Yep, another one of those thread that have no real meaning, but if the same states from the first civil war, had another civil war, in your opinion, who would win?
Easily Captain America's side. (lol...) But seriously, I don't think we would have a reason to go to Civil War. And things are a lot different than before. We were fighting over slavery before, now we've got an African American president. Besides this, the United States today is more "united" than it was back then.
Well this would not be entirely plausible set in modern days, because of the inclusion of more states. However, if you were to be interested on what my take is concerning a second civil war, I suggest you look up JERICHO (the tv series not the game).
I agree that we have no reason to go into a civil war, but the question is based on what if. If we had a civil war, would the confederacy or the union be victorious?
Honestly it would still be more focused on the motive and the complete point of the war in such. The general opinions and ideas of both the North and South seemed to have changed considerably, and thus unless there is another motive for this second Civil War I wouldn't exactly see how we could properly and completely translate a conflict as such of the first Civil War into a re-enactment of this sort. And of course it would depend on an amount of other factors. People of this time aren't as focused towards war than they were some years ago, and the general relations between the North and South have eased these past years. Also, as Shades stated earlier the inclusion of more states would pose a differential problem of a complete modern war stylized in that of the first Civil War. I would say it would be more likely if the Southern states actually vote to cede from the United States than declare an all-out war. Using this sort of non-conflict scenario I would doubt the South would actually wish to cede from the United States and in a sense the Union - or the United States as a whole - would "win".
Actually it very much answers the question. Even if the Confederacy did win and slavery prevailed it was a dying industry due to the cotton gin and the fact that cotton literally destroyed the soil it was grown on. It probably would have hurt the American economy anyway. Slavery would have been forced to end by then.
You need to remember... the weapon technology has changed quite a bit in the last 150 years. >_> If you've studied the Civil War, you would know it was all Napoleonic warfare. We haven't used that type of fighting in many, many years. Frankly, it would be impossible to have a Civil War with the aircraft and nuclear power of today. So... if we were all suddenly drafted and only had Minié rifles to use? Probably the Confederacy.
Well, the basic reasons the North won haven't changed all that much in the intervening years. The North would still control the original capitol (huge morale boost), the North would still have the major factories (I think) (like Detroit, etc) (what factories remain in the US, that is... :yelling:)... I guess the deciding factor might be which way the Western states swing. Remember, they didn't even exist for the most part in the original Civil War. Also, who would the international community side with? That would indeed depend on the issues being fought over. Me being something of a biased observer, I would say the North would win again, but that's only because I was born in Wisconsin...
I live in Massachusetts but.. if there was another civil war.. I wouldn't care who wins.. I would just leave the country..
Obviously the North, because we have Alaska and that's where we are hiding Metal Gear. But seriously, I'd have to say it's too unlikely to even happen. With the still on-going racism(Yes, I know it's everywhere, not just the South), the North would have a slight advantage in the number of soldiers. But then again, we also have illegal aliens coming in from the South, so that would also affect this. There are just too many factors for us to account for.
