Kingdom Hearts II Who wanted to Kill Rai!?

What was your reaction When you first played KH II and heard Rai say "ya know" after every single sentence?
I was screaming "Shut up!!" But I was dying of laughter at the same time.

 

Na, I loved him. In a weird way. :)

It was like Axel's 'Got it memorized,' though less catchy.

 

Yeah, that "Ya know" thing in every sentence got annoying, very annoying. >.>

 

Just go watch a bunch of animes (preferably the japanese versions) and you'll notice many of the characters have a catchfrase of some sort.
Such as in Naruto, the main character constantly says "Dattebayo" and Shikamaru "Mendokze" (Troublesome) and there's also Axel with his "Got it memorized?"

So I don't mind, Rai's just following a japanese tradition:D

 

I agree, but when those things don't work in another culture, they're better off leaving them out. That's why I feel they should've left Naruto's "dattebayo" out of the dub, instead of having him say "better believe it!" all the damn time.

Similarly with 'ya know'; it was better off they take it out; it doesn't work in English, it's like you said, a cultural thing in Japanese speech--it only works there, in this context.

I've played KH2 in both the JP and English, it flowed far better in the japanese, obviously, and it made much more sense in the context of what was being spoken. The English version tried to mimic it, but it failed miserably and the 'added lines' seemed to mean nothing; forced lines.

I will admit, though, I got a kick out of the NA Pence's line when he made fun of Rai when he was telling Sora about the count of the stairs thing. The way he screamed "YA KNOW" was so funny.

 

I know! Pence said the "YA KNOW" and I couldn't stop laughing. Literally 10 minutes of giggle-looping. Haha.


Anyway, I didn't find it that annoying. I found it funnier and more on the entertaining side rather than annoying, actually. It was done so horribly I never got tired of it.

 

I think Rai has the "Y'know?" hick ups. But still it's funny I like how he is xD
