For the record I didn't want to just switch to XF without warning either, but the security concerns we had at the time made it necessary. I don't want to get into why just because it's a very sore & misunderstood subject that I would rather not dig up again, but ordinarily something as big as this would have been announced well in advance.
While it is true that they're certainly capable of replying to these things, the effort to move to XF was, ultimately, spearheaded by me (although the staff did know about it and were consulted about it). While Jayn and Plums have gotten really familiar with the system in the months since they were promoted, I'm probably the best poised to talk about its advantages, give perspective on why the decision was made, and explain what it's like to administrate a vB board vs. a XF board.
I know I can't please Jiku but I do think it's still important to at least reply to these things and try to help people understand. As you have said, one of the problems on this site (which goes back years and years) is the lack of transparency & union between the site and the staff (though I can tell you it is a hell of a lot better than it is on a lot of other sites, where the staff are basically a non-presence). Trying to understand the nature of people's complaints and clearing up misunderstandings is a step in the right direction, though. Normally I would encourage people to post in the feedback forum just because I feel that promotes a) more productive suggestions and b) an atmosphere not so inclined to bickering, but I'm also not going to just sit by and let people trash the site without at least trying to respond to them. I do agree that these things get needlessly personal, this thread included, and I am sorry about that: I'm human and it's quite disheartening to see people disrespect things I and the rest of the staff have put a lot of work into. If after explanations and appeals someone still doesn't come around then there are far more productive things for me to spend my time on. I don't really intend upon replying to Jiku any further in this thread.

NO I'M NOT BACK. SO DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP.

This sounds remarkably familiar actually. When the programmer for a site I mod on moved the site over to its new format/server, not even the site owner knew. Well, they knew it was going to happen but as they didn't know exactly when. And so they couldn't tell the mods who would then pass it along to the userbase.

So when it did happen, rather unexpectedly, everyone got upset. Even with the owner and staff, myself included kept telling them that we didn't know and that it was [NAME WITHHELD]'s doing. And to be fair [redacted] was a bit of a jerk anyway. He'd disappear for weeks at a time and he was pocketing the site's earnings for his own use. Hats, sunglasses, a prom dress for his sister. If you purchased anything, it was going to him and not the site it was meant for.

I'm just saying that don't take it out on the staff. More often than not, they're volunteering their time and effort to be here. They aren't getting paid. I'm abused and I get paid for it. [[And I'm not focusing solely on you Nate. Just saying.]]

That's cute. Think what you want, I'm not getting off your case.

    Then why are you complaining?

    Then why are you complaining?

    Then why are you complaining?

You seem to have this attitude that if you've ever got a problem, you have to voice it. That complaining never happens enough around here, and anyone who tries to shut you up is just censoring the site or trying to make it a happy funland or whatever. Sure, I'll grant that criticisms move a system forward. Why are they always yours though? Why do you constantly feel the need to be a wet blanket? Have you ever considered the fact that maybe you're going a little bit overboard?

You can care about whatever you want, it's just the making a federal case out of it that drives me nuts. You really think bitching in a thread is gonna get you what you want?

I'm loathe to give this a dignified response ('Cause yeah, saying "suck a dick" as a serious comeback isn't embarrassing at all), but no, I don't really care enough. I reiterate: What do you need it for? I never once used the funcntion and I've barely noticed it missing.

You're acting like a petulant child, I hope you know that.

That's absurd. You're being absurd. And as a result, you may never see any of your complaints addressed.

No, I am gonna be a prick about it, because you were. All you're doing is spreading your misery to everyone else; you don't even want the problem fixed anymore, if you did you wouldn't be on a tirade like this. If you sincerely think this is furthering your cause, well, maybe I've respected you too much all these years. Your complaints cease to be legitimate the moment you have to make somebody feel bad to voice them, end of story.

Then accept that you're short-sighted and don't try to tell people how to run the forum. You're not giving your personal feedback; you're making angry complaints and whining that things weren't immediately changed to your liking. That's unfair to everyone who disagrees with you. And there are a lot of them, if you haven't noticed.

"Called" impossible? You really think staff are just lying to you to get your goat, don't you?

You're right, it is just you. Or did you miss the joke about all the error screens we used to get on vB? Looks like seniority isn't everything.

Believe me, I'm the last person you have to tell. I quit my last forum around '07 or so, never went back. There are so many worse places in the world that sometimes it just makes me laugh what people have to complain about around here. 'Course other times I get riled up myself because of things I'm used to having that are denied. But yeah, I have noticed the changes and I for one am appreciative.

That's ok, I'm currently in the process of making it way too personal as well :L /tags u out I GOT DIS

I'm not a nice person. You know that, that's probably why you dislike me, yeah I don't particularly like you either, but that's not related. But this particular thing isn't personal for me. I don't like the site as it is now. I have my grievances and issues and I will from time to time voice them because I do really feel quite fed up with it at times and it'll be like that forever. But like I said, it's not personal problems I have with anyone related and I don't hold that against you or any of the staff as staff or as people. I think you've done about as well as can be expected of anyone in your position and credit where credit is due, even though you probably can't ever make me happy because I have impossibly strange standards you're making other people, the majority of other people, happy. A lot of people that stood by me at the beginning holding the line actually don't mind or even like xenforo now. That was you and the rest of the staff, you succeeded. From any perspective that's a win, you did well. I'm sure you get that and so on, but I feel like it bears saying. So my point is, I'm going to complain about things I hate and maybe you feel like it's an attack or an aggressive stance, but it's not. It's my personal problem and I'll deal with it my personal way so don't let it bother you. Just keep doing what you're doing.

I've actually greatly admired you for some time now. Especially since you're one of the only people who's apologized to me for offending me with a joke. That was pretty nice as far as things go. Maybe you're nicer than you think.

Well that would've been nice to know :v

I don't believe you. I don't believe you'd resort to sardonic comments if you weren't at least a little hurt by something a staffer said to you, or someone who snubbed your complaints at some point. I can't bring myself to believe you have no emotional investment in this. But even if you don't, quite a few of us do. Not necessarily by choice, but because it's our lot in life; a lot of people are attached to this place, even if they don't like everybody or everything about it, but we all have to live with each other. I'm begging you, take care what you say and how you say it.

You can say that, but as long as I'm beneath 100% I'm gonna keep trying. It's in my nature. If you dislike that about me, then I suppose you don't have to suffer through it.

But it's not just your problem. You're making it other people's problem as well. Besides, how can you say in one breath that you and a lot of others were "holding the line," and in the next say there's no plan of attack or aggression? You're making it into a war. You may not realize it, but you are. And I'm sick of fighting wars with a goddamn keyboard on a goddamn forum for Kingdom Hearts. There aren't a lot of times where I'll wittingly say "Calm the fuck down," because I believe in the power of anger and passion, but for fucksakes we're all teens to college kids chatting about how our days went. We don't need to give each other any more grief than I KNOW we all have to deal with on a daily basis. I'm not asking you to change, I'm just asking you to practice the grace and respect I know you're capable of—if not respect for others, then at least respect for yourself.

THERE THAT ONE WAS RELATIVELY NICE AND CALM

CAN Y'ALL KINDLY STFU ABOUT CALMING DOWN NOW

Hell, i've changed most on the site, and it's kind of for my better, and maybe not everyone else's in particular. But i've been trying to work with what i've got, i've learned a lot of things and i'm happy where I am. Honestly, I just try to not let the internet be such a serious thing for me anymore, something I worry over and fear of. Change is therefore good, for me.

This particular change was sudden for two reasons. One, the security as has been noted. If we had told everyone about it, chances are another attack would've taken place before we could make the change, delaying the eventual move and potentially bring down the site. And two, it was suppose to be a good surprise. You don't tell someone what you're going to get them for Christmas, and we kinda hoped it would be enjoyed because of the surprise factor. Reactions were disappointing to say the least, but we kept on working.
Otherwise, feedback and assistance allow debating of issues and allows ideas to be proposed. And many features implemented are announced beforehand, the site usually doesn't make big changes anyway. the like system revamp was discussed and when I left still being tweaked by staff, so it all goes somewhere and any changes staff know are going to happen are usually passed on to us.
Basically, it's ok, nothing has blown up yet, we're still here, still talking, we'll live through this, together.

Of course, they could all be dicks now, it's been a number of months for me.

Aaaaand unfortunately, this concludes tonight's impassioned episode of KH-Vids.Net. Stay tuned for the next episode, where Plums calls Misty a turd and she makes him read all of her Star Wars fanfiction!
