Kingdom Hearts II What is this in Japanese?

Axel's line "Got it Memorized"? I know it's "Commit to Memory" in english, but I don't know how to put that into romaji. Could anyone help me?

"Got it memorized?" - English line

It's written as 記憶したか in the original subtitle. The romaji would be "Kioku shitaka?" - original Japanese line.

'kioku' meaning memory, 'shita' denoting memory as an action, conjugated into past tense, 'ka' denoting a question or inquiry.

Why are both Commit it to memory and Got it memorized used. It's not like he says "komitto ito tou memori" in japanese, he says "kioku shita ka". Was it translated as one thing in CoM and another in KH2? Personally, I think "Got it memorized?" is a better translation of kioku shita ka as its still posing a question.

I don't recall CoM too well in terms of the script. I actually don't recall 'Commit it to memory' at all from CoM. I could be wrong; I agree though--'kioku shitaka' is still better.

Okay as far as i remember Marluxia and Sora were talking and Axel appered.
AXEL "Boo"
MARLUXIA "What do you want"
AXEL "I got bored, what with you hogging the hero?"
Marluxia mutters a bit and throws a card to Axel.
MARLUXIA "Perhaps you would like to test him?"
AXEL "Perhaps i would."
Marluxia dissapeares.
AXEL "Looks like It's my show now keyblade master. The name's Axel. Commit it to memory."
Sora says sure and Axel says that now they learned each others name, he shouldn't die on him. And first Axel battle starts.:)

 

Commit it to memory. Sounds like something a robot would say. XD

 

If that's true, it's probably just a translation liberty. Two phrases that intended to say the same thing; no biggie.

In any case, 'kioku shitaka' is definitely a better translation in my opinion, and thankfully is what they used in KH2, and I believe Re:CoM as well.

 

Well, you have to take into account that sometimes, especially with GBA games, that the script is run through a translator, and sent out pretty much "As is". Not the mention the fact that voices weren't needed, so the translation could be flawed, and still be OK.
"Got it memorized?" was probably decided upon, when they got Axel's voice actor. Mostly because "Commit it to memory!" sounded a little too formal, especially for a character like Axel, and thus was changed from the CoM counter part.

They're the same thing, it's just that "Got it memorized?" has a little more flavor to it.

 

Commit it to memory.....hmmm...... Do people in Japan say that? Got it memorized sounds more modern.

 

I think Got it memorized sounds a lot more...I dunno...interesting, I guess, than Commit it to Memory does.

 

"Commit it to memory" is an English interpretation. While it may 'mean' that to some degree, that's not *how* it comes across in Japanese culture. Lots of things in Japanese can't really be translated accurately in English.
