Which of the Kingdom Hearts game was the darkest in the series? (I'm not asking for better) Which one had the darkest plot/most grim.

KH1, because of Riku turning evil and loosing his hometown, and loosing Kairi.

    [KH1 + CoM spoilers]

Kingdom Hearts was pretty dark, people getting posessed, turning into Heartless, etc....But I'd have to say Chain of Memories.

Everybody was constantly toying with Sora and his emotions, while at the same time all of his memories were coming apart and he was struggling to hold on to everyone and everything he knew. Like how Larxene was going on and on at how heartless he was for not remembering Namine -- Namine, who was trapped in a room and forced to mold him into something he wasn't for almost the entire game. There was also cursing in there as well, though there was alcohol and blood in the second one, I didn't find it as dark as CoM. Sora eventually snapped and abandoned his friends, only to find Namine and be told that she's not who he thinks she is. I'd feel pretty darn guilty/isolated at that moment. And pissed too XD.

All of them had their dark moments, which is probably what surprised people about the Kingdom Hearts series the most. It was dark, it had Disney, but they managed to pull it off =3.

When I first saw this, my first reaction was: Oh, well, Chain of Memories. I like things with really dark storylines, so I was thinking about Sora slowly losing his memory and everything else that happened in COM....

But then I thought about KH1 and I realized that everything that happened seemed to revolve around the heartless and darkness. You Know~

-The islands being ripped to pieces by Riku. (Well, the portal actually, but he helped!)
    -Kairi losing her heart.
-Everybody seemed to be controlled by the heartless.
-Riku was going all evil on everybody~ Then he got possesed.

You know, all the good stuff. XD

So I figured that was my opinion on KH1~
KH2 just wasn't an option for me. Wasn't as challenging to play as the other ones either. >.>

Re:CoM, easily. Sora was too immature in the other games.

    I chose KH2 because:

    Riku's redemption and psychological demons,
    Ansem's vengeance towards Xehanort,
Roxas' realization that his happy life was all just a video game simulation,
The sacrifice of several characters (Axel, Ansem the Wise),
The true status of a nobody,
    e.t.c.

To me, Kingdom Hearts 1 did not really make much sense and seemed kinda plain compared to it's sequels. True it had it's dark moments, but really, it didn't have much of everything.

Kingdom Hearts COM had a more complex, darker storyline, with two groups of the same Organization were actually fighting amongst themselves while at the same time, forced to deal with two keyblade masters. The conflict is so harsh, one of them is even forced (Axel) to kill 2 of his own (Vexen and Zexion).

Kingdom Hearts 2 goes even deeper and explores more psychological issues, such as the meaning of one's existence and what anger can do to even a man of good. Take Ansem for example. All his rage towards Xehanort caused him to actually kidnap a innocent boy and try to use him to kill his traitorous assistant as well as his accomplices. It also asks the fact if the nobodies even exist. To feel such emptiness could drive one to even commit acts of murder.

Whew, yeah I'm done. So there, that's why I think KH2 is the darkest of them all.

I think it is CoM:The remake. Especially Reverse/Rebirth because the members died in cruel ways and the basement and storyline was really dark and all that.

interesting suggestions, I think KH1 alot because of the fact that Sora seemed to have almost no hope in Kingdom Hearts, CoM was in some ways darker in the sense that everyone was manipulated by another. In Reverse/Rebirth Riku struggles to tame the evil in his darkness. KHII was great for having the dark feeling of truth. The truth was, DiZ discription of Roxas was true in that he really didn't have feelings or rights.

Yeah, KH2 in my opinion, is more darker.

But i'm not saying that KH1 doesn't have its dark moments. People don't seem to realize that KH1 had its moments. It may have had Disney in it, but even Disney has its dark moments, if you noticed.

Chain of memories remake because the Organization members death seemed more depressing and violent.

Wow, you just summed up all of my ideas right there. Thanks...you saved me a lot of typing. ^^

But yes, I have to agree with this statement. It's completely true.

Chain of Memories Remake because it had a more serious theme in it with losing memories and stuff, the others were too... how should I say it, funny.

I definatly have to say CoM on this one.

KH1 was... very dark, Riku getting posessed, Xehanort (<3) being... Xehanort, Sora turning into a heartless...

But CoM, omg... that made me so angry at some points I wanted to throw it at the wall.
The Organization was horriblly evil. Holding a young girl hostage and forcing her to toy with the emotions of someone who is under the delusion that they're best friends with eachother, then just out of nowhere telling him that the memories were fake and they've never met before.

And Axel, killing Vexen, who, even though he wasn't completly innocent, didn't deserve to die that way.

And the end of the game, making Sora forget everything and sleep for a year. That's really got to hurt emotionally, even though he doesn't show it so much.

But yeah, I vote CoM. KH2 was pretty dark too, but the only reason I say that is because of the relationship between Axel/Roxas. That really touched me...

I'd say KH2 is the darkest. Roxas' summer vacation is over, Ansem dies, Riku turns into Xehanort's heartless... of course the other ones were dark too but i think KH2 is the darkest.

I voted on KH1--wasn't thingking--but I reliezed I really don't know which is the darkest cause in every game there is a darkside like in KH2 organization13 totally just popped out anywhere and attack Sora and the others; in KH1 Riku becomes one with the darkness for the first time; KH:COM Sora looses all his memories (EVEN ABOUT KAIRI!!!!) ; MUCH MORE!!!!!!!

See all have equal darkness levels:D
