Let me summarize Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni for you members:

    - KILLER LOLIS
    - *Insert maniac laugh here that lasts for 5 to 10 seconds*
    - Syringes and machetes are your best friend.
    - NIPAAAAH~

    Yeah,that's pretty much it.

    lol, good summary.

I've only read the manga T_T but it's pretty... WOW. There's no word to describe. I'm even scared to go watch the anime, there might be more gore and yeah.

    Well, yeah...There's gore...
But...Not that much. Just blood, really. Lots of it.
But after the 1st season, it dies down a bit. :3

And the show becomes less entertaining as a result.

Not that it was bad, and it did pretty much contain the actual plot of the series, but I had a lot more fun watching season 1. :T

Anyways, ultimate yandere show, USOOOO DAAAAA, etc.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is my favorite anime of all time. I adore it. <3

If you ask me, the anime has less gore than the manga by far. But the manga is also better than the anime IMO, so.

Also, I actually enjoyed the second season more than the first. =P

Anyone else here played the original visual novels? I've played all of Onikakushi-hen (first chapter) with an English patch, and I have the DS version of the game with the first three chapters and a bonus one based on the extra manga arc... <3

I keep forgetting to get my hands on those visual novels. I'll have to do so sometime.

I'll say this though: whoever provided the art for them is very untalented.

Lucky. I really want to play the visual novels. ;~; I want the game for Ps2 too. I dun think it's in English. D:

I like them both together. *o*

The second season was good. I have to very distinct favorite episodes in it. But it got boring for me when they focused on Miyo. Then it was good again.

And the first one just creeped me OUT. xD

Haha, yeah, I think the originals were made by like one or two people (07th Expansion used to be made up of just a pair of brothers, I think...? It got bigger once Higurashi got popular, of course), so they didn't have any artists to do the art for 'em XD. Really though, once you play the games you get used to it pretty quick.

I reaaaallly wish the PS2 game was in English... I imported the DS version, but because DS cartridges have less space they split it into fourths, so it only comes with three chapters. And it's not English either, and since my Japanese is... Marginal at best, I only get the major plot points and stuff that's voice acted (my Japanese reading skills are a million times worse than when I hear it spoken...).

    And yeah, I felt the whole thing with young Miyo was kinda boring too, actually. I wanted to see more about the main characters XD;
Miyo actually happens to be one of my most hated anime/game characters of all time, even though she was miserable as a child... I hate to say it but she was just so... EVIL. D:
She's seriously up there with Flay of Gundam SEED and Dahlia Hawthorne of Ace Attorney for me, if any of you have even heard of them, hahaha.

Btw, you can download all of Onikakushi-hen -- the original doujin version -- for free from 07th Expansion's website, and a pair of translators that go by Sonozaki Futago-tachi have put together an English translation for that entire chapter, if you want to play it. I can post links if you guys want?
The visual novels seem to be far superior to the manga and anime if you ask me, in terms of story at least.

    Ooh, I L O V E Higurashi! :3

I agree on it being better than Elfen Lied. I mean, even though Elfen Lied made me cry and all and I loved it, Higurashi just scares me way more. It's probably cuz it's more likely to have girls like Rena stalking you with a hatchet than pink-haired girls with invisible arms cutting off your body parts from 3 meters away xD

I haven't gotten started on the second or third season yet, though .__. I really must >.<

And I'd love to get the PS2 game, even if it's not in English :3

Ehhh I wouldn't neccessarily say "better" than Elfen Lied, just different. I like them both a lot.

Anyways, I think Higurashi is pretty good, it wasn't as what the ****ish as I had expected before I watched it, I think because everyone always hyped it up so much I was expecting a real major mind ****, but in all honesty it was pretty easy to understand. I liked the plot, I thought it was pretty decent and I loved how there was this like small line of hope that ran through every event only to get crushed in the inevitable blood bath.

Takano is a ****ing *****, I hate her almost as much as I hate Priscilla (Claymore) and that is a lot >>

I disagree, I thought both seasons were good, I actually liked season 2 a lot better than 1 despite the decrease in gore it increased in the mental aspect.
