Agreeing to disagree. Not because I feel any differently personally, but because I'm sure there are people who those movie do imprint on and leave an impact. Just because it didn't make you fall in love so deep you almost wanted to be apart of it, you don't criticize those who did, ya know what I mean? Let them enjoy what they're enjoying. Hell, I'd be excited for them and enthusiastic while talking to them about it. I wish I could have that enthusiasm about small stuff and didn't need emotional maestros to play my hearts strings like a damn fiddle to make me feel any sort of impact. I wish I could be that vulnerable.

You are excluding people again. That's not nice. If not everyone can be a part, it's not worth doing. Duh.

The Avengers isn't a movie with much deep thematic stuff going on. There's some, but it's really just a fun movie that's smart enough to not be dumb and with enough going on to not be insulting. More than any other movie (at the time it came out) it was a comicbook movie through and through. Fun.

And btw, you keep saying profound like people analyze superhero movie in hopes to find truths that will redefine our entire world. That's not what's going on.
People who analyze stories do it to fully appreciate what the story is about. It amplifies the enjoyment for those people.
I don't know how to explain this to a person who doesn't care. I'm not trying to convince you that you should or try and tell you you're wrong, I'm just trying to provide you with an alternative pov.

I'm not really paying attention to the rest of the thread but Trigger's statements are something I felt compelled to address so LEAV ME ALONE MAYBE YOU SHOULDNT MAKE THREADS NO ONE UNDERSTANDS HUH[DOUBLEPOST=1399263915][/DOUBLEPOST]lol 3 people calling out nova at the same time shut up nova get outta here

there's nothing surprising or challenging in a superhero movie for me. if you like them then whatever, you keep enjoying them. everyone has an interest and you should like what you like. i'm a big ****** who likes anime so what do i know? all superhero movies feel the same to me so i inherently find them boring and i will continue to insult them until they go away.

Well generally speaking if you have no history with any of the Avengers or Batman, etc then you might not be able to appreciate it and it surely won't look like anything spectacular to you. Avengers leaves a mark on me because I predicted that it would come out the night after I saw Batman Returns for the first time ever. Some people say I'm being silly but I DAMN WELL PREDICTED THAT IT WOULD COME OUT
YOU COULD EVEN SAY I WAS A GOD AT THE TIME

Also does a movie really need to be deep and thought provoking in order to be good? Different kinds of movies are good for different kinds of reason. There's nothing super thought provoking about John Carpenter's "The Thing" and in fact the most prominent thing about the movie is just how utterly amazing the traditional effects are in the movie. But that's exactly why it's one of my favorite horror movies out there. There's no deep themes to it, it's just "alien takes over people, everyone flips the **** out" at its core but it is the make up and animatronics alone that turn the film into something really unsettlingly ****ing disgusting.

Controversy and themes are not the only things that make movies memorable or even GOOD. Just look at that abomination Transcendence.

Yeah but that has nothing to do with the movie itself. I'm not trying to say that for a movie to be good it has to be controversial, deep, thought provoking, etc. I'm saying it bugs me when people run around touting movies like Amazing Spiderman and Avengers AS those things. I just don't understand how someone could think they are. I don't think in 20 or 30 years anyone will still be talking about the Marvel movies going around right now like people still talk about Fight Club, Memento, The Shining, or even Inception for a recent example.

20 years later people are still talking about Tim Burtons Batman
And 30+ years later people are still talking about Christopher Reeve's Superman
BOTH of those are era defining movies

Hell, how can you hear this and NOT know what it's from?

and both of those are pretty terrible in their own right compared to what we're getting now
or at least Burton's Batman is.

you're crazy if you think people won't be talking about Nolan's Batman and the MCU years from now.
hell. Iron Man and TDK redefined what it meant to make a good superhero movie by raising the bar in storytelling (TDK, IM) and adapting source material (IM)
that's not to say there weren't good ones before that, but none had quite the effect those did and since then it's been a whole different game.

TDK trilogy are like the only superhero movies I like because Christopher Nolan is a great director but I really don't think any of the Marvel movies have come close to the quality of those movies.

They're talking about them because how blatantly bad they were which is not the point I'm trying to make with the movies I mentioned. The movies I listed will be talked about for good reasons. The Marvel movies of today are pretty mediocre and I really don't think anyone will be talking about them because they're just whatever.

    Uhhhh
    What?
Did you not see the link I just posted? That's the Superman theme
People don't hate the Superman theme, they love it, it's great. It's why it's so memorable.

And what exactly are these bad things about the movies that you mention?
Was it Michael Keaton's performance as Bruce Wayne? I'll admit as Batman it wasn't anything too spectacular but I think as Bruce Wayne he came off as perfect. The scene where he's trying to say that he's Batman but just doesn't know how to articulate himself is one of the best examples of his acting that I can think of right next to Beetlegeuce

Of course Jacky boy steals the show half the time. People can go on and on about Heath Ledger vs Jack Nicholasn but that doesn't really matter to me
At the end of the day Jack is such an entertaining and hilarious character to watch you almost find yourself laughing with all of sick and twisted ****.

The hero villain dynamic is pretty stellar. Some would complain that it's not accurate to the comics at all(what with Joker killing Batmans parents) but I'm happy enough to have seen a new spin on things, especially when overall I think it helps the movie out while not completely ruining the point of said origin story like with Spiderman. I particularly like how the two rivals face eachother in every way possible. Jack vs Batman then Bruce vs Joker and then finally leading up to the climax, Joker vs Batman, fate finally pitting the sworn enemies at eachother. It's an excellent build up and while not on par with Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker, it's still absolutely great.

And don't even get me started on the soundtrack. Danny Elfman hits it and he hits it hard.

There's a bunch of weird things in the movie that I feel have no place but the movie isn't perfect but nor is any of the movies that you mentioned either.

The point is, I don't know where you're getting this "Everyone ACTUALLY hates it" thing from. These movies ARE remembered fondly, of course there's some of them that AREN'T but that still does not invalidate any of the great ones. And I only covered Batman in this case.
