Wartime Reverie

"Maybe, sounds like a big job," Allen said, "and it's not like I have any field experience. But I'll do what I can. Just one question though; are these dark beings anything like the creatures that attacked the academy?"

 

"No." Legion responded quickly "They are nothing like the creatures you already fought. They are... weaker, I suppose. Still numerous enough to cause problems though. They attack with efficiency and cause havoc all over the planet. The planet is filled with a race of technologically advanced people compared to the people on your planet. Though they have never fought anything like this until recently. This darkness just sprung up a few weeks ago. Now I'm not worried about you fighting the dark beings, you should be able to take them easily. It's the person who's controlling them who might be too powerful. However, there will also be others there that will fight along with you. Use their strength to aid you in your missions. Understood?"

 

" Oh uh you are not going to believe this but the strange man we met made us part of this time he had picked to maintain the balance of light and dark... after that he told us a little about himself about being a Libra or something..." Shero said eagerly trying to tell him as many details as she could possibly remember.

" He dwells in the powers of darkness and because of it hes hardly a man anymore... the darkness has warped him and hes become a bloodthirsty monster... I just didn't know that he knew Master Westus... I thought my brother had run off and disappeared for seven long years... i didn't expect to see him again..." Phisoxa said with a soft sigh as she reached into her bag and pulled out the journal, letting it rest on her lap as she thought.

 

"Yep. Anything else you want to tell me? Or should I get going?" Allen wanted to know who it was controlling the creatures, and he didn't know how he wasn't sure how to find the source of the darkness. But he was getting used to Legion not answering his questions and didn't feel like wasting his breath at the moment.

 

Nny realized that he had made a mistake in his wording. When he talked about the library he meant the library in which he kissed Shero, but Shero thought he was talking about the library she went to. Nny absorbed the information, regardless, and then corrected himself. "No, I meant the academy's library..." Nny waited for the incident to sink into Shero's mind again.

"My, I'm so sorry." Dr. Traken said, giving his condolences. He then noticed her pull out the journal and couldn't help but get a little curious. "If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is that?"

"Uh... no, that's about it. Oh! One more thing. I am not sure who is controlling these dark beings, but I'm entrusting you to get it done. Find him and stop him before things get worse." said Legion. He then flicked his fingers and the portal that transported both Love and Shero changed colors. "Now you must go through that portal and you will land on the other side. You should arrive near civilization, so you should be fine when you enter through."

 

Shero's eyes widened , feeling slightly embarrassed that she had spoken about the wrong library. " Oh that library.... Uh yes I remember what happened..." Shero said blushing when she remembered what had happened then.

Phisoxa opened the journal up and began to flip through the pages. " oh uh... its my Master's journal, he gave it to me a little while before he was killed.."

 

Allen almost left, then stopped as he realized he'd forgotten something. "How do I get back here when I'm done?"

 

Nny saw the blush as a sign of... something. Was it embarrassment or love that lightened those cheeks? Nny couldn't tell. But he tried to prode her a little more, trying to find out if he had lit anything up. "Well, did you enjoy it?" he asked her, very bluntly.

Dr. Traken's eyes widened. "My, he entrusted that to you? He must have thought very highly of you? Any useful information so far?"

"Don't worry about it." Legion said. "I will be watching you. When you succeed, I will be there to bring you back."

 

" Well currently everything is unfamiliar to me but I'm getting the hang of it... " Phisoxa said with a smile as she stared into the journal, glowing at it's glowing pages, but to him it would appear to be a normal book with strange runes in it instead of text.

" Well its hard to decide how I feel about it after all it caught me off guard .." Shero said with a sigh.

 

The remaining students boarded the transport the front door closed and the transport headed to the airship. The students were escorted off the transport and threw the ship until they reached a massive dinning hall "Please take a seat, eat up I am sure you are all exhausted" the officer said as the students entered the hall.

 

Nny didn't get up, deciding to find out once and for all what Shero thought about him.

Dr. Traken got up and began walking towards the dinning hall. The doctor looked back at Phisoxa and said "Come, child. Let us eat. You may read your book more there."

Nny then looked her in the eyes and asked another striaght forward question "Do you want me to kiss you again?"

 

"Alright." Allen walked to the door. Then stopped and looked up at the stars through the glass ceiling, trying to see the planet he would be going to. He opened the door and stepped through.

Allen felt a spinning, falling sensation once he stepped through the door. All around him were swirling colors and the streaks of stars moving about faster than his eyes could register. All distorted by the vortex he was in.

He didn't remember leaving the vortex. The next thing he knew he was waking up in a barren land. The only signs of life he could see around him were sinister, dead looking trees, and some monsters off in the distance. There were also pools of darkness in several places across the wasteland. The whole world seemed to be draped in shadows, as if no sun could reach it. He looked up at the sky and saw only what looked like dark clouds, covering everything.

Allen stood up. "I didn't expect this world would already be lost to the darkness by the time I got here. Oh well, time to get to work. Legion said I should land near civilization, so I guess I'll start my investigation there. But which way will I find it?" He looked around the area and was attacked by a monster, which he easily dispatched. "Not very tough are they." Then he had an idea. "Maybe I could follow some of the monsters. He said they attack efficiently, and they sounded pretty aggressive, so if I follow a group of them they should lead me to the nearest civilization soon enough. The trick i just going to be not getting caught on the way." He looked around and hid by a nearby rock formation. Now he just had to wait.

After a short wait a large group of the monsters came by him. "That's my cue," he thought. As soon as he was sure they wouldn't see him he came out of hiding and began following them at a safe distance. It was only a matter of time until he came to civilization.

 

" They are rescuing us and feeding us... I feel sort of iffy about this whole thing.." Phisoxa said a little hesitant to step into the dining hall as she followed Traken, carrying the book in tow.

Shero blushed madly unsure on what to say. " Well I don't know.... I barely know you and I..."

 

The creatures could sense a presence and immediatly went after Allen himself. The creatures started their attack with some odd moves. They extended their arms to smack him from afar. As they got closer, they all circled him, making sure he wouldn't escape. The dark figures looked like people but moved and acted like mindless creatures. They attacked whenever there was a spot open or whenever they all attacked at once. It was insane how coordinated these monsters were. And more were appearing from the ground.

 

Before Shero could continue one of the guards hit Nny across the back of the head, it wasn't a hard hit but enough to get his attention "We need this transport, group with your fellows in the hall" the Soldier said.

"No need to worry" the Officer said to Phisoxa "You are a guest here, and until you our out of our care we will treat you one of our own"

 

Nny became frustrated by his luck and then decided to leave. He stayed silent, not talking to Shero anymore. It was obvious that he wasn't getting anywhere. He would try his luck another time.

 

Shero was surprised by the sudden interference from the guard. " Oh I'm so sorry for holding everyone up with my useless bickering.." Shero said apologetically as Phisoxa called out Shero's name. " I'm coming Phisoxa..." Shero called back to her as she then hurried off to Phisoxa's side. " I wonder do we seat ourselves or is custom that we be shown to our seats?" Phisoxa said stopping in front of the large dining room table. " Why would you wonder that Phisoxa? " Shero asked as Phisoxa chuckled. " I don't know... manners have always been nagging at me eversince I was a child.... when I was young my mother would tie me to chair to make sure I sat and dined properly and if I got it wrong she'd whack my hand with a ruler..." Phisoxa said with a chuckle as Shero's eyes widened." Yikes..."

 

Allen was shocked at how easily the creatures had detected him. He summoned his sword, after killing the first one he was sure this would be an easy fight, and he was ready to defeat them all quickly. Instead though he decided to use this as an opportunity to study the beasts. He assumed a defensive stance and began dodging and deflecting their attacks, studying how they moved and their preferred methods of attack. It would have been easy if there weren't so many of them. But their coordination and numbers forced him to stay on his toes, but with an effort he was able to remain unharmed. He could see however that more were coming and that he couldn't keep this up forever, one misstep or lapse in attention, one unlucky instant, could easily leave him maimed. He was playing a dangerous game and he knew it.

After a few seconds like this, far less time than he would've liked, he leaped into the air and shined a light down over the creatures. This was not an offensive move, any normal being would've been completely unharmed by the light, after all he was just illuminating the area. He wanted to see how the monsters reacted to the light though.

 

"Without any nobility here feel free to sit where you please" The officer said leaving as the final students arrived, the doors closing behind him.

The creatures cried out in pain and anguish, however after a few seconds, the creatures continued their attack by jumping after him. The light only halted them for a few seconds.

Suddenly a blast came out of nowhere and maybe five of the creatures were slain. "light does not harm them like you think it would!" said a voice. A man suddenly appeared from the sky. "You must fight them like a common enemy and eventually they will fall. They attack phycologically. They are attempting to make you think the situation is hopeless. You haven't started hearing voices yet have you?" the man asked Allen.
