    So in just a little while it'll be my birthday, and I know I'm going to use some of my birthday money to buy sony vegas so I have it, but I don't know what sony vegas I need to buy. I know there are different versions of it, so which one do I want to buy that's good for making AMVs and stuff? Also, which is better: Sony Vegas 9 or Sony Vegas 11?

    I suggest buying Sony Vegas 9 Pro or even an older version just as long as it's Pro and not Sony Vegas Movie Studio. While it's more expensive than Sony Vegas Movie Studio, which is basically the water-downed and cheaper version for consumers, it has more features like allowing you to have unlimited video and audio tracks, project nesting and masking among other things. It's also cheaper than the most current version, 11. There aren't many changes between versions that actually make a difference for AMV editors so buying an older version should save you money and you'll practically get the same thing. I think Stardust uses Sony Vegas 7 to this day and it hasn't caused any trouble with her. So if you have the money, I suggest buying Sony Vegas Pro but if you don't, Sony Vegas Movie Studio isn't that bad and is a decent editor by itself. The only bad thing in my opinion is that it limits you to 4 video tracks and 4 audio tracks and there's no masking. ; ~ ;

    I still use 7 as well, but I haven't really tried any of the more recent ones. I did try movie studio though and hated it.

    But yeah, I would go with the above advice here as well.

    Though I can't add much to the above statements, the newer versions of Vegas (10 & 11) usually only make minor changes to the previous year's model.

    Also, do not get Movie Studio. You're limited to four Video tracks and everything (number of effects and transitions) has been watered down. I'd just go with GS here and get 9 Pro. I use 10 Pro and it's great~

    I currently have Sony Vegas 9. I did download the trial version of Sony Vegas 11 and although there were no major changes i preferred the previous version.

    I think you could read some reviews online to help you make a decision.

    Alright, so I'm getting the feeling I should be going for a Pro XD.
    Either way, I'll look it up to see how much I can get one. Hopefully I can find one that's fairly cheap and not $100, because that's ridiculous and most of my birthday money, and I just realized I need to buy a new headset as well. To ebay!!

    BTW, this thread can be locked now, I got my answer
