Welcome to Death

While being able to avoid the swipes of Jack the Ripper's claws, he wasn't able to fully avoid the killer grabbing onto his arm. The intention behind this attack was clear and this could work out in his favor. By quickly moving his head to the side, he was able to avoid a direct hit from the claw, but it still did graze him. "The only one going to die is you." In Jack the Ripper's last attack, not only did he pulled Zephyr closer in an attempt to kill him, but he also impaled himself onto Zephyr's sword. The blade dug deep as what would likely be a fatal blow onto the killer before Zephyr kicked him back.

 

"Less danger the better," Mikio mumbled under his breath as he looked around, following close to Matthew. "Left sounds good to me."

Zoey jumped back away from the casket. Her eyebrows furrowed as she stood in a defense stance and stretched out her hand towards her weapon. "Dana, time to get done with this place."

Staying near the back of the group, Hannah had just been following everyone else. She'd been really happy about getting the riddle right but now these choices were just 50:50 and down to luck. They had just as much chance at getting it right as she did and she might accidentally talk them down the wrong path if she joined in. One thought did cross her mind though, "Umm guys? I'm happy to go down whatever side you decide but do you think we'd be better off in weapon forms? I mean we have absolutely no idea what lies ahead and well, isn't it better if we are already in the form we can fight in? We can always change back if it's another riddle." She suggested this quite quietly, just hoping she hadn't just said something stupid or paranoid. She didn't think she had, it made sense to her but she still had that little doubt.

 

Blake nodded to Kuro as she suggested they head to the mission board. "Let's go on a mission shall we?" Blake and Kuro walked over to the mission board to see what was available to them. After careful debating, the two decided to take on the mission, Masquerade. "Alrighty then! We got a mission to complete!" Blake started to get pumped up for her first mission. She looked to Kuro awaiting for his reaction to signing up for their first mission.

"Well that's that then." Zephyr said sighing. For all the trouble that he'd given them with those damn riddles and the trail of corpses, they were able to beat him with little trouble. Excluding the cut on the side of his face, not that it was really much of a injury to begin with. "I guess this is the part where you eat the soul."

The reaction that Blake had gotten from Kuro was a simple thumbs up. No enthusiasm or any such thing, well that was outwardly shown anyway. On the inside he was curious about the mission that they had decided to go on. In contrast his partner was already starting to get pumped for it.

 

"Time to kick some royal ass. I hope you're ready, Mr undead pharaoh sir, because we are going to-" Dana started, confident as ever but being cut off mid sentence by a very thin, mouldy looking bandage wrapping itself around her ankle. "Aw shit" was all the girl got out before she got pulled off of her feet and began being dragged towards the casket before them. As she was being dragged, she rolled over in an attempt to get free, but to no avail. The grip on her ankle was pretty solid, getting away wouldn't be easy. She continued rolling around to try to get released, but that struggling stopped after a few moments as she got raised into the air before the pharaoh's casket, now hanging upside down by her ankle. For once, Dana was thankful for her relatively tight clothing, but she was very much not okay with what the pharaoh had done. Even after having died, it was clear that this ancient king was trying to check out his target before devouring her. The devouring was one thing, she'd done that with souls earlier after all and besides...she bet she tasted wonderful, but the checking her out without her permission? That was not on.

"HEY YOU PERVERT YOU PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW, AND QUIT TRYIN' TO LOOK UP MY SKIRT. I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS FOR THIS YOU ROYAL CREEP, ONCE I'M DONE WITH YOU YOU'LL WISH YOU WERE DEAD....AGAIN!" she exclaimed, clearly disturbed by the events unfolding. Clearing her throat, she attempted to sound as civil as she possibly could with her next statement. "Ahem, sorry about that Zoey. Sometimes being too pretty is a bad thing. Could you be a dear and help me down from here?" she asked, sounding like the kindest, most nicest ever person to ever live. That's right, she was speaking in a Canadian accent.


Chaol nodded in response to Hannah's suggestion. "Keeping left sounds like the most efficient way to do this, but I agree that while we do this we should very much be prepared for anything. A maze would be a good way to pick someone off that you don't want following you; just wait at the end and take them out, only one way in and only one way out. Being armed would be a good way to prevent this. If Hannah's okay with it, we'll take point. If not, then I guess you'll have to lead, Matthew" the assassin stated, taking a couple of steps forward and waiting for the decision to be made.​

Hannah shrugged, "Well I don't have an issue with it but surely it would be better if they took the lead. My logic is that they are much better than us in close combat, so in an instance that an enemy is immediately around the corner or waiting in ambush, they would be better at reacting. If we go around a corner and see an enemy a distance away then we should have time to go around the corner and shoot them before they reach us. Due to that I think we'd be better as support than leading. That is if everyone is okay with that?" Hannah asked, looking around. Both pairs had their own specialities so surely they needed to make best use of that? Since Chaol had also agreed to her previous suggestion, she quietly walked up to him, muttered "Catch me" and transformed.

 

"Alright, support it is" Chaol said as he caught Hannah. Now stepping to the back, he was at the rear of the group, bow in hand and ready to fire should the need arise. Taking point with a bow would've been a terrible idea if they'd been ambushed, he knew that, but leading in a situation like the one they were in was what he'd grown up being used to. He'd always been sent first, presumably to learn faster and to prove what he was capable of. Or at least, that's what he hoped...he hated even considering that maybe he'd been sent first because they'd considered him expendable. They were his family, they wouldn't do that though.​

 

The next thing that the duo did after listening to Spirit give them the run down of their mission was to meet up with Lord Death, who after giving them some words of encouragement, opened up a portal for them to use to arrive at New York City with. This would be the first time that he's even gone through the portal and hopefully nothing went wrong during so.

~One Portal Trip Later~

The portal had landed them inside the Empire State building, fortunately were no one could see them. There was supposed to be a limo waiting for them outside, least according to Lord Death, so that's would be the first thing they should look for. "Okay, think that the limo is already outside waiting for us."

The meister heard Dana scream and turned to her weapon. "Dana!" She was about to charge, only to be attacked by some bandages, hitting her in the arms and legs. She cringed and jumped back, going on the defense as she flipped on her hands and landed on her feet, crossing her arms across her in an x formation as she was hit again, almost in the face.

The girl panted as she regained herself, assessing the situation in the shadows and silvers she could see. Dana was hanging upside down by her ankle, the pharoh had a good hold of her with the bandages. If Dana could transform, Zoey figured she could (unless she was just being lazy, but she didn't seem to be enjoying what was happening one bit). And since Dana probably couldn't turn into her weapon, Zoey would have to fight to get her weapon back. She was so stupid! She should have told her partner to transform and stay in her weapon form. Next time. Now wasn't the time to think of that.

Zoey felt the breeze shift in the air and realized bandages in drill form were coming down on her. Zoey dodged rolled and ducked, using all of her senses she could to judged where the next blows would be, and how to get to her partner. She then grabbed on a bandage that had impaled into the ground, yanked it, and then felt it rip under her hand. Well, that was a good sign.

The bandaged drills came down again, and Zoey used them to jump up on them, making her way to Dana. She jumped and grabbed on the bandage holding Dana's ankle and yanking it as hard as she could to get her weapon freed.

Mikio blinked as he looked at the riddle. He scratched his head and then pressed his fingers under his nose, starring at it long and hard. He then titled his head to the side, trying to look at it upside down. He probably looked silly, especially with how tall he was, but he figured this had to do with direction and not math. Or longitude or latitude, otherwise there would probably be a map instead of a compass. "South?" he said quietly, reading what he found with those numbers, letters, and symbols upside down. "I could be wrong though..."​

 

Dana fell onto her butt on the floor with a thud, before getting up quickly. "Nice this mummy is waaaay more frail than we thought. How's about we go and finish this thing off now? A good whack on the head with an awesome weapon should do it, weeeeee" Dana said gleefully, before turning into her weapon form. Into the air she flung herself, spinning rapidly all anime-like, manipulating herself so it would be easiest for Zoey to catch her. She really, really hoped her meister caught her, it would be embarassing if she didn't. Kinda funny, and they'd probably laugh about it later, but still embarassing.



After Mikio made a suggestion about the answer, Chaol took note of the way the boy had tilted his head. Riddles were....well, they were horrible things to be sure, and try as he might Chaol always seemed to focus on the wrong part of it, so it was better left to those that could solve them. Tilting his own head, just as Mikio had done, the assassin looked at the riddle carefully. "No, I can see how you'd get south from it. May as well give it a shot, good job on this thing Mikio" Chaol complimented, before turning and looking at Matthew. "Lead the way, but be careful. Who knows how far away Bonnie and Clyde are? Could be around the next corner for all we know, best to keep on our toes" ​

Roderick blinked at the soul, hesitating for a moment. He'd known this was coming ever since he'd first discovered he was a weapon, but... this was his first soul. He had no idea what it would taste like. Reaching out, he took hold of it, bringing it to his mouth and biting into it like an apple. Strangely, the whole thing seemed to slide into his mouth, and he was able to swallow it whole.

The taste... He couldn't describe it; it didn't taste like any sort of food he'd ever had before, but it tasted... pretty good.

He offered a slight smile to Zephyr, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Well then," he said. "I guess, we're free to see the sights. Though, maybe we ought to go tell those girls they're safe now."

"Right, right, we can lead," Matthew said, nodding with a smile that was a bit more confident than he felt. Having practiced at school was all well and good, but he wasn't sure how well he'd do in a real fight.

But, you never knew until you tried, so he offered a smile to Mikio and held his hand out so the boy could transform, and then they could follow his plan and give South a shot.

"Agreed," Zoey replied to Dana. She turned just right and reached her hands out towards her weapon as she saw the familiar light blue soul come towards her in her other form. She felt the wood slide against her palms and wrapped her fingers around it, spinning the staff around to rip apart the bandages trying to snake around Zoey to catch her off guard. She felt the air shift as the bandages receded back, and took a wide defense stance.

Zoey could see a silver outline that strangely resembled a huge hammer hovering above her and gripped Dana tightly.

"Wrath of the Pharaoh!" A deep voice resided from within the coffin.

"Here we go." Zoey muttered under her breath.

The bandaged hammer came down and Zoey dodge-rolled out of the way. As she was dodging each hit, she could hear the Pharaoh chanting, "Wrath. Wrath. Wrath. Wrath."

On the fourth time the hammer came down, the bandages receded back into the coffin. Zoey saw an opening and calculated quickly what to do. She couldn't get close enough to the enemy because of the bandages that kept coming out, and Dana was kind of like a spear... So...

"Dana, get ready to fly. I'm going to throw you, stay in your weapon form." She raised her arm in the air and looked right at the red kishin egg that seemed to be emerging from the coffin at a gradual rate. "Ready..." Zoey pulled her arm back as far as she could. "GO!" Dana was flung in the air, spinning with a twist as Xara pushed her forward to impale the enemy right in the head.

Mikio saw the silent command from his partner and nodded his head. He vanished in a flash of white light, his body turning into the claw weapon in Matthew's dominate hand. The farther they went down this maze, the more dangerous it could be later on. He wanted to be ready in case something happened, and he figured his partner would too. ​

 

Facing straight towards the kishin egg and wondering how they were going to beat the pharaoh, Dana suddenly heard Zoey's idea. "Wait wait wait, what?" she asked, slightly confused. Being thrown like a spear, well it worked but...she was gonna get all icky stuff on her if she actually stabbed into something. However, before she could voice her thoughts she was in the air, thrown by her meister. If she went out of her weapon form the attack would surely fail, so her hands were tied. She had to take this seriously, to fail now would be a terrible start and would mean her family was right about her not being able to make it as a deathscythe. More importantly, it would make her wrong, and that was something she just could not allow to happen. After all, she had a reputation of never being wrong to uphold.

Sailing through the air, she guided herself around a few of the bandages, maneuvering out of the way of them gracefully, but just as she was nearing the pharaoh she was confronted by a few bandages netting together in a sort of wall. That wall was so f*cked though, it didn't stand a chance. There was no way the awesome duo of Dana Knightfall and Zoey Pryor was going to fail this, and there was no way she wasn't going to sink her teeth into that kishin soul. With a surge of strength inspired by the efforts of her friend and meister, Dana pierced straight through the wall of bandages and embedded herself in the head of her enemy.

Immediately, the bandages stopped waving around and simply fell to the ground, before vanishing altogether along with the pharaoh. Not all of the pharaoh had left though, for it had left behind its soul. Changing back to her human form, Dana landed neatly next to it, picked up the soul, and tossed it into the air. She managed a happy little twirl and give a thumbs up to her meister in an epic victory pose before simply tilting back her head and catching the soul in her mouth as her free hand pressed a button on the phone she'd managed to slip out, causing it to play a tune as the soul was swallowed.

Wiping her mouth with the sleeve of her clothing, she put the phone away (causing it to become a little muffled as she'd forgotten to stop it playing the music) and then went over to Zoey. "See, told you we could do it. Nice throw, you would've been awesome at sports. Hey do you think there's a team for the academy? We should start one. Oh oh, I bet Spirit will be our team's cheerleader!" the girl exclaimed, clearly very happy and excited about their victory.​

Zoey wrinkled her eyebrows in confusion when she heard the cellphone music coming from somewhere, only to be bombarded with questions and statements about sports. "Spirit? Er, I hear he's a bit creepy..." She smiled sheepishly and rolled her shoulder that was previously hit. "I'm glad it's over and done with... Now we can get out of here. Maybe we should practice a bit before going on the next mission..." The girl then remembered Dana's personality and smiled gently. "But first, let's get some ice cream. With chocolate fudge, sprinkles, and anything you want. I think we deserved it."

 

As Zoey finished speaking, Dana slowly turned to face her, her eyes glistening with sheer joy. "I-ice cream?" she stuttered, her voice a little quiet as though she were afraid of even speaking. When her meister didn't change her mind or otherwise retract the statement, the girl leaped forward with a scream of excitement and wrapped her arms around Zoey in a hug. "Ice cream ice cream ice creeeeeeeeeeeeam, you are the best meister ever" she exclaimed in a sing-song voice. The only thing better than ice cream was free ice cream, and obviously herself but she wasn't going to eat herself so that didn't count...although she figured she'd probably taste delicious. She had to be really careful at the academy, if there were any cannibals she would be in danger.

Later, after arriving back at the DWMA, Dana had found the nearest ice cream store and led Zoey there in a hurry. She hadn't visited the place for a whole three days, so her ice cream levels were dangerously low, but now she would be able to eat it at last. It probably wouldn't surprise anyone to know Dana had a real sweet tooth; if something had sugar in it, she simply had to have it. People often were shocked at how she kept such a gorgeous figure, or so she liked to think, but anytime she caught someone staring at her as she was eating something sweet she would always look at them, tilt her head slightly, give a nice warm smile before flipping them off and continuing to eat.

"I can't decide what flavour I want, Zoey. I want chocolate, but strawberry is soooo nice, but then there's caramel which is so smooth on the tongue, and like you can't forget banana, if monkeys go crazy over it then you know it's good" she explained logically, before screwing up her face in a look of pure concentration. Moments later, she opened her eyes and released a loud "I got it!" before beaming once more and giving her final decision: "I want cookies and cream!" she said, arriving at the line to actually get the ice cream. "Aw man, it's going to take forever to get this at this rate" ​
