I agree.

Even in their personal diaries, they call each other friends, with no romantic tendencies in any possible way. This goes for AkuRoku as well. They even spoke about girls.

Roxas is even too unstable to wonder what the hell having a girlfriend means in the game.

 

To answer this let us point out the fact that Roxas has no idea what love is nor does he understand it...if Xion is considered similar then it's probably safe to assume that 'it' has no idea either what love is either...but heck let us take a smack at all pairings suggested here:

Xion x Riku - Pretty much same reason as above...if Riku had any connection to Xion what so ever I see it being purely his desire to

Xion x Axel - would never happen...he barely tolerates her presences as is, hell he seems offended as hell whenever Roxas mentions Xion even stating in a dairy entry that he doesn't understand Roxas's bizarre 'friendship' with Xion. I mean his face is priceless when Roxas stated that he'd be bringing Xion to their usual spot up on the clock tower during Axel's absence prior to day 71. Yes yes he develops some sort of connection to 'it' as the story progresses but mainly because of:
A) Roxas...mainly this but-
B) It'd be his job to axe Xion if 'it' betrayed the organization, eliminating traitors seems to be a job he seems to distaste more and more as the story developes

Xion x Namine - ehhh...well I'm kind of for this ship simply because Namine seems to be the one reaching out to Xion and vis versa...it's mutual in this one.

Xion x Kairi - they never even meet each other and the fact that Xion's look is based on a memory of Kairi does not seem to justify this pairing in the least in fact it supports Sora x Kairi more than anything else

Xion x any other organization member - the only one I see this being any where near relevant might be Xemnas but other than that...no just no...why you might ask? Xigbar and Demyx make fun of her and let's face it they're not exactly nice about it...especially Xigbars nic-name that he gives 'it'. Saix treats Xion for what 'it' is nothing more than a doll, and the others have nothing to do with Xion at all, if they can help it.

 

None of them can love. They're nobodies. no emotions. she's not even a real nobody at that.

 

I think XionXNamine is the most likely. And thats not just Yuri fanboy talking either:

Xion is a manifestation of Sora's memories, Namine is a manifestation of Kairi and knows the most about memories.

She is also the most understanding of Xion, so if Xion had survived I think something could have developed.

In a way, this pairing is actually canon because

Roxas absorbed Xion and now has romantic feelings hinted at for Namine, so technically Xion does too.

It's already been stated by a Nomura interview that Roxas did not absorb Xion. He just inherited her Keyblade after she died. I don't know where the component memories went, though.

 

I kinda hope that there won't be another corny love story...

Namine seeing as Roxas = Sora and Xion = sora's memories so technically wouldn't she have her own memories from Roxas and Roxas falls for namine -whew- in other words, she loves who Roxas loves, and Roxas loves Namine (obv)

Since Xion is a replica of Sora and she just looks like a girl because of his strongest memory, Kairi, that would make her arguably male or genderless.

Regardless, I just never imagined her paired with anyone really, because of how I knew the plot would turn out.

Axel detests Xion. Why, then, would he insist on bringing her back when she basically tells him to destory her? If his job is to destroy traitors, and he didn't care for her at all, he would have done so. ((See examples Vexen and Marluxia in COM.)) Xemnas didn't let Axel in on the entire plan (possibly BECAUSE of his actions at Castle O), so it's not because of that that Axel insisted on bring Xion back.

 

I don't think she really loves anyone.
She won't like Axel, Riku is her enemy, Roxas likes her, I believe, but I doubt it would happen. A girl? Seriously? Square Enix probabley won't have that.

I'll give you a few ideas as to why a lot of people think that way:

If you play the game, and see his reactions and expressions, Axel's attitude with Xion it's quite questionable. He's really rough and crude with her (in Japanese, Axel is actually really rude with his words, even to his superiors, more so when pissed of. It's hard to translate over to English, but think Japanese "rudely" in how we say, "bitch", and "bullshit", if we need a comparison as to how badly it is), I noticed. Maybe if it wasn't for the fact that we've seen how much Axel cares for Roxas, we wouldn't have this problem about their interaction. But, we do. And it is a problem. For example, he at least tries to be patient with Roxas despite his temper starting to flare, until he can't take it. When he's talking to Xion in front of the mansion, actually, whenever he confronts her, it's like he didn't attempt it at all. He starts yelling at her. There's seriously such a difference with how he treats Xion and Roxas. I'm not an AkuRoku, but even from a friendship standpoint, Axel's much more compassionate, and so dedicated to the boy as someone with the title of a friend should. He argued and waited a few days not to annihilate Roxas when he was memory wiped as much as possible in KH2. He already said in his diary/secret report in Days that he won't let Roxas get erased no matter what the cost as well, yet with Xion, he was already debating on whether to kill her (no matter what the problem is, or who she is, he said himself also in the Secret Report a friend is a friend and Xion is Xion). In other words, he chose Roxas over her quite easily. Granted, he couldn't kill her, but he toyed with the idea for a "best friend". Then comes how sad he was over Roxas just simply leaving the Organization (compared to Xion's death. WTF? He didn't easily accept Roxas disappearing into Sora forever. But, all he does knowing Xion will die, is...lay in bed and be in thought?). Then how upset, not angry, not blown over in fury, upset he was when trying to get Roxas to return and realize he isn't the best friend he knew. Cue angst. Even when they hang out, unless Xion usually says something over to him, he mostly talks and directs his conversations to Roxas.

Sorry to say, but there is a stark contrast that needs to be looked over for someone like Axel to label Xion a "best friend", because he sure doesn't act like one the way he does to his other best friend.

I'm not saying Axel hates Xion. You can't really hate someone you've spent time with, and who's done nothing to you. And he does care for her in some form. But, if it wasn't for Roxas, whose idea it was to eat ice cream together as three in the clock tower in the first place (and you should see Axel's face when he returns from Castle Oblivion, and how Roxas admits he's been eating ice cream with someone else. And he gets irritated sometimes in the beginning when Roxas spends too much time with Xion to add in), Axel would not have bat an eyelash over her or bother to speak with her. He definitely prefers and has favoritism over Roxas better. I've experienced myself in how he feels, as I've had my best friend, and then suddenly someone comes to join in our duo, and they begin to spend more time together and whatnot. I don't know whether that played a part, or if he's just frustrated, yet, the friendship between him and Xion is not that strong. That much is true.

And honestly, Roxas is perhaps the only connection that actually keeps them together.

Oh, and bringing Xion back was actually an order, from what I understand in those bubble text cut scenes.
