Capitalism is a brilliant idea; it allows people to compete with each other, resulting in technological (among other kinds of) advancements, and it complements human nature.

However, the way things are, the majority of people are working almost non-stop. This would be fine if they did this by choice in exchange for earning a lot of money, but society treats constant work as "the standard", and necesary for staying afloat. This seems normal for us, but the question I'm posing is, "why does it have to be considered normal?" Yes, it is in human nature to compete with one another, but what's the point if everyone is miserable while doing so? I feel that even though Capitalism is a good system, it needs some work.

I think that implementing some aspects of Communism may not be a bad idea. A lot of people automatically think "EVIL!" when they hear the word "Communism", but when you think about it, it's a good plan in theory. Yes, it's extremely flawed because the leader can easily abuse their power. However, Capitalism is almost as flawed. Some people are born extremely whealthy, and end up barely working at all, while recieving a lot of respect. Concurrently, others are born into poverty, and have to work their asses off just to survive, while being percieved as "lazy" because of their financial status. So, if you're a "Capitalism Thumper" (XD), try to be a bit open to new ideas.

My idea (I realize that there are plenty of problems with it, but it is just a rough sketch) is that people recieve a set amount of money each week which would be enough to keep them alive (but no where near happy). In addition to this money, people have the chance to persue whatever they want as a career. However, to compensate for the fixed amount all people are given, the taxes on pay checks would have to be higher. There should also be a maximum amount of money a person can earn, so that people don't end up with an excessive amount of money (I'm not sure what would be realistic, but probably a limit of $5 million dollars a year).

Do you agree that something needs to be done? Do you agree with/disagree with/have something to add to my idea? Do you have an idea of your own?

Capitalism being combined any other form of government would only maybe temporarily solve a few problems. They are both basically the same form of government, except our government could never back out as much as it would in a communistic society. The level of corruption would remain static, again.

Also if we received money to stay alive, it would probably be more ideal to say we shouldn't have to pay for utilities, power, etc., (the basic necessities of living), and that these things can be paid for directly by the government.

Capitalism is actually not that great of a system, for it forces everyone to work in order to pool in enough money in order to live. It is essentially slavery, for you have to work whether you want to or not, at a job you love or hate, for a pay you might or might not like. Economic slavery seems like the right term. But even at this level, it reduces the needs of people and their importance to a secondary level, instead making everything revolve around profit.

So when you have a system that 1) doesn't care much about people, 2) uses them by labor and 3) revolves almost completely around profit, you have to ask yourself: what the hell is wrong?

    That's my 2 cents. lol

Well there alwaysanachism because the government sucks at this point. Regardless of whether the better person get elected for president, we are still all going to eventually loose all money, show signs of weakness, and then either get invaded or bombed. That just my speculation.

Capitalism is the best we have at the moment. There are no other theories (or at least, none that I am currently aware of) which are practically viable applicable to human society.

Capitalism encourages competition and efficiency. It obviously is nowhere near perfect, but what with human beings involved ever is?

Well there is minimum wage and such things as budgeting, it's mainly a matter of desires, some people require a lot of money to be happy and others don't. Another reason why some people get paid very little for doing constant/endless labor is because it is usually unskilled labor. Any other skills which require a certain amount of knowledge or very specific study in X theory will be given more money for their services accordingly because they are, for lack of a better word, rare. Most minimum wage jobs like working a the local fast food joint is unskilled labor. The skills of a lawyer or a doctor or someone who can create demand for a product cannot compare to the person who does a rather simple task, it may be back-breaking but it is unfortunately not something that deserves much note. We also have enough people to do said unskilled labor, should we ever run out, machines could be used to take their place.

And some people are, believe it or not, happy with their unskilled labor and then there are those who loathe their unskilled labor jobs yet don't strive to get any higher on the money-earning chain despite their want of more money. Also you can't get rid of competition in a free-business arena, putting limits on something that typically has free-reign is pointless. For those who scam or otherwise use fraud though in their financial pursuits, well that's for the law to handle. :\

*If people received enough money to survive there is still a notable percentage of those who would slack off, especially if the government gives them a tangible form of the currency; people already abuse the welfare system as it is.

Communism totally doesn't work. Nor do I think capitalism alone works. Both have ways of not watching out for people though in opposite ways and both can lead to corruption. Any system in place will run the risks of corruption because people will always need to be in power and it just depends on who is going to be in charge. I suppose if I have to choose between outright communism and capitalism I will lean more towards capitalism though I do believe that the best system would be a sort of combination of both so that people are assisted who need it and corporations do not become too powerful so that they can be regarded as technically their own nations. We have problems with this now in some regards and do need to pay attention to it before we are utterly dominated by greedy people. However, again, there will be corruption in whatever system is adopted so it is important to basically be involved in and see what our governments are doing with our money. So many people seem jaded and it's let some others get away with murder, literally.
