girl joined him in the first place, because every time a scene with those two in the same room, they were always distant, a respecful one, but a distance nonetheless, and never really spoke to each other as much as they should. They appeared cold to me. Maybe behind the scenes with the plotting, yet, considering they were partners, someone you trust, you would think they would be more talkative when concerning one another. Or show the viewers that they are. I hope the new game covers that more better.

What is the difference. Seriously. Chossing to overthrow the Oranization and get control of the Sora and his Keyblade (what I said) and he wanted to take leadership of the Org and get control over the keyblade (what you said) are the same thing. But yeah they said in the game "He plotted to overthrow the Organization."

 

I think Marluxia also had an idea to get the Organization in order to get the keyblade. That's probably one of the reasons.

I think it's bcuz Marluxia liked the idea of being a leader. Or maybe he is just power hungry. And he probably promised Larxene a higher rank if she joined him.

 

It's simple..he wanted power and also wanted to be the leader of the Organization. But in the end..he was defeated =/ xD

 

This thread has a pretty obvious answer. He wanted to take over the Organization because he thought he as better and stronger than other, which he was by the way. Also he thought he was better than number 11 so he might have wanted to go up in rank. I think the first theroy is most likely.

 

He wanted power and control most likely.

Or Xemnas insulted his hair.

My guess is what everybody said so far, Marluxia got obsessed with power, but maybe wants to take control of the keyblade and fight Xemnas for power with it. Or maybe Marluxia doesn't want to get his heart back after all.

I'm joking, I'm joking. But it must be for power. I mean, Marly was already assigned to be leader of Castle Oblivion. Kinda natural for him to want more power.
