So, what makes a good song?

    Lyrics?
    Guitar?
    Electronic Beat?
    Bass?
    Drums?
    All of Above?
    Other?

I think that the lyrics of a song have to mean something, and make up a lot of the song, and in my opinion there is no song without a guitar and drums.

Well...I know about music.I have been going at a music school for 7 years. So what impresses me in a good song is its melody. But i also think that lyrics can make a song good.I don't think that a song is good if there's guitar in it.But i'm sure it makes it better!(guitar's the instrument i play!:p)

    *is a drummer*

    xD

I think one of the most important things in making a good song is the feeling behind it ^^ you can have the best lyrics or beat in the world but if you havn't got the feeling/enthusiasm behind it then it will fail.

Lyrics are naturally important a good song IMO has to mean something to me.

But then I also think that instruments play a massive ****ing role too like for example in MCR's I never told you what I do for a living there is that bit right after "and we all fall down" that small piece just after that is immense IMO it is the things like that that make a song good.

Heck most of the time I hear whats behind the lyrics and listen to the instruments instead xD

edit: I just realised I didn't answer this very well >.> I don't think you can define what makes a song good, it varies depending on the song and my mood xD

The voice and the lyrics play a big part in it. Think, you can sing a song with just the lyrics and your voice, and it can be the most meaningful thing many people have heard.

    >> refers to: On the edge of distortion, which i sung on in front of the whole school with just my voice.

And most people were crying by the end of it.

In my opinion what makes a good song is a chorus that everybody knows, a song the audience can get into at a concert. It needs to be memorable in some way whether it be a famous guitar lick or solo, or just a very emotional and touching song.

    Lyrics/vocals.

The meaning behind the song is really important.
Because you can't sing "Lolipops and candy are so good, stick a lolipop in my mouth, mmm it's so good." it won't be a hit...but then again there's Sexy Back.

I really think you should only write a song when you're inspired by something.

But, then again, you could have a song with a wonderful meaning and great lyrics.
You need a good voice to pull it off. I don't like listening to a band that has Spongebob as the lead singer, sorry, no thank you.

    xD

    Dude.

This all depends on what type of music you listen to.

But overall, the music in itself plus the lyrics.

I can't single out something that makes a song 'good'. There are so many great genres; so many different songs; you can't just pick one thing and say 'this is what makes the song good'.

If I had to answer the question, it'd be everything flowing together and working in harmony -- whether it be just vocals or just guitar or anything else.

What makes a good song is the lyrics, amongst other things like flow and rhythm. The lyrics have to actually make sense too, a lot of songs now have lyrics that don't even make sense at all, and don't fit the mood the song is trying to display. A good song as great lyrics, a good vibe to it, awethome flow (yeah, with a lithp), and rthym.

    Yeah....
