Well they're completely different situations; in the first one, Hermione was fearing expulsion from Hogwarts, which would essentially kill her connection to the Wizarding World (non-magical parents + no real friends at that point). In the second one however, Hermione is upset because there's a pretty decent chance that this is going to be the last birthday that Harry gets to celebrate. The last one, while funny, is actually a bit tragic, imo. His last chance to celebrate at all, really. She's looking out for Harry's well being, while in the first one, it's more of her own. So her priorities become her friend's happiness. /ilikeharrypottertoomuch
