Help What are Group Memberships?

I've been curious about that for awhile. If you go to anyone's profile, in the bottom right corner there's the heading "Group Memberships" and underneath that would be "(Member Name) is not a member of any public groups."

So...what are they exactly and do they hold any purpose other than taking up space?

 

i'm actually curious about this too. I know Kay told me but I was distracted by the Tour de France I believe.

 

It's a vBulletin default feature which we never use... nor can we get rid of it. What does it do? Well you see everyone is sorted into user groups. There are Registered Users, Premium Members, Mods, S. Mods, etc. However, these are private usergroups to which only an admin can assign. A public user group is something anyone can join... where it can focas on certain forums for that group. It can also display hidden forums (which we would also have to create if we used the feature) for, as an example, older audiences. That particular public group could view those forums and it would be hidden to everyone else. I really don't know how to explain it any better then that. Long story short, it's there but we don't use it... so nothing to worry about.

 

Hmm...I was going to suggest in the Suggestions area if there should be a hidden sub-forum for those adolescent members that like using profanity a lot, but can't due to this being a PG-13 forum and the censor filter...

...but I guess that'd be kinda useless. :huh:

Alright. It just seems like a waste of space, though. Is there really nothing that we can do with it? It seems a shame to have a feature that's available, but unusable...

 

For a forum like this, no... I don't think it's needed. Kh-vids has one main theme, even though we have sections that have nothing to do with the games.
