    My favorites are

    Eragon
    The Hitchhiker's Series
    Percy Jackson and beyond
    The Sword of Truth series
    Harry potter of course
    Inkheart
And really random novels that I get my hands on that can manage to charm me into reading them, mostly fantasy, no horror, I really liked The Perks of Being a Wallflower though, and October Sky, and I enjoy epics and long poetry as well.

I'm just looking for something good to read. I like fantasy, not sci-fi as much, but The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and its sequels are probably my favorite out of the things I've read, I have at least a hundred novels on my shelf that I've finished, and Uglies, The Hunger Games, etc., etc., but I don't particularly like them. I hate tragedy and fluff, but I like comedy and satire. I like things that make me think about life, while not being overly serious as well, and I don't really enjoy series' unless they're already complete. I prefer standalone books, long or short doesn't matter to me. I've become really picky lately and haven't read anything because I haven't found a book I've really liked in a long time, so I want mew things.

    Any recommendations?

As in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? If so, you might like Doctor Who: Shada, based on a Fourth Doctor story that never made it past the scripting stage. It was originally written by Douglas Adams, and adapted to novel form by Gareth Roberts. It even features a Time Lord who is more appallingly irresponsible than the Doctor.

Also, the Haruhi Suzumiya series is pretty great too. The first seven books have been translated to English, the eighth is coming this November, and there are three more coming after that. The series is still ongoing too, but no new books have been announced beyond a mention that there is more to come. Most of the books pretty short, though, and many of them are collections of short stories that bring more of the story into perspective. Latest book in English (Intrigues) is my favorite so far, but it makes very little sense if you had read at least from Book 4 (Disappearance) on.

Okay, 4th doctor, my favorite, and Douglas Adams, my other favorite. DEFINITELY looking into buying that book, even if the novel isn't written by him.

And oh man, the Time Lords were all dicks, the doctor is hardly irresponsible in comparison to the Time Lords he has to report to.

And Haruhi Suzumiya is an anime series my sis used to watch, I didn't know there were novels, I'll check that out.

"The Doctor shook his head. 'Professor you've been appallingly irresponsible. I though I was appallingly irresponsible, but you've taken appalling irresponsibility on to a whole new level.'"

To put it into context, this is a Time Lord aged 12,000-13,000 years old who has retired to Earth and brought just a few books with him from Gallifrey. You know, nursery books for Time Tots, a couple of his favorite novels, a textbook or three, and The Worshipful and Ancient Law of Gallifrey, one of the the Great Artefacts of the Rassilon Era. So, not a dick, just really irresponsible. He's actually more on the First Doctor's level when it comes to how much of a dick he is, and even that's not too bad.

They were actually novels first. Unfortunately, the anime adaptation made it out of Japan first, and got popular enough that Nagaru Tanigawa, the author, gave the OK for an English translation. In order, the novels go:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Append that last part to the rest of the titles)
    The Sigh
    The Boredom
    The Disappearance
    The Rampage
    The Wavering
    The Intrigues
    The Indignation
    The Disassociation
    The Astonishment
The Astonishment of Haruhi Suzumiya (Final Part)

    Red=Not Translated

As you can probably tell, I have quite the obsession with this series.

I am super picky about books. Heck, I hate reading in general, the only books I have ever actually sat down and read with enjoyment were The Hunger Games and The Dragon Riders of Pern

Hunger Games was a great book with an ending that sucked more than a motorized drinking straw. I have not read the other one.

By ending, do you mean the ending of the first book, or the ending of the whole trilogy?

The ending of the first book. It was so bad that it made me not want to waste my time or money on the other books.

    The Mortal Instruments series.
There's...three trilogies composing it, but only the main trilogy is finished: City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass. Amazing series, imo.

Is that anything like the His Dark Materials trilogy, or am I just wishfully thinking?

    Looking for Alaska

    PAPER TOWNS

Both by John Green, who along with his brother Hank make up the VlogBrothers (also, Nerdfighters was their doing). I really adored Alaska, and Paper Towns ahnwegfvefnrgvsehf sent me on a whirlwind of feelings.

You were better off that way, the third book was emotionally traumatizing.
I own City of Bones, but it was really difficult for me to read past the first few chapters. I've heard that they get better, so I guess I'll pick it up again.
These sound really cool, I'll probably get Paper Towns first, I've heard my English Teacher say that it's really good.

His Dark Materials actually didn't seem to have an Atheist message so much as a "Religion is evil" message.
