Is what I just read on wikipedia about Sword Art Online

"The series will also be airing on the Toonami block on Adult Swim in August."

Please tell me this is true and my hopes aren't going to be shattered in a few months?

This is some pretty old news.

It's so old, the show has already been on toonami, making some people happy, and leaving others disappointed.

I'm a fan of dubs. And the cast that they have for SAO is actually pretty interesting. The main reason I'm considering watching it is because one of my friends is going to be a character on the show (one of the smaller characters, I think one episode) and I'm going to show my support.

Seriously? You know someone who's actually going to voice a person on the show? Even if it's a smaller character and one time only, that's awesome

Yeah; she announced it to her friends, and I was really happy for her. I want to support her since I know how hard she's worked to get to this point.

I don't hate the show. It's okay for what it is (better than a lot of the shonen out there) but there are some storytelling flaws that I can't overlook.

I haven't seen the show yet, but I have read the manga, and from what I've seen it it, I can tell what you mean my storytelling flaws. I'll admit that just from reading it's a really good story, and it might even be an awesome anime, but when you just mess up some of the story, you kinda lose some points. Still, I have to actually watch it to judge it 100%

I do too, when they're well done. Otherwise, if the voice acting is too ridiculous, poorly acted, or whatever, it detracts from the experience.

There are some anime with good English dubs though, I've already admitted, but it's the exception rather than the rule sadly.

Well, the strongest part of the show are the fight scenes. They're very well done and creative, but fight scenes can only go so far for me. And I very much dislike the paring of Asuna and Kirito. Their love story is very forced for me, and that doesn't bode well for me.

I don't recall (in the anime) their pairing to be forced that much. I'm on episode 19, and it does feel natural, although the marriage thing does seem a little much...

Still better romance than Legend of Korra though.

Sounds like it's better in the anime. In the manga there were only 11 or 12 chapters, so in that amount you basically deal with it saying "Here's 2 people who have feelings for each other. We'll give you little to no back story and expect you to understand what happened between the two"

To me, it felt very forced. Sure, they become friends, but the way they grow feelings for each other feels like the creators were saying "okay, these guys will be the main couple because she's the lead girl and he's the lead guy". And, yeah, the marriage thing is over the top. I'm not asking for each character to have the emotional depth of the Atlantic ocean, but I want it to at least have something.

This is basically what I felt too. They seemed to accellerate the romance simply because it was what the fans wanted, but it was just too simple and shallow.

Badly plotted, I'll give you that.

And all of these responses could be summed up in one phrase: It's shonen, what did you honestly expect?

Shounen is not synonymous with bad

Actually, the story itself isn't bad, it just had a bad start to it. And while that did kind of screw some of it up, the overall story is pretty cool, and the next part of it is doing a much better job starting off and going with the story. It doesn't seem to be rushing at all.

Sword Art Online wasn't the best. Started of interestingly enough, but after Asuna's tsundere nature was revealed I lost all hope for the show. Then when the show was half over and lost its interesting plot I stopped caring about it and started laughing at it for any hope of enjoyment.

I will say that not all shonen is bad. Attack on Titan is a good example a shonen show that balances great action with a good story (although, they seem to be going down a road where they're simply going to become generic from what it looks like). I know shonen can be good, it's just hard to find one that can keep a good story going. Either they go on for hundreds of chapters/episodes, which doesn't interest me, or they end badly.

Granted, that's not all of shonen though. I really like Deadman Wonderland, although it has problems. Why I choose to accept that over SAO is that it doesn't become sidetracked (in the anime at least), the lead character does have flaws and isn't a Gary Stu, and many of the side characters have their own personalities.

I'm just someone who loves the art of storytelling, and from what I've experienced, a lot of battle shonen don't know how to do that.

Well, I would give a list of good shounen, but that would also be based off the fact that I like a lot of things people don't, and you did say you don't like things that go on hundreds of chapters, which outs the Big Three, as well as toriko....although I wonder if you wouldn't mind Gamaran. You could give Magico a try, but while it doesn't carry on forever, it still is only 66 chapters, so you might think that's rushed.

Hmm, you're making it difficult to recommend some shounen :P
