nah, I've grown up in the last seven years and realized how incredibly ****** that thread is. I was chewed out for it and rightfully so. Apparently some others haven't.

The whole "n00b"/regular people thing is just a stupid power structure. Everyone starts out at that bottom and, later, call other people n00bs to solidify their power and hide their insecurity. It's a disgusting cycle of prejudice that the internet needs to real free from.

 

This. Calling people n00bs is just boring.

In all seriousness, I don't think n00biness has anything to do with time on the sight, as it does just Maturity in some cases, and knowing the community in others. I am quite obviously new to the site, but I feel welcome and right at home. I didn't have any trouble making posts or contributing to existing threads. And, while I do agree with Misty about the whole power structure deal...

I also believe that there are plenty of friendly people on this website that help the new kids feel welcome and that's a really good thing!

Below, I'm going to be honest, You didn't seem very welcoming at first, but after reading a few more of your posts across the site, I do appreciate your opinions, and I think your input is very constructive. That is one of the strongest aspects that you all have in my opinion. I have seen a miniscule amount of threads where people's posts were unhelpful, unconstructive, or just unfriendly in general. I know I probably do not speak for everyone when I say this, but I like what you guys are doing. I don't think you really need to change anything!

 

Not going to argue with the dumbness of the word n00bs, but it's clearly not true that every one starts at the bottom. I'd use myself as an example, but that's not fair because this is my second life, so I'll use SynK. SynK came out of nowhere with no background and is one of the most known and identifiable members here. His like-post ratio is tremendous and something to show that others have taken to him rather quickly because he posts with common sense and adds to the conversations. Helping out new members fit in with the ones who have created an identity here is good, in spirit. Calling people out for it is dumb, and making a thread like this or the one you posted way back when was dumb.

Still, there's some merit to the thought.

 

Granted, SynK has, iirc, experience on previous forums -- which, of course, makes it very easy to adapt and fit right into KHV with having been used to the online culture before and all. I think Misty meant more so people who first join up for a forum, or it's their first time on something like Tumblr or Reddit: they aren't acclumated to the culture and it takes time for them to reach "the top". While there are people who are very malleable and or are perfectly fit for forums and online culture in general from the go, essentially everyone on average does have to start from the bottom and work their way up.
