I much, much prefer Kingdom Hearts 1 and Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix to the other titles. I don't understand why trolls people are coming to this thread just to say they disagree. If you don't agree, that's great. Good for you. But this thread is for the people who think that KH1 is the pinnacle of the series.

KH2 is all flash and no substance. I don't see why anyone respects it at all (The Final Mix fixes tons of problems, however). Almost everyone I've seen that whines about the KH1 gameplay being "clunky" was just bad at it, and I suspect that the aforementioned people in this thread are of no exception.

Improved upon? How so? KH1 didn't have perfect gameplay, but it is easily better than KHII also known as "press X the game"

Well, the title IS a question, which means others can answer as well...

Personally, I do not believe KHI is the best, like others have said, the battle system, clothing set, et cetera.
Kingdom Hearts II was the first KH game I got, and it is indeed my...I suppose, second favorite, with Birth by Sleep being my all time favorite. The first in the series isn't quite as... "Oh god, why did that happen. Why. Why. Why." as Birth by Sleep is... With all the plot twists, and story explanations.
Especially seeing various SomeBodies, like Lea, Isa, and the like. When I saw Lea, I pretty much nearly exploded with how awesome it was to see him, and it kind of explained why Axel took a liking to Roxas - He reminded him of his past friend, Ventus.

I can see what you mean, but I suppose different people just have different tastes. For those that maybe prefer a more challenging and original experience, KH1 is the way to go while those who prefer the deeper emotional storyline they go for KH2 (or whatever other aspects you can think of). I am liking KH1 now the more I play it but I haven't played it to excess like with KH2 as I got extremely irritated with some of the boss battles (but now that I have improved my fighting style I can play it with ease).

I like to think KH2 is an improved upon version of it's former game as it has much more variety and it just feels more grown up as all the characters seem a lot older. I suppose it's just a difference in opinion.

Hated KH1. Sure, I enjoy a challenge every once in a while, but I don't like getting my ass kicked 10 times by the same boss on Normal. Also, the worlds were a huge pain to go through. I got trapped in Atlantica and I could never find a way out.

What it lacks in gameplay it makes up for story. I appreciated the Disney mixes, like how they were the main villains, and I noticed they pretty much got brushed aside as the series went by. I personally don't have a problem with it. I want to see how Nomura can make their own story without Disney. They showed that in BBS, my all-time favorite KH, and I think it was definitely a step in the right direction, as well as the the Gameplay for it. I appreciate the "classic" feel KH1 provides, but its not enough for me to play it.

I think one of the only reasons I really like KH1 more is because of the nostalgia factor. I got Kingdom Hearts back when I was 11 when it first came out and I remember it being one of my favorite games. When you're 11 you don't really notice the flaws of video games nearly as much, so to me it was the greatest thing in the universe.

I wasn't until I was older that I saw how flawed the game actually was. Even still, there is a huge feeling of nostalgia I get from playing the first game. However flawed it is, it will always be the best to me because it was the start of the series. The original game is always the most sentimental to me.

Well, I never played KH1, but I did watch a walkthrough on it. *shot*

Anyway, the story of KH1, to me, was always the best of all the games. It just seemed to be so sweet and innocently simple compared to complex plots like BBS and Days had. There's also the fact that this game emphasized actual growth for the characters; Riku had to learn his wrongs, Sora had to learn to depend on others, and Kairi had to learn how much Sora really cared for her.

Despite the later titles being flashy, KH1 was really the milestone that set that all up, and is special in its own way.

The platforming. It was so much fun swinging on the vines in Deep Jungle and figuring out where to go in Atlantica was a joy as well. The difficulty was to me much more in your face than KH2. Chernabog kept making you fly away quickly or be punished by his fire attack. I still have not beaten Sephiroth on the easiest mode where in KH2 I have dominated him on Proud. The second battle against Riku was also one of the most fun I have had in a boss fight. The music, Forze del Male, is my favorite piece from the game and I can just picture its epicness within my mind. The story was also much simpler and it left a good cliffhanger ending while the secret ending made you giddy for the future games.
