Wartime Reverie

"You've got some explaining to do." Allen rubbed his eyes, from equal parts stress and tiredness. "First off, what's a Libra?"

 

Mixt started to panic. He had not moved nearly fast enough to gather information about the attack from the source and now the battle seemed to be drawing to a close. Unfortunately that meant a large portion of the hoard was dedicated to killing him. And furthermore the creatures continued adapting until finally Mixt seemed unable to land a hit anywhere. For the time being he found that being aggressive kept them dodging and blocking, but he knew that wouldn't work much longer. He needed a way out,

Mixt took a few deep, but forceful breaths before sweeping the blades around him in a spinning maneuver. As he did so a vortex started to swirl around him, making a wall of wind to keep the creatures at bay. Mixt only had enough discipline in magic to keep it up for a few seconds, even in his adrenaline addled state, but that was all he needed. Mixt slashed at the ground with his swords, using the ring of wind around him as the outside of a transmutation circle. With a slam of his foot the circle activated and sent the ground beneath him upwards to form a pillar. Exhausted from the intense fighting and perhaps the most powerful spell he's ever casted, Mixt collapsed. He prayed that his creation would hold long enough while he watched his swords tumble down to the ground and his vision blurred to black.

 

Shero looked out through the glass ceiling and marveled at the stars. " Wow it's so pretty !!! This reminds me of the starry skies you can see back at home..." Shero complimented as she walked further into the library. Phisoxa seemed to be just as in awe as Shero was but she wasn't as expressive about it. " Yes it is beautiful..." Phisoxa said in a soft voice as she looked up at the sight before her. Reflections of the blue glow given off by celestial clouds painted mirror of her eye, she didn't notice it but small star shaped flecks in her eyes began to give off a soft turquoise glow as if being this close to the stars caused a reaction in Phisoxa. Phisoxa seemed to be lost in her own world so she didn't speak much as for Shero she picked up on the conversation Legion and Allen were having. " What is a Libra?" Shero questioned.

 

Legion turned to Allen who first posed the question and then turned to Shero who also asked. Legion then turned around to look at a book shelf, pulled out a book and opened it. He then began saying "A libra is a person who is affliated with the Libras. And the Libras were once a massive group of individuals who were deemed worthy to know everything that goes on in the universe for the sole purpose of keeping everything balanced." Legion closed the book, put it back in its spot, and turned around to face the others. "However, there is no group anymore, instead there is just me..."

Legion paused for a moment and took a couple breaths. "Long ago, the organization of Libras became too lenient with who could be considered as qualified for the job of a Libra. Family members were welcomed. Some shady people as well. Then there was an uprising. Some people wanted to, instead of balancing the universe, entirelly eliminate one side. They wanted to eliminate the darkness in the universe. While I can personally understand why they would want to do that, they didn't understand as I did, that Light and Darkness must exist in order for there to be any future for life. Without one, the other dies out. Darkness needs light and light needs darkness. That's why in all of history you never see one without the other." Legion took a breath and then got back on the topic of Libras "Regardless, those who wanted to destroy the darkness once and for all came into conflict with those who wanted to simply keep things balanced, and a war broke out. Many were slain and only a handful of us were left. After what they had seen, the ones who survived refused to be Libras anymore and decided they would rather live out their mortality." Legion looked up through his ceiling into space. "I was left as the only Libra and have been keeping the universe balanced by myself. And will continue to do so... forever..."

 

" Ah..... I had no idea something like that had taken place.... do you ever feel alone?" Shero said looking saddened in response to the story he had just told her. Suddenly Phisoxa's mythology book jumped out of her bag on it's own and glowed a soft blue, the sight of it had snapped Phisoxa out of her trance and she threw a glance over at the book that was lying on the ground. "What the..."

 

"Hell no." Legion said quickly. "All those guys were jerks. They had a whole war and everything! I think I'm best off being a solo act and I enjoy it that way." Legion then coughed and then said "But... I do need help. The universe has not been balanced for maybe a year now. And I haven't been able to figure out why. I can feel when the universe is off balance, like a sixth sense. But I have to root out the causes myself. I figured out that a mysterious darkness has emerged and begun its riegn of terror over the universe, and I need the help of many people. Starting with you three."

 

" So you need our help? How can junior students like us help restore the balance? We aren't that special..." Shero said looking concerned as Phisoxa walked over to her book and picked it up while sitting down the carpet. She opened the book and flipped through the pages which now had a holographic appearance to them.

 

Legion smiled and took a second before responding. "Ah ha! But that's just it! You are special! You just don't know it yet!" Legion said. He then looked to Phisoxa who was oddly silent compared to their last encounter. "Have you stumbled on something Phisoxa?" Then suddenly Legion noticed the holographic image. "Oh, it seems you have." Legion then looked at his watch "And right on time."

 

Phisoxa flipped through the book's holographic pages and then closed it, it's pages still giving off a glow while the book was shut. She turned and looked at Legion ,wondering if he knew what was going on. " What ? Do you know something about this? A moment ago it was just a textbook . . ."

 

"Hmm..." Legion walked down to her and then comtimplated on whether to tell her the truth or let her figure it out by herself. Eventually Legion came to a resolution. "Ah, okay, not much harm will come out of me telling you. That is Master Westus's journal. Hidden in the form of a Mythology textbook." He looked at Phisoxa smiling. He then paused for a moment before pointing at the book. "Well? Go ahead and read it."

 

" So this is the journal my brother was trying tr murder me for earlier.... I had no idea this even existed...." Phisoxa said with a soft sigh as she opened the book back up and reading the index. " Time travel?... Divine gates? ... rebirth . ..?" Phisoxa said stopping partway while reading through the index. " If Westus wrote this he must have been crazy... it can't be real can it?"

 

As soon as Phisoxa finished her statement, Legion let out a laugh that quickly turned into a muffled laugh as he held onto his mouth with his own two hands. Then he let go of his mouth and started straight up in the air. He continued to laugh this way for about 30 seconds before looking at Phisoxa's seriousness and stopping. "Oh... You're serious?" Legion tried to recompose himself "Well uh, yes... haha... All those things are possible."

 

Phisoxa had annoyed look on her face after he finished laughing. " Are you done laughing yet?" Phisoxa said with a strained sigh as she set the book down on her lap. " I never knew it was possible.. when I asked my master about them he always got all weird and quiet..." Phisoxa said as Shero walked over and looked over Phisoxa's shoulder.

 

"Welp, he trusted his journal unto you, Phisoxa." said Legion putting his hand on her shoulder. "It's up to you now to study it and learn it." Legion then took his hand off of her and began to walk away. "There are some chairs in here, feel free to sit down and read. I think I will look up "The Art of War"..."

 

" I will study it in honor of Westus... atleast his pupil can carry on his wisdom and use it to bring balance to this world.." Phisoxa said picking the book up and walking over to a table where she sat down in a chair and opened the book up and began studying.

 

"Sun Tzu huh?" Allen said to Legion as he was walking off. "So I guess this library has every book ever written right? Maybe you could show me around before you read 'the
art of War' that way I can find books myself. And Phisoxa I'd like a look at that journal when you're done with it, if you don't mind. It might have some useful information."

 

Legion smiled and said "I would be happy to show you around. However, Phisoxa's book won't work for you. Unfortunatly for you, Allen, Westus put a seal on it to keep everyone but Phisoxa and himself from reading it." Legion began walking around the library before he turned back to Allen and asked "Are you coming?"

 

Allen was disappointed he couldn't read the journal. He started after Legion, "of course I am. Wouldn't be much point to you just showing yourself around, Would there? And who knows? Maybe I'll find a book that'll tell me how to undo the seal on that journal."

 

Legion laughed as he walked showing Allen the library. "That's very doubtful Allen, and that's because it's a special incantation Westus put on the book. I don't even know what it is exactly." Legion showed him all the books he had collected over the years and explained to Allen that in order to be a Libra, one must read books on a daily basis to broaden the mind and sharpen skills.

 

Allen listened with intent to what Legion was telling him, and did his best to learn his way around the library. He had been up for a long time now though and he was growing tired. When the tour ended he yawned and said, "I don't mean to be rude but do you have any beds in this place? I've been up a while now and I could really use a few hours' sleep."
