You mean to tell me that the guy playing Malekith in Thor 2 was one of the guys who was in Doctor Who? I'm admittedly a little put off now.
The thing is, I can't. I don't like the idea of this internet craze encroaching on my experience with the movie. I guarantee you the whole time he's on screen DW and its fans are going to be on my mind, and I don't like that. Thanks a lot, internet. And btw I'm not a fan of Thor so it's not like I have a stake in this movie or anything, it's just annoying.
And I want to emphasize, my complaint has nothing to do with the actor. I'm sure he's great. My problem is with how big DW is, and how distracting that detail is going to be while watching the movie.
Regardless, you must realize it's primarily a personal hangup. Unless it's apparent that it was a popularity casting, and even then you never know.
Ah, well that's understandable. I absolutely hate when I recognize actors in movies or on TV because it makes the whole thing less believable. I can't watch Iron Man without thinking, "That's not Tony Stark, that's Robert Downey Junior," the whole time. I used to kind of enjoy NTSF: SD: SUV, but then I recognized Karen Gillan's character as Karen Gillan, which ruined the experience of it being a mediocre spy comedy that is believably set its own world. Now it's just a mediocre spy comedy featuring one of the two British actresses that I can name. It's why I prefer animation to live action.
If it's any consolation, Eccleston is pretty overlooked & underloved in the Doctor Who fandom. Also, I can barely tell it's him in that costume lol.
Well, then is it the craze encroaching on your experience or your own reluctance to coexist with it that's really eating you? Thas all I'm getting at.
Yeah I never would have known if I hadn't read it. The craze. Like I said. What the **** are you talking about reluctance to coexist? I'm not storming the forums demanding immediate eradication of all things Who, I'm saying seeing him on screen is going to remind me of something I'm not a fan of. How do you extrapolate something so extreme from that? and btw guys, "not a fan" =/= complete distaste for. I'm not a fan of football but that doesn't mean I have this vehement hatred for it.
And I think that's kind of sad. Darian Rennter gets all the credit for being the best of the new Doctors because he's the most iconic and even though he had more "cool/funny/cute/brilliant moments," Eccleston's "moments" are so much better than his, and not just because of their relative scarcity. rant over
