    Honestly, I wasn't really trying to "go after her". I thought it was a pretty light-hearted joke.

    Umm...a warning for the future, double negatives are not your friends when trying to disprove another member ^^;

    With my limited knowledge of Japanese, I thought that -kun was just a term used for familiarity (friends, family, etc.), not anything as complex as liking someone... ._.

    -kun is for males that you know, doesn't have to be for someone you like more than a friend or whatever. Like -chan is for females. -san is for people you have just met or even for pets.

    ^ This

    The only reason for this thread that I can see is for you to show off that you know some Japanese. Well err Congrats?

    Oh and hello there.

    "-kun" is typically used as a term of endearment or with social inferiors. E.g., you'd typically refer to a little brother or a person in a lower grade than you with "-kun" either because you're older or as a sign of affection (not full-blown attraction, mind). "-chan" is the female equivalent. Note the presence of the "social inferior" implication; this is why some people dislike being referred to with "-kun" or "-chan," and may respond along the lines of "Stop treating me like a kid."

    "-san" is a term of respect used when addressing peers/superiors.

    Also, "-sama" is for lords and ladies, and "-sempai" is for peers/classmates you consider to be of equal standing, essentially a more casual form of "-san." I believe there's also "-dono," though I haven't heard it used enough to figure out what it means.

    You got everything else right except the "sempai" one. Sempai is used for a person who is usually higher than you in terms of seniority. An example would be calling an upperclassman your "sempai" since he is higher than you and tends that have more experience in things. There's also "kohai" which is basically an underclassman. Also "sempai" and "kohai" aren't really dictated by age since it has to do more with seniority, like if somebody is higher than you in a company but is younger than you, he is still your sempai.
