He did well with Watchmen...though to be honest he did so mostly by sticking with what happened in the graphic novel.

Wish he stayed faithful and kept the squid. That was actually rather important to the story and the ending.

I actually was glad that he switched the squid out. To me, the film's ending made a lot more sense and tied the plot up better. What did you like about the squid ending, since I'm curious now?

I just think it makes more sense as a plan to usher in an era of peace then framing Dr. Manhattan.

The way I saw it, it was simply much more believable for the attack to be by Dr. Manhattan's hand than an alien especially considering that he was a huge factor in the nuclear arms race.

I honestly am not surprised by this. Marvel made an Avenger's film, and I would have been surprised if this didn't get made some time in the future. But more than justice league, I'm be interested in seeing a Shazam film. I liked Shazam/Superman film, even though Shazam only had like 40 minutes, but having a full film about him would be pretty decent.

The problem here is that from the moment Dr. Manhattan is introduced in the story, he is shown as being the pawn of the United States government. Doing the bidding of president Nixon in the name of the Stars and Stripes. He even wins the Vietnam War for the US. Would the world really believe that Dr. Manhattan is a universal threat to the world and cause them to cease hostilities against each other? Russia didn’t really trust the US back in 1985, so why would they believe Dr. Manhattan went rogue after years of faithful service to Uncle Sam? If anything, Dr. Manhattan’s "attack" would either escalate the Cold War or start World War III.

But let's assume this plan works, it won't last forever. You can't just force people to get along. Sure let's say the world believes Dr. Manhattan did this to stop the possibility of all out nuclear war, that's not exactly going to stop the world from warring with each other without nuclear bombs. In fact things would get progressively worse without the threat of nuclear attack.

Where as a "threat" that is alien in nature and scary as hell could believably make humanity stop warring with each other as they are faced with a new and menacing extraterrestrial enemy. Hell the original ending works much better then the movie's because no one expects an alien to suddenly (and violently) enter our world, killing millions, and create a psychic shockwave from its death that cause's psychics the world over to lose their collective minds. Plus Adrian managed to hide his tracks, where as the movie's ending you could probably trace it back to him. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that the world's smartest man managed to come up with a way to simulate an attack from Dr. Manhattan.

Plus, look at the opening pages of the last chapter compared to what the movie shows us of the aftermath (i.e. complete and utter carnage of bloodied and battered bodies that are everywhere with various secondary/background characters being among the dead vs. a hole in the ground). It just holds more weight.

Because the point of the squid was that it was so out of place and impossible that you just HAD to believe it
What other explanation could there be for an alien squid to teleport into Time Square and use its psychic waves to mind rape thousands and cause people's head to explode?
In a book that took its time to deconstruct the cape hero genre and highlight the inherit problems that come with real life "superheroes" the one thing that manage to change the entire world in a flash is quite literally straight out of a comic book.

    Yes, it is?

    Shazam movie? Alright!
Metal Man? Didn't expect that, but okay!
Not set in the DCCU? Well, why not? I'm just being selfish, but still. I want my expanded universe so I can spend more money.

No it is not. It is Captain Marvel. It has always been Captain Marvel. His comic book is called Shazam because of copyright issues with the company Marvel. I know this because out of all the stupid comic book trivia that I've seen, this is the one that I've devoted to memory specifically to correct people on it.

Actually, no. It had always been Captain Marvel. The character was officially renamed Shazam in 2012.

Oh. Well that was really stupid decision on DC's part.

Not really. Captain Marvel did have a ring to it, especially as something a kid would like to be called, but there's no real reason (at least to me) for him to have that name. Shazam actually fits where and who gets his powers from. I don't think it was a stupid decision at all.

I'm not overly familiar, but doesn't that get confusing since the person who gave him his powers also named Shazam, and he also has to say Shazam to use his powers?

Kind of. The wizard is simply called the Wizard now. I'm pretty sure he mentioned that "Shazam" was his original name, but I may be wrong about that. On top of that, it's changed so he has to say "Shazam!" and mean it. So he has to want to transform.

    or something.
