What is generally the deciding factor that makes you life, love, or hate music? Meaningful lyrics? Cool sounds? A catchy beat?
For me, it's a strong melody. As a rule, if I an't hum a song, I probably won't like it

I think everyone loves a strong melody and beat for me it can be a mixture of the beat itself along with the way the singer conveys emotion through the tone of their voice that'll decide it normally enough I love upbeat music which'll motivate me which is why I think I've still not stopped listening to Niwaka ame nimo makezu by nico touches the walls and J-rock in general I know there are tons of different types of songs within J-rock but for the most part over my time of listening to multiple songs and bands the main feeling I've had is that they've always given me goosebumps + motivation so if a song can do that to me I'll probably love it.

I don't think I could ever just say one thing makes me like a song, much like how I feel about films and video games. If the rhythm is good but the lyrics sound stupid, I probably won't enjoy the song. If the lyrics are very well-written but the vocalist rubs me the wrong way, I'll switch to something else or look for a cover. As far as I know, I can't really overlook one bad aspect of a song for the good parts.

Neither do people who write papers for school, but copying them is heavily punished

Generally if there's a nice melody (hence why melodic death metal is probably my favorite musical genre). I don't care about lyrics at all. I'm pretty sure I have a handful of songs praising Satan and damning Jesus to the depths of Hell, but who knows. I don't care, the shit still sounds good. Heck, I can't understand most of what the vocalists in the songs I like are saying anyway.

but as long as the vocalist doesn't sound like a prepubescent teen or something...

SUFFERING I guess I've never really thought about it. I'll usually like anything that sounds good to me, which takes over a wide range of genres, even those on opposite ends of the spectrum. Something catchy, something that can get stuck in my head, even though I say I hate it about five years ago, something like that would have been Justin Bieber's Baby because I had to do a dance routine to it.

I think that a perfect combination for me is a strong melody, a bridge that gives me the chills, and pumping bass that makes me vibrate. I tend to also adore music that makes me cry but also avoid it like the plague because I hate crying. The music I like the most is the music that makes me feel something, even if that's not by the lyrics.

I never really take much stock in lyrics because at least 70% of the songs I listen to these days are love songs gross, but as long as it has a good melody, I'm set.
