You know, I've never really thought about that. It completely didn't cross my mind that sales for used games don't go back to the developer. And it's a fact that EBGames (since I don't really shop at Gamestop) makes most of its sales on used games--except for highly anticipated titles on release dates. Definitely some food for thought. I don't have an answer either.
Good point Wow, never thought about it that way... and... I'm don't really have an opinion on it either as of yet... I haven't traded in a game EVER (But I will for God Of war 2) so I don't really know .
You know, I dont agree because all the 'used goods dealers'(in this case, EB and Gamestop) do is provide a median for what people do anyways. Honestly, before these places 'popped up' how many of you sold games to your friends, or made trades with them for other games? Hell I know I did growing up, someone wanted a game that I had and beat it, they would ask if they could have it, and as an example I will show this: I had Chrono Trigger on SNES I beat it A friend wanted it I said give me ten dollars and Final Fantasy 3(once again, this is referring to SNES cartridges, so now this would be called FF6) He gave me the money and a game I made profit People do it anyways, these stores simply make it easier for them. their prices for used games generally aren't unreasonable, considering everything but look at it this way You buy concert tickets at Ticketmaster.com, they charge you the price of the ticket + a convenience fee. That is essentially what EB and Gamestop do, they provide a service for gamers to conveniently trade their games. There is nothing wrong with it IMO
Like libregkd said, when people sell games to their friends, most of the time you don't sell the game any higher than its full price. Mostly because that's just common sense, and your friend will probably will never agree to buy a used game for a higher price than a brand new one he could buy through retail. EB and Gamestop... don't do that. They buy your games for atrociously low prices in comparison to what they sell them back for. KH2 over at my local EB sells for 39.99CAD, the preowned ones sell for 34.99CAD. And they buy it from you for about 10-15CAD. In the end, if the trend of used video-game sales continues to increase in popularity, the time window for game developers to actually make returns for their products will get smaller and smaller. The moment people start returning these new titles (and at my local EB, two weeks after FFXII's release, there were already 12 preowned limited edition ones in stock), the chance of a brand new manufactured title to be purchased becomes less and less of a possibility.
I had that happen to my SoC too, I bought it from Wal Mart and it was covered in scratches to the point it didnt work though, factories arent perfect and things like that do happen alot...
I hate their trade system.... I tried selling my Super Mario Sunshine game (beat many times)..... I bought it for $20, they only offer........$6!!!! I said some impolite things then walked off with my game...... But, I still shop there.
I never trade my games at EB Games because they are just a bunch of bloody a**holes. I traded 3 games and only got $15 dollars in profit. I check on Ebay, curious to know how much I could get. I could have got at least another $40 dollars worth of cash if I sold it on Ebay. Now, seriously, that's just bull****. Also, what really ticked me off is when I accidentally left my hat at the counter, I saw the exact same game I traded in for $25...and I was paid only $5. Don't trade over games cause you'll get more money if you sold it 'elsewhere' and by 'elsewhere' I mean the 'Internet'. Darkness, they are killing gaming because they make a large amount of profit by second-hand games and not new releases. Except for a few exceptions like when Halo II came out or World of Warcraft. TIP: Whenever you purchase a new DVD/video game, check to make sure it's in good condition. I always do this and as a result, every single game I got from EB is in good condition because I actually went back and demanded for a good copy.
