Why do people hate the idea of an Anime Club?

Personally, I don't hide the fact that I'm in Anime Club. If someone thinks I'm "uncool" because of it, then they're not the kind of person I'd like to hang out with anyways.

I've heard that Anime is considered more nerdy on the East coast than the West coast, so that might explain things...

Yeah, I live in the East Coast, the more cooler thing is to get '****ed up' and partying all the time.
Eh, Anime kept me going for my middle school years, but now I'm not really into showing off my talents or hobby for Anime.
The kids I only really think who like anime are the Band kids, and that's because they wear InuYasha shirts, and other popular anime jackets and such.
I actually own an InuYasha shirt, but I don't wear it in public.

Well anime club is the only club I'm in and would consider joining (except for quiz bowl because that's the ****) so I don't hide it. xD

Some people think that any club is lame to join. I really don't mind anime clubs or any clubs for that matter which aren't well, clubs that have themes that are harmful to others such as racist clubs.

There are people who would join an anime club though so if you want to start one off, don't let the words of a few discourage you. What's 'in' to them is not going to be what's 'in' to you. Do what you like and hopefully you get some people together who want it and the club turns out fine. There will always be naysayers to entertainment ideas. Have fun and don't worry about them.

I don't see any problem with an Anime Club, but the reason why others hate it could be that they simply can't relate or care to understand why people do love anime. There are many clubs out there so why not have an Anime Club? I'm all for it. Try not to care about what other people think since it shouldn't matter.

Amby, you've inspired me. When I get into High School, I'm going to tryto start an Anime club. Even though it's pretty dorky here on the East Coast, I know a few people that love anime and manga as much as I do.

We've been over the benefits of being in the club, can someone please give me a list of ways they benefit from being "cool"?

That's a bit harder to describe. "Cool" is defined by who's judging. In my mind, anime fans are cool, especially if they like the more diverse and lesser known animes, not just Naruto, Bleach, and Pokemon. (No offense.) In other people's minds, you're "cool" if you watch football. But to others, football is considered lame and boring. Some people think "cool" is jumping off the top of the soda machines at school. To some people like myself, that's not cool, that's stupid.

In short, "cool" is in the eye of the beholder, as are the benefits of such a position.

i dont hate anime clubs, its just from my own experiences that most of the people who attend the anime club in my school are usually narutard's or people who just like the really popular anime and they say 'kawaii'

Me neither. I think it would be a good way for anime/manga fans to socialize and stick together.

Oddly, In New York you see a few anime fans out and about with shirts and jewerly showing there proud of anime. Though I do think that the mainstream anime gives us a bad rap when were trying to sow acutal good and serious anime movies/shows (I.E-Revolutonary Girl Utena, Naussica in the Valley of the Wind, ETC.)

I think the reason some people hate the idea of an anime club is because it is considered the "not cool thing to do"

I.E Anime = "Outsider" thing to do.

So therefore: Anime Club = Outsider club.

That's my guess judging on how my school goes by.

Oh, I do like more diverse ones. Bokurano, Narutaru, NGE, Serial Experiements Lain, Gurren Lagann, Elfen Lied and Code Geass. But none/few of the more serious anime are ported over, because it doesn't appeal to kids.

But you didn't answer the questions. We've been over why watching anime is beneficial. Why is being cool beneficial?

I would think that people feel the attractiveness and need for more friends and people to rely on.

I wouldn't know the difference, because according to me and the people I hang out with, watching anime IS cool.

As I said in the other thread, it's a haven for Japanophiles and Weaboos who try to pretend that they're Asian and proclaim Japan to be some kind of supreme country over everyone else, while fantasizing over their uncreative Naruto fanfics and saying stuff like "kawaii" or "baka" because they think speaking Japanese instantly makes them cool.

On the other hand, it's also a place for people who have a genuine passion for the Japanese art form to discuss series that are infinitely more creative and unique than what's left on western children's networks, such as Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and Nickolodeon, that used to be great and have awesome cartoons, but have gone the way of milk and turned to crap.

So in other words, it really depends on the people who are in the clubs if you'll enjoy it or hate it.
