This was in response to a topic at another forum o: What is a Sonic fan? At this point, I ain't so sure. Over the years, the Sonic fanbase has degenerated mostly into a breed of misguided, delusional and immature brats who pass themselves off as Sonic fans and respond bitterly in an unintelligent manner if questioned. I'm hangin' by the Sonic fanbase by a mere thread. Bein' a Sonic fan meant you liked the games, and watched the shows and didn't give a damn. You liked the cast of characters, the villains, the stages, and music. It was at that time we're united in that we simply liked the series for what it offered. But no, not in these dark times. Most of these great fans have left the Sonic fandom when new blood came in. Over the last 6 years, the Sonic fanbase began to divide itself primarily on characters. Over the course, friendships were destroyed and abominations rose forth. This came in the form of Sonic Passion, which is known by many as the epitome of evil that was the Sonic fanbase and a foreshadowing downfall of sorts. The fanbase become almost absolutely divided with the death of Deem Bristow. Now it was just those who like the original voice actors, and those who supported 4Kids. Neither side was right nor wrong, and somewhere along that line, a war within the fanbase itself slowly, but steadily grew. As the games' quality began to decrease, the fanbase followed. By 2008, a war within the fanbase occurred, causing the departure of a handful of great Sonic fans. Sonic fans are now a shadow of their former selves, as they only saw situations in black and white Sonic fans also happen to be ghosts kinda. Even after the console war between Nintendo and Sega, the Sonic fans still found themselves at odds with Mario's fanbase. Blind to the real truth, they continue to disrespect the video game hero known as Mario, who practically opened the door for Sonic. All I can say is, it's pretty easy to extract butthurt from Sonic fans these days. You say something negative about anything, and they'll choke you like Wayne Brady chokes a b*tch D: I've been to hell and back with the Sonic fanbase and it's been the bulk of mine and others' troubles. The fandom is only supported by a few, mature and faithful fans. The rest is....\: Tis not an opinion, it's a fact. Go on, just try and say that Sonic is losing the battle, and see what a general Sonic fan has to say/swear.
I am a Sonic fan, and Sonic is loosing the battle. The games nowadays quite franky suck. I haven't played Sonic 08, or whatever it was called, but just judging from the rest of the games, I know what to think. Sonic started dying when the Dreamcast fell. Now we are just watching the Death spasms. Oh, and I am on the side of Sonic Adventures and the old voice actors. (Except for Tails. They really shouldn't cast a VA with a cold)
I agree pretty much everything pika said except Sonic Heroes, was fun. THEN sonic started dying off. Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, Sonic the Hedgehog for 360, Sonic Riders Zero gravity were ALL MEDIOCRE/just plain terrible. Look at the gametrailer/gamespot/ign reviews. I'm a sonic fan. I bought the gba games and watched the shows. No doubt I'm not a hardcore one like you, but I know when something is about to die. I feel as though Sonic is falling in a spiral ready to crash down into the depths of "failed videogames" if it keeps this streak. I'm boycotting sonic games because they suck so much and I feel they are just a plain waste of money right now. I wish I could be proven wrong, but I can't.
What is a Sonic fan indeed? A complete moranic dunce with no common sense knowing that hedgehogs are slow, stupid, and are not multi-colored.
Well, I used to like Sonic, and I played the GBA games and Adventure Two Battle or whatever it was XD After that, I didn't really want to play it anymore. It's really getting suckish, and it's going to fail very soon. Sega depends on Sonic, too, and they are going to go outta business soon if they don't get better.
No...No...That can't be true... I can't accept that... Are you guys saying that Sonic is gonna totally lose popularity and Mario will take over completely and no more Sonic Games will be made?
Your Dots of Drama amuse me XD But yeah, that's the gist of it, unless both the games and it's fanbase fix up their acts Face eet dood, Sonic is on the verge of dying. His only hope lies in his three newest games, which could be his last Sorreh dood, if he screws up, it's Game Over
Well, I loved the original games. I got the Sonic Mega Collection + so I could play them again. And I loved the action show that aired in '93. I just bought the complete series today. I thought the Sonic game for the PS3 was okay, still haven't beaten it yet, though. But I consider myself a Sonic fan, since I have been with it since I was a kid when played the first one and loved it. I'd hate to see Sonic go.
Sonic is dying, no question about it. But as long as they're making enough money off the games, I think they'll continue to make them. Hopefully they'll at least try to improve.
I'm not trying to be funny btw. Sonic always was my very favorite video game hero of all time. I never could or was able to get used to Mario and I doubt I ever will be able to. Don't get me wrong. I DO like Mario too. But I just like Sonic better. I've always been such a big fan of Sonic ever since I was just a little kid. And he was my very first video game hero too. By that I mean he was the very first one I was introduced to. If Sonic were to die in popularity completely I don't know what I would do... I already feel devastated at what I just heard...
Dood, I've got three words fer ya: Popularity is EVIL D: Because of the excessive amount of popularity his arch-rival, Shadow, has been gettin'...soooooo yeeeah XD
Sonic has been not doing well for some time and it saddens me somewhat. I've played the games for years and it seems that with 3d, games became better and then went on a steady decline. Where I became annoyed mostly was with the introduction of new characters that were modeled after Sonic, like Silver. I know people that like the character but to me, these kinds of mistakes are what are putting Sonic in the hole, along with the stories that aren't as good. Also, I feel sometimes the new Sonic games are totally catering to Otaku and furries way more than they used to. That's great for them but bad for those people like me who well, aren't into it. Nintendo on the whole seems to be doing that lately and it's becoming harder to find interest in it. Probably some of my jadedness does come from having stupid 'fanboy' debates where they actually try to -force- my opinions out and I really see no reason to discuss it with them because they will get offended. As for bringing up Mario, I have to say that I haven't cared for Mario in 3d games hardly at all. Sonic evolved well, but Mario just didn't seem to -for me- so no one take offense please. I still have more enjoyment playing older Mario stuff than I do games with him or his buddies that are current. I don't really see how bringing Mario into this though matters. It is, after all, about Sonic. Sonic fans really do not have to like Mario or any other game for that matter nor do we owe an allegiance to another game because it came first. I've had to have this argument with people too. If I like Spiderman, do I have to like Superman too? It's the same point here really. I hope the Sonic games improve. Will I probably still try to buy new games? Yeah, because I grew up with Sonic so I have to hope it will get better. Really, right now Sonic, Zelda and Mega Man games are the only reasons I even stick with Nintendo at all anymore as they still hold interest for me. So here's to hoping the next game will be an improvement and that no more rip-off Sonic characters are born so Sonic himself and Tails etc can see more of the spot light again.
i used to play sonic back then but ever since the release of sonic 06 its been bad and fan characters like naming them sunlight the hedgehog and and having a relation ship with sonic thats bad.. i'm just a fan whos about to give up on sonic and if these 3 games are bad i'm not a sonic fan anmore.
