    I used my common sense and started thinking.
    If you could actually shrink someone, would that make their atoms smaller?
    If their atoms got smaller, then how could they breath in air?
    Since the air is not shrunk and they are, wouldn't they die from lack of breath? :/

    wow....never thought of it that way.... :shocked: good obsrvation....but....i dont think the air atoms are THAT big....i mean, if about an ounce and a half is like 26 million air atoms, they cant be too big....

    good observation though

    Good question... *ponders* I wonder if all atoms are the same size? But even if that is so, they are still big enough I belive to be able to breath the air around them, seeing as they're still able to be seen by the parents and atoms are incredibly small.

    WHOA *Pulls Gamefreak back* going abit to deep there. Its a fiction it really does not need to make complete sense.

    Well when it comes down to the science of it, I don't think they're small enough to be affected by the size of the oxygen and hydrogen atoms. They are small, but I don't know...

    I'd imagine it'd become at least a LITTLE harder to breathe.

    The atoms themselves wouldn't get smaller as such. Either atoms would be 'bleed' off so the person would be made of less atoms but in the same ratio/proportion or they would simply occupy a smaller space i.e. become compressed.

    Really it's probably impossible, although while you sleep you get taller by like an inch because your muscles relax and then when you wake in the morning you shrink, does that count? :P

    Yeah, I know it's fiction but I wonder how that would work if they actually could do it! O.o

    They would be made up of less atoms, not smaller atoms.

    Do you think a child is made of as many atoms as an adult? No. But are they smaller? No again.

    Your atoms would not shrink. The amount of them would. You would be able to breathe.

    Basically what I am saying is that the air atoms would not be too big, because your atoms would not grow smaller, they would just decrease in count.

    No. Flat Out awnser. You won't have less atoms, they can't shrink though, only become more dense or less dense, as in spread a part. If such things happened other animals wouldn't be alive, but very good observations. It would shrink the heart and other parts which would Probably constrict you like a python would, due to the size. That's why Tea-cup Chihuahua's have so many heart problems, due to small size. Insects have extra hearts, and other body parts to surevive, a little longer.

    Still Though, good observations. But no to atoms, and yes to lack of oxygen. xD

    After thinking, I concluded that the machine just stole their atoms and left some to make them smaller.

    1. I <3 that movie

    2. I just think the amount of atoms in your body would decrease, but acourding to Boyles theory, K=PV so the Constant temperure would have to equal the pressure X Volume, and because the volume is smaller, the pressure would have to increase, there for at leasting making it a little harder to breathe, if not impossible.

    I think it this was possible, it would have already been done.

    I heard something on either Animal Planet or the DIscovery channel about if people really could be shrunk down to that size, they'd have, like, the intellegence of a rodent... XD;

    Cells don't like shrinking into smaller cells, so in order to shrink, you'd just have les cells than before...

    Less cells = less brain cells = lower intellegence. =\

    So, even if they couldn't breath, they'd go insane and, like, eat each other or something. XD

    Good throught though! XD Never thought of them SUFFOCATING... O.o;

    That makes perfect sense, I always did think about it in a way, if you did become smaller, you might get stupider. :/

    well, they were shrunk down to the size of an insect, and an insect breathes, right? so i dont imagine they would have a problem. or were they much smaller than an insect? still, i dont think the molecules in the air would be that big... infact they are quite small.

    and on a side note, i love your line of thought there. i would have just watched the movie and laughed at the funny parts....

    No, actually all atoms have a different size. Though to us they seem like insignificant differences, on a sub-atomic level they are in fact quite significant.
