There are plenty of War of the World Movies out there, but only 2 of them have been made within these past recent years, War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise and H. G. Well's War of the Worlds. Which do you guys think is the better one? I personally perfer the plain War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. It's got a lot of slow parts, but the suspense is really good. That's all it takes to make me interested in a movie. Good suspense and a great way to end that suspense only to make even more suspense

Well, at this point, you're kind of comparing apples to oranges, in some sense. And in another sense, you're also comparing an original to what is essentially an adaptation.

The H.G. Wells War of the Worlds was a novel written in 1898. The War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise was a movie from well over 100 years after that fact. I never really enjoyed the film rendition with Tom Cruise though; I prefer the 1953 film adaptation above the one with Tom Cruise. I've never read the novel itself, but when it comes down to it, I'd have to say that I value the novel above the Tom Cruise movie. After all, the movie WAS based on the novel.

Ah. That explains it. Just looked into that, and I've never seen the other two. I never even realized any more were made. Still, I only minutely enjoyed the movie with Cruise. If I had to pick any film adaptation, I would, in a heartbeat, say that the 1953 one is my favorite of the lot.

I could not watch a movie that was made in 1953. Old movies like that just hurt to watch. Actually, they made a War of the Worlds 2, a sequal to the H.G. Well's War of the Worlds. I was so excited, but it bombed. It was like trying to make a filler arc for an anime show but it was completely pointless. Either way, I can respect your decision, to each his own after all

I enjoy it more so out of it's science fiction value than anything else.

I liked the Tom Cruise movie but I found it to be too different to the original. It may be because I went to see the Musical live and fell in love with it after seeing it on stage, I therefore had high expectations.

I have seen no other War of the worlds film apart from the Tom Cruise one (and one made in the 1950's but that wasn't very good) so I would have to say I prefer the musical as that's all I have to compare it to. It is the original story after all. Saying that, there is one part of the film that has stuck in my mind all these years, it's the part where he breaks into someones house after it was abandoned and made his children a sandwich to which they rejected so he threw it at the window- that made me laugh a lot. Apart from that I don't remember much, it's been a few years since I last saw it, it was a good movie though.

I thought Tom Cruises's version was pretty good, but then again I haven't watched the other versions to make a fair comparison.

it's probably the only War of the Worlds film I could give you a step-by-step description of the story. I can usually do that for all the good movies I enjoy
