Wasn't it implied that they were just exceptionally powerful waterbenders? Considering how waterbending comes from the moon, they most logical explanation is that their family is somehow very in tune with the moon spirit. It's never explicitly mentioned, but it's the explanation that keeps all Airbender and Korra canon intact.

Actually it was implied that they were able to learn to bloodbend without the use of the moon through "Psychic" means. Which is completely ******ed in my opinion.

I maintain that it was forced. Amon's attitude basically did a full 180 with almost no provocation. He seemed to be a tenacious character with drive but the first setback had him changing his entire world view. I don't buy it. I could have seen it if there had been actual time and reason for it, but it wasn't enough. What you're called simply rushed, I'm going to call forced because they skipped too many steps in the process. That ending was a would have been good thing, not an actually was good thing.

What about the way Naga rescued Mako, Asami, and Bolin by bending the bars they were trapped in?

Expecting the whole bloodbending able to block bending to be explained in Season 2. At least, hoping. I've heard some pretty good explanations about it, having to do with blocking chakras and whatevs.

    That might actually make sense.

I mean, they had that portion of TLA that was dedicated to Aang's attempts to "master his chakras" and take control of the Avatar state. Blood blocking said chakras would probably cause enough damage to remove your bending ability.

Then again, this isn't Naruto, so we don't know just how chakras affect any ordinary bender as opposed to the Avatar him/herself.

The full moon does not allow you to bloodbend
the full moon puts a waterbender at his strongest
a waterbender at his strongest can bloodbend
Yakone is already as strong as the average waterbender at their strongest.

Speaking of season two, does anyone know about when it's going to come out? Probably next year, I assume, but other than that?

Or rather, as strong as any normal waterbender's strongest without the full moon. Now imagine Yakone with the full moon. I bet he could bend the entire ocean.

Well I'm not disputing that point at all, but I guess that contributes to your not liking the conclusion. I just split it into pieces. I always think of things like that, but especially anything to do with writing.

I can understand why people like to dissect works and look at pieces for how good they are in and of themselves though. It's a good way to understand that specific element and possibly make use of that understanding in the context of something else. It's just never my first reaction because I like to look at things as a whole and evaluate interconnectiveness and overall unity. It's like a computer program with a hundred working classes and thirty failing classes is still a broken program and needs to be repaired regardless of how well those hundred that are working are doing.

I enjoyed the final episode there immensely, but as stated before there were a few troublesome parts - namely, for me, the pacing (as Jiku described it, "forced") and also I feel very bad for Asami to be honest. But as for the characters we have an entire second season to wrap up things further. But my entire problem with that is the fact that this season conclusion appears to have wrapped up literally 98% of the things in the series and the second season would feel disjointed unless they are able to find a small thread end to tie things together again.

A few things. One, mainly, is that the connection to a second season could have been more fluid if Korra did not regain her bending in the end, or (as Sforzato discussed earlier) the ending was left vague enough to both be conclusive to the twelve episodes as if they were a series in itself (as was intended) or in the possibility that the twelve episodes would be one of two requested seasons (as has happened). Second, I personally found the entire backstory involving Tarrlok and Amon wonderful, with one problem. The pacing. The pacing, the pacing, the pacing. As Jiku stated earlier, everything felt rushed and forced and et cetera. We received a single exposition bomb near the end, really, and things could have gone out longer. (though I did appreciate the subtle hints and foreshadowing that was strewn through the previous episodes - that is definitely a positive point!) Essentially, my major qualm would be how everything had so much potential but seemed to be fairly stunted and squished in length. I do believe the first season would have been much stronger if it was not in fact only a "first season" and the entire Amon arc lasted the entire series. We do not necessarily have a character that can be concretely considered a major villain at the moment, except perhaps Sato, which I can definitely see being a major villain in the future as the Equalists rally around a powerful and influential non-bender and Republic City figure. If this is the case, I hope season two expands more upon (per Jube's concerns) Asami's character at the least, and hopefully the characters in general.

But for all it has been worth, the action scenes really were quite breathtaking, the emotional scenes certainly emotional, and the ending satisfying at least to an extent. I found the entire intertwined backstory of Tarrlok and Amon, and their relation to the notorious Yakone with Republic City's past to be very well written, putting aside the pacing. The backstory of these two brothers, whose fates had intertwined themselves with a city representing the future of the world, was in my opinion one of the best side-stories of the sort in the series, and Mike and Bryan did an excellent job giving hints and foreshadowing to this. Of course, though, the pacing near the end became too rapid and squished, and the exposition bomb could have been written better. If this story was drawn out more and given away through more subtle acknowledgement, it would have definitely been much stronger. Now I simply feel horrible for both of them.

Also, I feel horrible for Asami. So horrible. This series is one of the few where I have been averse to shipping because it seems so convoluted.

To be honest, I did indeed love the season finale despite its flaws, and I have high hopes for what season 2 will bring. I cannot really expand upon my critique at the moment because we do still technically have twelve more episodes left and Mike and Bryan have in my opinion been very talented writers for Korra so far (with the exception of pacing, of course).
