Peace-and-War inspired me for this thread. Credit goes to him. But anyway...
You know that doctor character from the first episode? The one with the cure for cancer? Apparently, he's alive! And he takes the leading role for this episode. He still has the cure for cancer but he's quite an A-hole and decides to take his secret to the grave. The only way to the obtain the necessary knowledge is to torture it out of him. By which I mean torture him horribly. Just think of the worst you can think of. Would you do it?

Also, this is a purely ethical question. I know the background story isn't waterproof and needn't be reminded of that. I don't want loophole-hunting to affect your answer in any way. In other words, I don't want horseshit such as this in my thread:

Lol at the horseshit coming from Pika.

I would kinda spread rumors, let the angry mob chase him a bit, then catch him and tell him it will all go away if he just tells me the secret. Watching your life's work burn, as well as your home, can kinda put you into perspective.

Well, it's not so much a question of how you would do it. The core of it all is: would you hurt someone in the most terrifying ways you can think of in order to save many, many others?

I'll repeat that just to make sure.

As I said in the first thread - the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Besides, it's not like I'd be killing the doctor, just hurting him. He's a doctor. He can heal himself easier than most.

    The ends justifies the means.
    So yes, I'd do it.
Would I be capable of it? I'm not sure.
But would I do it? Definitely

Would I do it, knowing that his information would help save millions of people? Yes.
    Would I enjoy it? No.
Would I regret harming another human being in the hopes of helping others? You bet.

If there was a way to torture him humanely without hurting him physically, like sticking him in a white room with pictures of people who lost loved ones to cancer or something like that, then yes, I'd do it. Physically torturing him, count me out.

All these tough questions are making me doubt my morals @_@.

Coming from my last answer, yes I'd be pretty mad the doctor decided to keep things secretly when I let my loved one burn in the fires of sacrifice. I'd try to appeal to reason and try to talk him into helping thousands.

    If that doesn't work...

Then, I guess a little psychological torture wouldn't hurt him enough to damage him forever, just a bit of a guilt trip, and then let things unfold...

In a way, this is pretty much the same thing as the first. One life over thousands. Though, this questions are really making me feel uneasy.

When does the line between good and evil truly end? Questions like these are a bit tough due to the way they test a person's morals.

... Hmmm.... I would do it, but not TOO badly...
Like shoot his foot, kidnap his family and threaten to kill them if he didn't tell.
Of course, I wouldn't KILL them, just send them into hiding making him believe they where dead....

Wow, I never saw this twist in the story!!
    Nice continuation.
Let's see...Hmm, I would most likely want to get the information out of him, mainly because the knowledge of curing cancer would be one of the most valuable pieces of information in the world. If I had to take it to the extreme, I would most likely. THe act of doing it, I may do it myself, but if it is possible, I would hire a pro in this stuff, they would be more succesful and be able to do the torturing.
And if the pro tried to blackmail me to get the info, i'd kill him. If you wonder why i'd kill someone but not torture, simply, you can kill people quickly and painlessly, to me much better than torture.
And with the info? I may sell it to several countries, or other private pharmacies. Or I may not even give it away at all.

If the doctor is a big enough asshole that i have to torture the cure for cancer from him, of course I'd do it. As long as he comes out alive once I'm finished. And even if he didn't, then I'd be saving thousands of lives. I'd kill him if I had to.
