I feel that everyone should have a say in some of the decisions made
like, if a repeditive flamer is giving too much trouble we should vote on the
    punishment.

that does sound logical, as it may determine who gets banned and who gets saved... but seriously if they are annoying too many people and yet people are voting to save him/her then the admin should take charge and punish them either way

    Well, No.

Voting would be unfair on decisions such as whether or not to ban a member because
    a) Us members don't know the entire story. There's a lot of things that we don't know and/or understand that the staff does about certain people.
    b) It would turn into a popularity contest. Members who had lots of friends would be able to break the rules and not get banned because everybody would not want them banned simply because they would be friends.

....which would end in the site falling apart and rules being broken all the time.

It isn't so much a fact of whether they get punished of not but how they get punished. The people would vote for the punishment.Make sure all the punishments are equally as bad but not the same.Depending on how bad the person is will have equally bad punishments.I do understand where are coming from though.By the way i was using that members thing as an example.Even if we wouldn't be allowed do that we could vote on various other things.

i actually suggested this before but the answer is no. i guess the staff should be trusted to make the descisions. it would be stupid if everyone voted no to ban some flamer that deserved to be banned.

You can only punish members in a few different ways; Verbal warnin', Infraction, temp ban and perma ban. I''m sure the staff can choose fairly between one of those. Besides, if members were to be given a say in thing's like punishment, it would become a game to see others punished, and quite frankly, arguments would happen.

So, no. It's a staff job.

IT would seem logical, but that's why we have staff, to make sure stuff like this is handled in a controlled way.
Besides if it were to be up to us to vote the 'punishment', I can forsee this becoming a huge flame war down the road if one person feels as though they were overly punished because members didn't like them.

    Destined votes no.

There's a reason why there's staff. They do all the stuff that keeps this site running.

Not to mention that we'd probably argue with each other about punishments.
The system's worked this long without major problems, so if it works, why fix it?

Wolfie also says no to this idea.

    What do you mean by that? O_o;;

I hate to say it but a democracy with members etc doesn't really work on a forums. This is what the staff is for. The staff can ban someone who needs it. If there's a problem with someone being banned, you pm one of the staff and discuss it. It really doesn't seem any of our business who is banned as a whole and our interference would make it seem more of a gladiator fight than actual 'justice' in any way. All of us do not know each person that comes here so what are we going to care unless we actually do know the person?

There are a lot of members so this would just be impossible to implement and I think it's fine as it is. We depend on staff to do their jobs and if there's an issue, it should be taken up with them to present your side. Most are pretty fair about it and would deal with it as quick as possible, whatever the problem is that would require a group decision. Also, who wants to really be bothered with a vote on kicking someone off or keeping them on the board etc except for those who like drama? And lastly, that is very humiliating to any people who would be set to be 'judged'. This way is much more quiet and this doesn't protect the people who make the choices. It protects the people on the side of getting a choice made about them.

I really can't see a need for a vote ever but perhaps for some things like maybe 'should we have another skin for the board' or cosmetic things like that which affect us all. Otherwise it really is none of our businesses and if you feel it is, pm those who make the choices.

Right, voting on things like skins isn't bad. We do that all the time.
But punishments for members you may not even know? That's rather harsh, don't you think? And as others have said, there's stuff that goes on that we don't know about. That's why we have Private Messaging.

We can't judge each other based on what we've done. Everyone makes mistakes, but still, a public voting on whether someone should be banned or not just isn't right. Even in courts it's not a public desicion if someone goes to jail.

WEll that's why we have staff. To moderate the site and to create decent punishments for members. I was IP banned and banned for 6 months. A fair punishment.

It's the staff's desicion. not ours.

    Wat exactly are IMPORTANT issues...

If it's about banning a member and such, then no.

If it's about some kind of forum remodeling or something then...I guess so...

No because it's not our problem to deal with. AKA Staff is here to help. Yes, people might think some of the punishments are harsh but it's what they think is best for the member not to do it again.
