FFVI for me. It's one of the first and best games I've played with a great storyline.
Sadly most people started playing the FFs at FFVII xD. Which is why so many love it. And I can harly imagine people trying FFVI out with the horrible graphics it has xD.
Why do I love it? Simple:
-One of the first RPGs I have played.
-Did in fact have a great gameplay style.
-While it has horrible graphics I can still play it to this day and bare it.
    -Has a very good soundtrack.
    -Amazing storyline

    Lol. I don't know but I guess that's just me. I'm kinda old school.(Even though I'm young)

Final Fantasy IX. It was the first FF game I ever played. 'Till this day, I still love it. The characters are multi-dimensional (not flat as FFVII's bland characters). The gameplay is fun and the story is balanced between the light-hearted and dark moments. There's also a lot to laugh at in this, as well. The soundtrack is nice, and the environments are well-designed. Not to mention, the overall game is pretty fun (even though it is fairly easy).

For me the best FF is VII.
My reasons are simple: that it has the richest story ever and that thanks to it FF was more popular than it was before

The best FF games are 7 and 8!!! THEY OWN!! Yes, FF10 was good, but I mean, come on, FF 7 and 8 were the best ones EVA!! (and probably forever).

People only pick FF10 as there favorite, because they didn't get the pleasure of playing the greatest FF games of all time, in their time.

Well.. Most FF games are amazing, and all very different from others... Though the ones I've been most interested in are FFX (Meh first FF game) VI, VII, and VIII :p Really just can't decide, though I'm currently into VI most...

Though I can easily point out my least favorite.. FFXII is by far the worst FF I've played, and I've played almost all of 'em. I mean like, sure the graphics were good, but in my opinion, that's really all it had. Terrible storyline, lame characters, and irritating music.. They really can't have a good FF these days without Nobuo Uematsu and Tetsuya Nomura...

Hm... Welp, for the storyline, I guess it might've been the whole political thing that I didn't like about it, but I dunno.. I just remember it being pretty boring, like they had missions to accomplish and places to go, but I didn't see much of a reason for doing everything they did. But that's just my opinion.

As for the music, heh heh, didn't notice Uematsu did the main theme, but it did stand out a bit from the rest. And again this is only my opinion here, but I just remember getting constant headaches from playing that game, and not really finding the music as beautifully written as music from other FFs. And lastly, yes, Balthier was the only good character :p

Heh heh, one more thing.. Nobuo Uematsu and Tetsuya Nomura are both working on FFXIII, which gives me much higher hopes for a good FF after 11 and 12 (Though I never actually played 11, from what I saw it wan't that interesting) Wow, I can really just ramble on and on when it comes to stuff like this huh? XD

    *revives thread with annoying post*
I'm most likely going to be shot for this...

FF1 (GBA) don't know about the original, but damn that's old school. I thought it was funny how I could just wander around and by sheer luck I would progress the storyline.

FF7 just seems like the most overused excuse of a 'good' RPG, however I found some of the minigames enjoyable. I didn't like FF7 for the same purpose of any RPG where a character dies and there are things like Phoenix Downs running around (GOOD GOD IT WAS ONLY A STAB WOUND).

FF8 was interesting in that it was semi-logical in various mechanics (draw magic, junctioning emphasis, monsters don't magically drop money, etc.) and that it had Zell. But the overall story failed after about the 2nd disc. (That's a lovely plan you have there Ultimecia, now take out the parts where it's self-defeating and- oh wait thats all of it. And Seifer was a terrible 'rival'...then again Squall-anti-social-emotional-robo and Rinoa-I-will-always-need-to-be-rescued-because-I-am-a-stereotypical-damsel-in-distress-with-a-PINWHEEL/DOG-for-a-weapon, just sucked overall.)

FFX, the sphere grid was oddly addicting but the story was kind of childish after the beginning. Tidus is whiny and Yuna has about as much personality as her elaborate summon stick. Seymour also wasn't very convincingly evil at all. (I shall destory all of Spira, WITH MY ANNOYING FALSETTO AND CRAZY BLUE HAIR)

FFXII, the production quality was amazing (visuals, sounds, dialogue, reference text...s...) but the characters were kind of weak in terms of development. Lady Asche is a terrible candidate for a queen, Vaan is probably Tidus's cousin, Penelo quickly falls into the classification of "SAVE ME PLZ", Basche is a tool, Fran is a kickass bunny lady and Balthier is a smarmy pirate. ...I found myself rooting for the Judges and those floaty-rock-people I don't remember the names of because overall, they had the better character designs. That and the gambits allowed for the game to play itself....

So by order of elimination....I'd say I liked FF8 the most...because being able to summon Tonberry/Moombas are freaking awesome. :]
(I think this proves I'm really not an FF fan....)

FFIX and FFVIII. FFVIII is bored with all the drawing magic things though.

I totally agree on your part. Plus, you get to play as Cait Sith. Very frightening to sneak around as a feline android. It gets me nightmares no scratch that, nervous before I could start. But I like the story nonetheless I even like one of the scientists, not Hojo!

Sadly, I only played two FF games, FFX and FFIII. Compairing the two that I played....FFX is definately better.

I've only played Final Fantasy X and it's pretty fun, so I say it's sorta the best.

    ^...But you're not compairing it to anything D: Which is a little...o_o

I personally feel VII is the best. Compared to I, VIII, IX (I still haven't really finished X -_-) I felt it brought us a new universe with a remarkble love-triangle. We weren't just following the relationship development between the two main characters :/
